This is just what I needed, thank you!!! I live in the Midwest and am the only one homeschooling an only that I know in our large friend network. It can feel isolating so I’m so glad to have found your channel. ❤

Well said! I also homeschool an only child and I really appreciate you organizing this colab to join homeschool moms of onlys together! The struggles are so unique and it's nice to hear from others to relate to. 💜💖

I love these tips! It was so fun to collaborate with you on this.
I think a lot of people don't realize how difficult it is to be EVERYTHING every single day for your child.

As a mom homeschooling an only for the last 7 years, I think what is most important for both of us is having community for connection.Every day all day at home doesn’t feel healthy for us. And if you’re at the point where you are strategizing to distract or entertain your child-you need to get out of the house and find some homeschool friends/park days/classes etc. bc kids need friends! They need to see and talk to friends in real life-especially if you have an only and if you have a middle schooler-it makes all the difference for my child. I am always reading posts from middle/high schoolers whose kids are having struggles and most of them have no community. Their parents have an unreal expectation that they want to sit and do schoolwork all day every day and that is just not realistic or fun for anyone. There are so many ways to learn and so many people homeschooling now. If there’s not a park day or classes near you-then be the first one on the dance floor and start something-build it and they will come. And also don’t forget to include fun things/ways to recharge your own self too! 🥰

As the mom of an only child, I like to foster independence. You want to eat here? Go see if they can seat us. You want to buy this? Go up to the counter and order it. Oftentimes the person at the counter will still look at me but I just keep quiet and let my daughter handle it.
It's made it so that she speaks clear, is friendly and she's learned to interact with many different kinds of people. Now that she's 10, I have no problems sending her out on little errands by herself (we live in the center of town, most vendors we frequent know her). And as a bonus: a little extra me-time!

I also have my only son to attend one Outschool class every weekday so I can have some quiet time.

If I had a kid, I would definitely use Khan Academy for everything.
