- I drive through the most dangerous hoods in Houston Texas. What will I make of it coming from the UK?
According to a poll by the Property Club via Fox 26, the Sunnyside district is the most dangerous hood in Houston with the most common murder, assaults & robbery.

@@CarterKey6 Hi. My family trace back to Ireland originally but we are British American. Dad is from Georgia but mother is British. He was in the US Airforce stationed in Europe when he met my mother (as they did back in the 80s), lol. It provides for an interesting heritage and means I can go between the UK and US without needing visas etc 😁

Thanks for the ride and memories, but having lived and worked in Houston for a number of years, I can honestly say that I've felt more intimidated on a night out in Blackpool.
There was nothing in your drive around that was even a bit scary or unusual and the streets looked pretty clean compared to the UK.
If you want to visit the rough spots go to the Mexican suburbs near the San Jacinto memorial.

Obviously Texas doesn’t have the MOT equivalent as is the same as in many US States. In Vegas the only check I had to have was a Smog test, they connected a computer to the OBD port.

Be careful, Stephen. In the last 24 hours in Texas, there has been a high school shooting. Also, an incident where an 18-wheeler has ploughed into a Department of Safety building. Never a dull moment in the Lone Star state.

The school shooting was from a dispute between two students. Unless he's going to that school to involve himself in a gangbanger dispute he won't get shot at that or any school

I was a bit concerned for you as you are driving a hire car in a rough area, I was worried some local beer monsters in their spiked wheel convertible would pull you over and trash the car and steal the wheels, And those hotels remind me of where serial killers take their victims. Very interesting vlog !
Stephen i am in awe of you the fact that you drove on those highways so confidently as if you were a local well done, from what i could see the areas did not seem too bad seen much worse in the Uk, but you were up close so know how bad it looked to you.

Thanks Carol. The I believe they are not spikes, and are actually legal here as long as they don't make the vehicle wider than 8 feet.

That looks like many places in America, maybe a bit rough but its not so unusual, Cheap Motels and Dollar stores are everywhere. The gas is super cheap at $2.99, we are paying for $4.71 for the same grade here in Oregon.
The Buick with spikes, Heck if its not illegal they can ride around like that all day, the laws here for vehicles are very weak, I see cars riding around all the time that would not be allowed on the streets of the UK. I did enjoy the Ride, Thanks Stephen.

some gas stations offer a cheaper price for cash because of the credit card processing fees. Many stores simply pass the processing fee onto the consumer, but some gas stations will offer a cash price, thus passing the savings onto the consumer.

Hi Stephen, the spikes you saw on the cars wheels at the beginning and at around 13:00 are called ‘Elbows’ because they stick out like elbows or some call them ‘Swangas’ and it’s a Houston Texas thing, they put those kind of wheels on cars that they call ‘Slabs’.... There are different widths of Elbows ranging from small to really wide.
There’s a rapper from Houston called Paul Wall who is really into Slabs and he’s done songs specifically about ‘Slabs’

There not spikes on that car, just hubcaps or wheeltrims as they’re known over here in the uk. Only for decoration and sometimes seen on lowriders, if they did come into contact with another vehicle, they’d just fall off, they just clip on
Houston has always been a mean place, you either love it or hate it. Me personally I love Houston

At least that quad bike was being driven on the road unlike Blackpool where it would be driven on the tram tracks.
Also there was an abundance of trees unlike Blackpool.
You should've been stomping down them roads in a "KENWORTH W900L" fella, that would have really suited you with yer 'at and bearded boat race. If I were over there I'd still be calling it a petrol station and probably be driving on the wrong side of the road causing complete mayhem. 😆 Loving your updates. 👍

I always watch the ASP videos with my colleague at work lol Houston is riddled with criminals, which is a shame as there are a lot of nice people who live here also. I-45 close to NASA used to be a decent side of town, but it has really gone downhill. It’s a shame, but that’s brill that you watch the ASP UA-cam videos also!!

The spikes aren’t as menacing as they may appear. Google “Houston slab culture”, they’re purely for show and not designed to rip anyone’s tyres apart.

I thought it looked surprisingly green with plenty of trees. Take note again Blackpool council! Other than that I agree it looked very sketchy and so boring and dystopian. All the random wires and poles everywhere, not to mention the ramshackle buildings! Horrible!!!
As for the long grass - not sure if it’s supposed to be left uncut as we’re now doing that over here to aid wildlife. I suspect it’s just a lack of maintenance though.

Granted that neighbourhood is pretty scary but it's nowhere near as bad as Blackpools Central Drive😮

It’s a long long way from Blackpool Stephen sooner you then me. It did remind me of my stay at Kissimmee in Florida a few years ago. I had to catch a local bus with a friend of mine to get back into town and this just brings back memories. That car with spiked wheels surely that’s not allowed, but then this is America.

Thanks for the video, showing us round houstan, what a disappointment, very run down in areas, but i couldnt actually see the spikes on my phone, and far to many trees, plonked everywhere, grass verges etc not cared for, bit like here in alot of areas, i have been to various states in the u.s. and liked them all, but texas doesnt appeal to me. So pleased to see it though, thanks 😊
