Diana Ankudinova’s cover of the Elvis Presley classic Can't Help Falling In Love, clearly demonstrates Diana Ankudinova has developed into what many vocal professionals are saying is a true contralto voice type. Again, for those that don’t know a contralto is the lowest kind of female voice, and a true contralto is very, very rare. Now, a female's vocal range helps define her voice type, and in 2017, at the age of 13, her vocal range was measured from a low of D3 to a high of A5, which is in the male tenor range. Diana has said she was not happy with her lack of a higher vocal range, which kept her out of the more prestigious music academies. Diana, along with her vocal teacher decided to concentrate extensively on developing her higher vocal range. A typical soprano range by the way is B3 to C6 so even with the Bb5 she is well in to the soprano range easily and she has hit that c6 on multiple occasions.
Diana's voice (shockingly unique), is just the tip of the iceberg. I’ve never seen another performer that crushes virtually every mode of expression like she does. What I like most about Diana is how she overcame a rather tough start to life. Her birth mother was physically abusive and finally abandoned her in the street, in the middle of winter, at the age of 3. She ended up in an orphanage and would eventually suffer from nightmares, a nervous breakdown, and lingering speech problems. Her adoptive mother started Diana on singing lessons as one method of hopefully improving her verbal abilities. Despite all that she is now, by all accounts, a remarkably intelligent, poised, and humble young lady. To me, she is bravery, perseverance, and soul power personified. I get emotional just watching her, knowing how far she has come, never mind the otherworldly voice. By far, my favorite singer in the world. And yeah, her tessitura is crazy for a contralto but it’s that thunderous, rich, dark, resonant timbre that stands out for me. She’s a witch, enchantress, siren, sorceress... they all apply. I wish her all the best in this world. The gentleman who stood up is the well known Azerbaijani opera singer Yusif Eyvanov. He is married to the world class Russian soprano Anna Netrebko. Together they are opera royalty. Presumably, he would not be easy to impress. Both he and other members of the jury remarked at the amount of pure energy Diana was emitting. Just to clarify, this show called "ShowMaskGoOn, was not a talent competition, rather a singing show where nine singers, including Diana, were invited to sing songs in nine different genres over the nine week run of the show. When not performing, Diana sat in the stand with the others. After each performance, the other singers (along with a different weekly guest) critiqued and marked each other. "Rechenka" as a 14 year old is a must see, and fun fact she is one hell of a yodeler....she is 17/18/19 yo now, be sure you check out her younger stuff. Back story is also interesting...her mother supposedly tried to kill her as a child, she didn't speak until later in childhood...lots of back stories...some true some elaborated I'm sure. She appeared on the kids voice and didn't get a chair turn (I think because the judges couldn't figure out what to do with her). Between the ages of 14 and 17, she participated in several Russian competition shows. Some of her songs during this period are Wicked Games, Human, Rechenka, Demier Danse and several others. How old is she - she was 18 years old when she delivered this performance. You should check her out four years previously with her daring rendition of the Russian folk song Rechenka. The video is no longer on her channel (she had to remove it on request of the TV network), but you can still find it on UA-cam. You said her voice is like a storm - what a good description. Others have said her voice can shake the universe, which is also appropriate, especially for this performance.

At the age of 5 she was still traumatized and unable to speak properly. A massage therapist who visited the orphanage trying to help kids, was the first to recognize something special in this little girl, and eventually adopted her. Diana was sent for singing lessons because it was thought that this might help her learn to speak without impediment. Diana Ankudinova is a contralto (classical singer voice category) which is not very common for female singer. What is EXTRA unique is that its VERY RARE for a young female to be able to control a contralto voice. You are right that it is so "shocking" at first, you have to listen to (I think) 3 performances of hers before you acclimate and 100% appreciate what she is doing. For comparison, still you've recently reacted to NW, Floor Jansen is a Soprano (much higher range).

