  • Editing this video nearly killed me. Yes this is a re-upload because there was an editing error in the original that really bothered me BUT I FIXED IT.
So there's this idea going around the audio community that AKG is dead. But the truth is there's a bit more to it than "Samsung bought AKG and now AKG is stinky poo poo." I was in the market for a new editing headphone and the K702 seemed like a good fit but that AKG is dead narrative had me worried I was making a bad purchase. But despite my concerns, I went ahead and got one. Here's me review for the AKG K702!
I know this video is a bit of a departure from my previous content. Here's a link to the video where I explain everything.

I’m glad you covered the K702! Definitely a pair I miss-kind of like a mini HD800S in some ways. You mentioned the limited bass, but it’s worth mentioning that the sub-bass responds fantastically to EQ. Unlike the HD600, which distorts heavily if you boost it more than 3-4 dB, the K702 can handle a full shelf up to Harman Target levels.

I own the K712 Pro and can confirm that the sliding mechanism for the headband is indeed a big weakpoint. On mine (and several others) the clear plastic parts cracked. They don't really affect the functionality all that much though, so I ended up just removing them.
The elastic bands do also stretch out over time, especially if the headphone is stored hanging from the suspension strap. They are a bit of a pain to replace, but it can absolutely be done, and at least here in Europe they can be bought for ~3€ a pair.

      I figured as much.
I started storing mine on a hook and I hang it by the rail instead instead of the suspension strap.
My guess is they'll last if you take care of them.

@@TenshinSound Yeah, i've had mine for a little over 3 years now, and they lasted quite well. And that's with me taking way less care with them than i really should... (Numerous drops and storage hanging from the headband)

One failure point of the Chinese built K700 series headphones, is on one side, one of the wires is a little too short, so when the cup swivel is stressed too much, it can sometimes break the solder join.
I picked up a pair of K702 for $60 because one side was "dead." I just re-soldered that wire, and it worked perfectly

Positional Information is what stands out for me in these headphones. They are also very airy and delicate. love them personally.

these were my go to for playing competitive fps games. Don't play competitively much anymore but it was hard to play without em.

Yes, you will need an amplifier. Using your phone ( if you have a headphone jack on your phone), you will feel like something is always missing, BUT with an amplifier, amplifier dac, they will open up and you might think "Ohhhhhh i see" dongle dac will help for sure but if you're hooked with the audio bug you will start investigating and as long as go into the hobby with your means I'll just say" Welcome brothers and sisters the waters fine." Nuff said

712 pro is the most eq'able headphone I own. Not just eq, but i run saturators too on equalizer apo. It sounds incredible.
Btw, you can make it sound thick and dark as well.

I've been messing with EQ lately and the K702 takes to it very well. I think in future reviews if a headphone does particularly well with EQ (or horribly with EQ) I will bring it up. Adding a subtle bass shelf to this headphone makes a world of a difference. It's SO good.

@@TenshinSoundK702 or K712 with EQ are pretty damn swell tbh! If someone is on a budget and isn’t exactly able to grab an HD600, K702 isn’t a bad option. I’d certainly suggest it over any beyerdynamic in that price range mostly because of the detachable cable. If something happens to your dt770 or 990 you’re fucked and have to send it in lol.
