  • In July, Iceland Review reporters Alina and Art headed on a 9-day journey into the most remote wilderness in Iceland. Among arctic foxes, lush flower fields and leftover snow caps, a group of strangers make their way through Hornstrandir Nature Reserve to embark on a unique adventure: to attend the most remote film festival in the world!
Hornstrandir is incredibly protected since human settlements were abandoned in the 1950s. There is no cellphone service or electricity, large travel groups are not allowed to gather, and running toilets can be counted on one hand. But we do enjoy a challenge, so we tagged along the Hornstrandir Film Festival (HFF) and documented our journey of a lifetime!
This is the first video of our Hornstrandir series. Stay tuned for more videos from our adventure in Hornstrandir!

What a privilege to get to visit Hornstrandir with none other than the inspirational Bjarney from Roll Around Iceland!!!
This teaser highlights some unknowns we hope will be revealed in your follow ups, incl the mysterious hilltop ruins (monastery?) and whether we’re witnessing a unique Icelandic yoga class or a much older meditative tradition unique to Hornstrandir.

The ruins are actually from an abandoned US radar station on Straumnesfjall mountain! We have an extra video coming out just about that 👀

Maybe for the people of Hornstrandir it was the others who were strange? 😉