Here are three reasons why Diana (the Queen of Goosebumps) doesn't sound human. First, she is a contralto, which is the absolute rarest type of female voice. It allows her to sing very dramatic/powerful, very (I mean VERY) deep, very dark, very rich. Second, she has a spectacular larynx. She's been called the vocal Eighth Wonder of the World. Third, she is polyphonic, which means she can produce multiple harmonics within her voice at the same time. This is what allows her to sound like two people at once. (more below) When you add all that up you basically get a person who creates her own auto-tune. She doesn't need electronic auto-tune. She IS her own auto-tune. And the effect when you hear her is totally mind-blowing. It's like she's singing right through you, like a sword straight into your soul. Literally NOBODY else on the planet has a voice like hers. She's not one in a million, she's one in eight billion.
She was not anywhere near the low end of her scale. The only other singer I have heard with her abilities was Cher. You need to hear her cover of "Wicked Game" in competition as well as some of her versions of other songs of her heritage (Russian steppe). I first heard her when she was 16. The rumored story is that she was adopted after being abandoned by her mother at age 3 at a bus stop in a Russian winter with a broken collarbone. She was put into an orphanage and was eventually adopted by her current adoptive mother. She has had professional voice training.

I don't understand why you would say that she has a thick accent. I understood every word she sang and didn't notice any accent. I just watched your reaction to Dimash - Stranger and, funny enough, he did have quite an accent but there was no such comment on your part. I am Canadian and I speak both French and English. Diana has a better pronunciation in both French and English songs than Dimash does, even though she is nine years younger. Even at 10 yrs old, she sang a Beatles song in near perfect English. That being said, it doesn't matter to me if she did have an accent, she has the best voice I've ever heard and she sings directly to my soul.
This particular song was actually the clearest English I’ve ever heard from her, I understood everything. Sometimes it’s not as clear, and the accent is far more obvious (she has a tendency to drop the last syllable of certain words), but we aren’t here to overanalyze her English pronunciation and it doesn’t detract from her singing. The fact that she has sung in 6 languages says a lot about her abilities

She's been performing on stage since she was 9 when she was NOT picked on The Voice Kids Russia. This dark arrangement was not Diana's. It was done by Tommee Profitt about 3 years ago. But with Diana's pipes and stage performance, it's even darker than the original. She added the final soprano vocalise run as well as the two final phrases to make it more of her own. This was show number 1 for the series, The Show Mask Go On where the contestants are also the judges. So the looks of astonishment from the judges must be upon the realization that they just entered a contest with a voice from God.

Diana is now 19 years old and recently finished performing on the Russian Mask Show. On the first five performances, she disguised her voice so the performances didn’t attract much attention and I didn’t know the show existed. But then with the sixth performance, she ceased the voice disguise and the next morning I knew about it on the other side of the world. It’s clear that she has elevated her skills to a new level in the past 18 months since performing "Can't Help Falling In Love".

