Thank you Father. I'm usually a very independent American, and an artist also, but the hateful comments don't benefit anyone. Just like if we were in a church during vespers, we couldn't tolerate someone screaming or verbally bullying the people next to them.
Thank you so much for stopping the anonymous bullies.

Wise and comforting words like always father Seraphim. Like a warm blanket in the cold and a balm on our soul. But beside that....I like so much that you talk with animals. Now I fee not alone anymore 🙂. Most of the people say that it is weird to speak with animals. It are Gods creatures great and small. Doamne ajuta.

    • @mullmonastery
      @mullmonastery  3 роки тому +13

😊 Dear Inge, there is nothing weird in speaking to a goat. I suppose it may get slightly problematic if the goat responds and you actually carry a conversation... but even then, there is always hope 😊 Seriously, it is a sin to engage emotionally with an animal as if that animal were a human being, but it is not sinful to love the animal as an animal, to care for it and to do one's best to facilitate a beautiful, pain-free for them. Be blessed, dear one. Stay safe and healthy.

@@mullmonastery here's a point I'm happy to hear you say. I have three beautiful kitties and I love them very much. But the cat-lover world has become a strange place where people think their animals are people, and they refer to themselves as the cat's mother and the cat as their "babies". Now, we live in very confused times when a lot of people are very messed up about family life, marriage and children, and a lot of people who probably should have married and had children weren't able to, and I can understand wanting to fill an emotional gap any way you can, but we've come to the point where people seem almost delusional about it. And I think it's bad for the animals too, to be treated like children. They're not. I don't keep my cats indoors all the time and this is a big issue for the Cat-crazies out there. But it's because I love them AS animals, and not as children, and not as objects. They're not really my possessions as a book or a chair would be, but living beings with lives of their own and purposes of their own to fulfil, given to them through their nature by God. I don't have a right to deform that nature, and keep them inside all the time as if they were toys or mere objects just to make myself feel better. Because I love them AS cats, and because I'm responsible for my own emotions, I know they have to go out and do their important cat-stuff, catching mice and roaming around. It is true they might and even probably will die earlier than they might if they were imprisoned in the house for my amusement, but they will have lived as a cat should live, as he was designed to live. It also helps that we live in the country, far away from traffic, for my good as well as theirs.

@@hilarywhite2953You mentioned “cat crazies” . I will say that I’m not a cat crazy person but I kept all my cats indoors because that was the best way for me to love and care for them. Outdoors many suffer from diseases, they get into fights with other cats, or other animals, often larger like the occasional raccoon or even fox, these larger predators have come into many larger cities, and I am aware of what food the cats eat. I don’t like to put a label on what love and care looks like for people and their animals.

I get so much comfort in listening to these videos. I am so glad you talk about all the issues surrounding us in this day in age. There is so much information given from psychologist, teachers, politicians, media, etc that don’t share same beliefs and love for others. It is important to listen to hear what the church or what loving people like you have to say. You have much love, wisdom and are at daily communion with God that I would rather listen to your wisdom on these issues than what the world has to offer. Thank you.

This is primarily a message for our friends, all those who have made this Monastery possible and continue to support us: you are safe with us, dear ones. We have been safe with you for the last decade, so we shall do everything in our power to keep our Monastery and this UA-cam Channel a safe, decent and civilised meeting place for us all to share our thoughts and prayers.
We shall no longer tolerate bullying, we shall no longer allow shameful and violent reactions against people who leave comments in good will and good faith. Free speech is a glorious thing, but we have learnt these last few years that there is a MOUNTAIN of difference between free speech and bullying, between allowing one's freedom of expression and facilitating violence.
We THANK you for everything, and we promise to do our best to keep this Channel safe for everyone and a source of love and compassion for everyone.

In the various online places I've been a political writer, the policy is to moderate comments. You have to or the hostility blows all out of proportion. There's something about the internet - maybe the anonymity - that makes people go overboard. Free speech isn't what people think it is. Freedom and license aren't the same thing. The legal concept of freedom of speech that we have in western countries means the GOVERnment can't shut down your speech. Private people have every moral and legal right to not allow this or that thing to be said - or the people saying it - in their own homes or private situations. People like to say "I have my rights!" but no one remembers that rights don't exist in vacuum, but derive from our duties.

I think, dear Jason, that there is a 'switch' in the heart which one can somehow turn, and that makes you immune to the reactions of those around you. The risk is that it makes you immune to their hatred, but it also makes you immune to their love. This is why I'd rather suffer when someone throws their poison at me, but that suffering does not mean that I also need to collapse under its weight. May we all be blessed, dear one.

