I thought you did a good job, even if it didn't turn out exactly like Ross's. If you wanted to get closer to Ross's a few things will help. Firstly, you would need the same types of brushes he uses, because the sound you hear when he paints means he's using oil painting brushes typically made from hog hair, which are stiffer, so it's easier to blend on canvas and get the types of effects he's getting. It looks like you're using softer hair brushes, like sable or synthetic sable, so it will be harder to achieve some of the blending and rougher texture he's getting. The size of his brushes really matter, because to get the even large areas of paint consistent, you need a wide brush. He uses a fan brush for the trees, and thin liner or round brushes for the finer details. Using the right sized brush for the types of marks you want to achieve is key. Secondly, he has his canvas vertical, and he's standing away from it, which allows him to use larger arm strokes, which is a way to not only achieve consistent texture or soft blends across the entire canvas, but also stops you from being too fussy with details and over working them, and also allows you to be more sensitive to the weight of the paint strokes... those are more difficult if you're sitting at a table and the canvas is relatively flat, because you're literally distorting the view as you paint (think about the illusion of foreshortening in drawing... that's why you want your canvas or sketch book to be relatively vertical when working on them). You will be surprised at how much would can affect your technique by merely painting while standing with the canvas vertical and standing further away from the painting. This is not criticism of your painting by any means, just some painting advice to make things easier.

If you had better supplies/brushes.....you could take the natural creativity you have to the next level....your painting looks pretty good to me.....it's always best to take inspiration from other artists, but make it your own
