    That was surprising. The 2.7AH included the inverter losses, so very unexpected. Thanks for the demo.

    Higher wattage heating element = quicker boil time.
    It would be interesting to see those instant hotwater kettles that heat as you pour into a cup.

      I thought the 12v would of used less power overall but surprised me . I might do a comparison one day when I get the time on a 12v oven and an air fryer . Hope you enjoyed thanks for watching 👍🍻

    13 minutes is a hell of a long time to wait for the kettle to boil just for a coffee. If that jug was full you would be waiting 20-30 minutes I'd imagine. I guess if your retired and had nothing better to do it would be ok. 240v definitely the way to go though.

      Takes about 35 mins when it’s full 600ml 🤣 . I started with the 12v kettle years ago and i got sick of waiting .lol . Thanks for watching mate 👍🍻

      @@EFFICIENTSELF That's insane to wait that long. I got the collapsable 240v kettle years ago after watching your videos. Didn't even know they existed before that. One of the best things in my camping kit. Cheers Dino🍻

    Good video mate. I got a 12v one today and boiled 350ml of water in 30 mins with out the engine or on ignition on. They are ideal to be honest , gonna test tonight when driving see if gets more voltage and brews quicker

    • @EFFICIENTSELF
      @EFFICIENTSELF  8 місяців тому

      Cheers mate . 12v kettles are great if you not in a hurry for boiling water. Would be the same case as 12v ovens ,if you had a voltage step up converter the water would boil quicker . Good luck with your test 👍 thanks for watching 👍🍻

    I like my collapsible kettle is faster and uses less wattage than yours, between 480-500 W. I have a 12 V, but I prefer the silicon collapsible. I also think that in consumes less power than the 12V that takes much longer at less than 100 watts. Good video comparison!

    I have a couple of 24v boiling vessels from armored vehicles. I find the newer model pulls about 16 amps at 24v and is about on par with the mains electric kettle, the older one pulls 55 amps at 24v, and will boil 3L of water in about 6 minutes lol.
    but also likes to melt winch solenoids when it disconnects.
    I suggest that the insulation and desin of the element has a lot to do with the efficiency. 12v kettle are notorious for having very poorly designed elements, usually just a length of nichrome wire in a stainless tube. whereas mains kettles have a proper ceramic heating element, often fully immersed or properly thermally coupled.

    Ide only add that my jetboil uses a fraction of the gas equal to your electrical power consumption and boils water in under 2mins. However I need to buy gas repeatedly but you can just recharge via solar so it begs me to wonder which of the then three choice's is best long term? Cheers 🍾

    Approx 38.7Wh for the 12V kettle, 33.8Wh for the AC kettle. The heat loss in the 12V kettle and wiring over the 13 mins plus inaccuracy in the figures (voltage drops over time) would be the explanation. It's not stated if the inverter is 'pure' or modified sine, which affects the inverter efficiency. If it's modified I'd expect > 95% efficiency there.

  • @pooheadlou

    • @EFFICIENTSELF
      @EFFICIENTSELF  Рік тому

      Around $20 on eBay but I found the plug on the cord was a very loose fit when you plug into power outlet . I just used a spare Engel fridge cord I had laying around to replace the dodgie cord that came with the kettle. Other than that the kettle is awesome .