@@mullmonastery That puts words to my own dillemma. I know I could flip that switch but choose not to. This leaves me potentially too concerned about pleasing the world to serve in God's Kingdom. I am a recent convert but impatient to be less double-minded. But then the world IS complicated and it's hard for me to think God would rather I ignore that many unbelievers err more liberal than I find I can countenance as a Christian out of love and not deliberate hate. Some Christians assume the latter just as liberals assume the same of them, and they don't tend to bear the fruit of the Spirit as a result. But I will think on your words Father. God bless you.

That was something I had to understand, dear Tommi. I often wondered why people started saying "what people think of you doesn't matter" in terms of self "expression" when that very type of permissiveness has caused our collective values to be blurred and in some cases completely flipped. I grew up hearing "what will people think!?" Which usually helped to get us to rethink a behavior that wasn't helpful or becoming. Thank you for sharing this. God love you and bless you.

    Evlogeite!
Father, your video message is totally in keeping with our Orthodox faith and mindset, and it manifests growth in Christ on this UA-cam channel.
To love someone is not to give them what they want, but rather to do for them what is good for their salvation; sadly very few people know this or believe this or practice this.
To love someone is to be “patient and kind,” 1 Corinthians 13:4. To be patient is not to endure frustration, but rather it is to recognize things for what they are - which actually resolves frustration and brings peace. To be kind is to do what is good for someone, not necessarily to give them what they may desire. As Christians, we have an obligation to clothe our brother’s nakedness, cf. Matthew 25:36.
If you debate and refute and fight against your antagonists, you are not being patient; you are not recognizing the truth, you are not recognizing them for the polemicists they are.
If you allow individuals to disturb the peace, you are enabling their sinfulness; this is not kindness.
If you allow ugly messages to remain in the comments, you are letting them reveal their nakedness and sinfulness to the world; you are not clothing their nakedness.
If you permit ugly comments to remain on the channel you provide both the “near opportunity to sin” and facilitate sinful acts; this is not kind for you would be giving them the audience they want rather than helping them to avoid sin - at least on your channel.
We pray in peace and we pray for peace, we extend peace saying “peace be with you;” the very first words of the resurrected Christ were ““Peace to you! ... If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained,” John 20:21, 23.
Father, continue to establish peace, to maintain peace, to protect peace, to cover your brothers’ sins, and to forgive them.
    With brotherly love, +L.
(P.S., I fondly recall meeting you a few years ago in Denver.)

I don’t blame you for this. We as Christians should be spreading Love, encouragement and uplift one another. I’ve learned though that we should respond with love and not be offended. The ones the bring negativity will turn away. Even though I’m not Eastern Orthodox, we are all the church of Jesus Christ. You are a good teacher and I appreciate you. May God Bless you and your monastery.

I suffer greatly. I have nerve damage that causes hi pain 24/7 and I have other illnesses. I thank God for my suffering because it is from him. I will gladly suffer if it means that I I'm caught in the eye of the Lord. If he sees me because of my suffering it is a good thing. :-)

First of your videos I have seen. Very enjoyable. I think it is very important to understand over what we have authority and have the courage to use it for the common good. It is so much easier in these days of tolerance to let everyone do what they want.

Sir, can you create a list of videos teaching us the lives, teachings and values of the Desert Father's?
Would be a great help for us to know more about our Faith.

That is a very good idea, dear one. I have been thinking about that for a few months to be honest, I just do not know if anyone would be interested. I also think that their lives and the examples they left would be scandalous to many Christians today. I suppose an introductory video, explaining how to relate to these stories and how to use them in our own lives, might help with that. Anyway - thank you for your comment, it relights a fire in my heart concerning the Desert Fathers.

I don't recall ever seeing a comments section that wouldn't be full of vitriol. No matter the topic... there would always be at least one person determined to set the comments section on fire.

Thank you Father for being here for us. I pray for you almost every day. I need prayer to endure chronic illness for which the doctors are at an end of what they can do and I have tried everything to get well and nothing improves it. I need strength and grace to endure it and for it to work in me to my salvation. I am being sorely tempted to self-pity and despondency. If I go to Sunday Liturgy, I cannot do anything else the rest of the day including cook a meal for my family. That is where things stand and I am so sad about it right now. Illness is clearly God's assignment for me and I need to be able to accept it.

Bravo Father, even Jesus was not afraid to tell people off when they were in the wrong, including his friend and our first pope Peter. One cannot be effective, if one does not have a spine, bravo.
