Grace Dieu limeworks unfinished business in Hugglescote and the return of Noseh Nev

- Hello everyone! In todays video we are having a Noseh down at Grace Dieu limeworks, we have unfinished business in Hugglescote and its time for the return of Noseh Nev!
So this, is a very nice little local video, and Grace Dieu in particular seems to be a place that I just cant leave alone! But, there is just so much history down there. The limeworks of course, is somewhere we have been to before, very early on in my video making, but I didn't know an awful lot about the place back then.
Also, we go in search for the Hugglescote mill Tail Race, that iv'e been banging on about! With the mill being demolished in the 1930's, there wasn't much hope in finding the Tail Race. Do I find it? Well you will just have to watch it wont ya lol! We also have some interesting things to look at in the river sence to, that have been doing my head in for ages, because I don't know what they are lol! And of course, we have the return of the mighty Noseh Nev! Who these days, is very hard to get hold of and book, you have to go through his agent, his managment company, he has image rights, and not forgeting the vast amount of Bonios he recieves as payment!!!

Great video Steve and finding that old race was a brilliant bit of work. I think those stone wheels belonged to the mill, I’ve sent you a photo via email. You are dead right about that being a pump at Gracedieu, the name on the frame is ‘Joseph Evans & Sons Wolverhampton’, they were a major manufacturer of pumps from 1810 until they were taken over in 1944.
I’ve been riding mountain bikes in Cademan and Grace Dieu woods for 15 years and I’ve always wondered what that piece of equipment was down in Grace Dieu woods. Had no idea that the steep bits I was riding down were old limestone quarry workings from 1793! Very interesting to learn more about my local area. I cut through that nature reserve in hugglescote on my way to Cademan woods too. Had no idea about the mill or any of that!
Some interesting bits in the top half of those woods too. Ruins of an old hunting tower that used to be owned by the De Lisle family that was demolished in 1930. And apparently there was once a chapel nearby too.

My dad told me what it was and he says that below it there is a pond that was formed from the lime works quarry. This pond water was used for a vegetable and growing area for the Manor a couple of hundred yards away from the pump.
Above the pump on the cliff to the quarry there stood a small water tower, which held the water and provided a gravity feed system for the plants.
He can remember having to pump the water by hand to help fill the tower often, and I bet it was hard work.
Propper hard work I bet! It's a great little Gem as well, tucked away in there.
I used to play down there as a kid those circles in the brook are what's left of four oil drums filled with concrete. It was a lot deeper years ago and you could see the drums

Love the channel and subscribed especially the one about the medieval culvert in whitwick and how the railway built the area up by 15 foot. When you showed me the cobbled floor with the drain running down the middle I immediately thought of a slaughter house. I used to work in a meat factory and those tanks that were in there looked like brine tanks. You fill them full of salt water and chuck your hams into them and leave them to cure

The amount of times I've crossed that bridge over Huggy Brook and never had a scooby! Thanks for bringing the old tail race to life for us all Steve. Need to find away of getting a camera in and getting a good nosey. Proper local history.

It turns out that they are former gun mounts! I shared on Facebook, very surprising.