Hi guys. Her name is pronounced Dee-anna. She is 18 in this performance and has been singing since age 5 but made her mark 4 years ago. She is a contralto the lowest and rearest❤ of female voices. This TV show Showmaskgoon which she won consisted of 9 episodes. Each episode was a different genre and the 9 competitors judged each other. The other competitors were all older established singers. This was episode 1.
Bars & Barbells, for you, and all those in your audience that may not know, this performance took place on September 25, 2021, during the first season of a new Russian vocal competition called the ShowMaskGoOn. Diana Ankudinova’s cover of the Elvis Presley classic Can't Help Falling In Love, clearly demonstrates Diana Ankudinova has developed into what many vocal professionals are saying is a true contralto voice type. Again, for those that don’t know a contralto is the lowest kind of female voice, and a true contralto is very, very rare.
Now, a female's vocal range helps define her voice type, and in 2017, at the age of 13, her vocal range was measured from a low of D3 to a high of A5, which is in the male tenor range. Diana has said she was not happy with her lack of a higher vocal range, which kept her out of the more prestigious music academies. Diana, along with her vocal teacher decided to concentrate extensively on developing her higher vocal range. In September of 2021, at age 18, during her Can’t Help Falling In Love performance, her vocal range was again measured. Now her functional vocal range goes from a low of C3 (male tenor range) to a high of B♭5, which is well within the Mezzo Soprano range. Diana’s upper range improvement is now on full display for all to hear during the middle portion of this performance.
But it's not just how low she can go, it's the exceptional quality of her tone in the lower range of her voice. It's in the roundness, fullness, and depth, plus her ability to access, and use an enormous amount of resonance. The depth and power of her voice further define Diana as a "Dramatic Contralto", which is the rarest of the rare contralto voice types. Dramatic Contraltos have the deepest, and darkest sound, and are the most powerful of the contralto voice types. At the end of this performance, the power of a “dramatic contralto” voice is on full display.
The question people ask? How does Diana do it? How is it possible for such a young female singer to achieve these low, rich, deep, profound sounds? Without actually scoping her vocal tract while she is producing these low notes to actually see what is happening within her vocal tract, the general conciseness of many vocal professionals is simply attributing Diana's ability to winning the genetic lottery, meaning she was just born with her unique vocal anatomy. Diana's vocal folds (vocal cords) appear longer and thicker than most female singers. Her larynx appears larger and her pharynx similarly appears longer than most female singers, plus she has a large oral cavity. When you combine all these attributes, this unique vocal anatomy gives Diana Ankudinova the ability to produce the low, deep, rich, and full sounds, she is known for, but without actually scoping the vocal track to verify, there is no way to be 100% sure.
Diana is also a master at using a vocal technique known as polyphonic singing which is an extraordinary accomplishment for someone so young. A singer that has mastered polyphonic singing can create up to two, different tones at the same time which adds to the harmonic overtones and that can make it sound like more than one voice singing. It is this polyphonic ability when coupled with her ability to access huge amounts of resonance, that is why some people believe Diana Ankudinova is using some form of artificial electronic voice manipulation or she is using some kind of pitch correction software to alter or adjust her sound. Others believe another person is singing in the background off stage, or Diana is lip-syncing over a previously recorded vocal track that was altered or modified. No artificial manipulation of Diana's voice is happening at all, and no one else is singing off stage, nor is she lip-syncing to a vocal track. Other voices and music you are hearing are all backing tracks used to fill in and round out the performance along with the musical score. Diana Ankudinova and only Diana Ankudinova is singing Can't Help Falling In Love.
During this competition, Diana was the last to perform with her cover of "Can't Help Falling In Love" during "The ShowMaskGoOn!" competition. Diana was competing against other professional singers who also doubled as judges. This new vocal competition was televised over a nine-week period, one episode per week with the other professional singers/judges competing against each other, and based on the individual performances they awarded judging points to each other. When not actively competing herself, Diana was also a member of this judging panel. Every week, each singer took the stage and performed a different song over each of the nine weeks. Each contestant was required to sing a different song from a different genre using different styles.
The ShowMaskGoOn! concluded on November 20, 2021, and during Diana's performance, the male judge on the top row, the first to stand is the well-known Russian opera tenor, Yusif Eyvazov from Azerbaijan, who was invited to participate as a special guest judge for this inaugural competition. At the end of Diana's performance, she receives a standing ovation from all her fellow competitors. One of those competitors is the well-known contemporary Russian singer, Julia Parshuta. Julia is in the center row dressed in red and looks totally dumbfounded at the end of Diana's performance, and She puts both hands on top of her head, with a look of total shock and bewilderment. The other judges know Diana Ankudinova, is a generational talent. Finally, The Show Must Go On competition concluded with Diana Ankudinova winning this new competition!

A typical soprano range by the way is B3 to C6 so even with the Bb5 she is well in to the soprano range easily and she has hit that c6 on multiple occasions.
Diana's voice (shockingly unique), is just the tip of the iceberg. I’ve never seen another performer that crushes virtually every mode of expression like she does. What I like most about Diana is how she overcame a rather tough start to life. Her birth mother was physically abusive and finally abandoned her in the street, in the middle of winter, at the age of 3. She ended up in an orphanage and would eventually suffer from nightmares, a nervous breakdown, and lingering speech problems. Her adoptive mother started Diana on singing lessons as one method of hopefully improving her verbal abilities.
Despite all that she is now, by all accounts, a remarkably intelligent, poised, and humble young lady. To me, she is bravery, perseverance, and soul power personified. I get emotional just watching her, knowing how far she has come, never mind the otherworldly voice. By far, my favorite singer in the world. And yeah, her tessitura is crazy for a contralto but it’s that thunderous, rich, dark, resonant timbre that stands out for me. She’s a witch, enchantress, siren, sorceress... they all apply. I wish her all the best in this world.
The gentleman who stood up is the well known Azerbaijani opera singer Yusif Eyvanov. He is married to the world class Russian soprano Anna Netrebko. Together they are opera royalty. Presumably, he would not be easy to impress. Both he and other members of the jury remarked at the amount of pure energy Diana was emitting. Yusif said he’s never felt anything like it in his life.

Just to clarify, this show called "ShowMaskGoOn, was not a talent competition, rather a singing show where nine singers, including Diana, were invited to sing songs in nine different genres over the nine week run of the show. When not performing, Diana sat in the stand with the others. After each performance, the other singers (along with a different weekly guest) critiqued and marked each other. Diana was 18 here (September 2021) and will turn 20 on 31st May 2023.
However, she did first come to prominence on a talent show (You Are Super) a few years earlier (2018-19). "Rechenka" as a 14 year old is a must see, and fun fact she is one hell of a yodeler....she is 17/18/19 yo now, be sure you check out her younger stuff. Back story is also interesting...her mother supposedly tried to kill her as a child, she didn't speak until later in childhood...lots of back stories...some true some elaborated I'm sure. She appeared on the kids voice and didn't get a chair turn (I think because the judges couldn't figure out what to do with her). She won a Russia talent show for kids who were disadvantaged twice AND her mentor is Kutoy who is also Dimashe's mentor. Enough from me...

At the age of three in the middle of Russia's far northern Winter she was abandoned, injured, at a bus stop where she was rescued and sent to an orphanage. At the age of 5 she was still traumatized and unable to speak properly. A massage therapist who visited the orphanage trying to help kids, was the first to recognize something special in this little girl, and eventually adopted her. Diana was sent for singing lessons because it was thought that this might help her learn to speak without impediment.
Only two years later she started singing in local theater, and in street plays and performances. And soon after was entered in a Russian TV music competition for disadvantaged children. Diana Ankudinova is a contralto (classical singer voice category) which is not very common for female singer. What is EXTRA unique is that its VERY RARE for a young female to be able to control a contralto voice. You are right that it is so "shocking" at first, you have to listen to (I think) 3 performances of hers before you acclimate and 100% appreciate what she is doing. For comparison, still you've recently reacted to NW, Floor Jansen is a Soprano (much higher range).
Well, she could be a contralto, but we'll never know really, the classification is irrelevant, she'll never sing opera, she doesn't like it :-)

You should listen to "Rechenka"", sung a 14 years old. It's an old Russian folk song sung in Russian. If you don't mind listening to a song in a foreign language , her voice and command of the stage at that age is amazing.

Here are three reasons why Diana (the Queen of Goosebumps) doesn't sound human. First, she is a contralto, which is the absolute rarest type of female voice. It allows her to sing very dramatic/powerful, very (I mean VERY) deep, very dark, very rich. Second, she has a spectacular larynx. She's been called the vocal Eighth Wonder of the World. Third, she is polyphonic, which means she can produce multiple harmonics within her voice at the same time. This is what allows her to sound like two people at once. (more below) When you add all that up you basically get a person who creates her own auto-tune. She doesn't need electronic auto-tune. She IS her own auto-tune. And the effect when you hear her is totally mind-blowing. It's like she's singing right through you, like a sword straight into your soul. Literally NOBODY else on the planet has a voice like hers. She's not one in a million, she's one in eight billion.

She was not anywhere near the low end of her scale. The only other singer I have heard with her abilities was Cher. You need to hear her cover of "Wicked Game" in competition as well as some of her versions of other songs of her heritage (Russian steppe). I first heard her when she was 16. I don't understand why you would say that she has a thick accent. I understood every word she sang and didn't notice any accent. I just watched your reaction to Dimash - Stranger and, funny enough, he did have quite an accent but there was no such comment on your part. I am Canadian and I speak both French and English. Diana has a better pronunciation in both French and English songs than Dimash does, even though she is nine years younger. Even at 10 yrs old, she sang a Beatles song in near perfect English. That being said, it doesn't matter to me if she did have an accent, she has the best voice I've ever heard and she sings directly to my soul.

This particular song was actually the clearest English I’ve ever heard from her, I understood everything. Sometimes it’s not as clear, and the accent is far more obvious (she has a tendency to drop the last syllable of certain words), but we aren’t here to overanalyze her English pronunciation and it doesn’t detract from her singing. The fact that she has sung in 6 languages says a lot about her abilities

She's been performing on stage since she was 9 when she was NOT picked on The Voice Kids Russia.
This dark arrangement was not Diana's. It was done by Tommee Profitt about 3 years ago. But with Diana's pipes and stage performance, it's even darker than the original. She added the final soprano vocalise run as well as the two final phrases to make it more of her own.
This was show number 1 for the series, The Show Mask Go On where the contestants are also the judges. So the looks of astonishment from the judges must be upon the realization that they just entered a contest with a voice from God.
