CRADLE OF FILTH "Crawling King Chaos" REACTION & ANALYSIS by Metal Vocalist / Vocal Coach

- Опубліковано 29 лис 2024
- I remember SO vividly hearing Cradle of Filth for the first time. It was 2004, I was 16, and the track was "Swansong for a Raven". Little Mark at his little private christian high school was appalled. And in love. I listened to nymphetamine non-stop for a good period. Over time I lost track of Cradle of Filth, but I absolutely think they're back in great form with "Crawling Kind Chaos. Dani Filth's voice is as shrill, piercing, and torrential as ever! This song is absolutely phenomenal, and you should check it out if you haven't! Hang out with me while I react to Cradle of Filth "Crawling King Chaos!"

Yea this one was Really good
BTW you are hands down the best harsh vocal coach out there!
HER GHOST IN THE ALGORITHMMM
I WANT MARK TO PRACTICE THIS STYLE! Mark if you can actually perfect that high pitch that would be EPIC! just be safe about it and don't blow out your voice
This band has been around for 30 years. So he has actually been doing these vocals for 3 decades.
ha i was realizing how old i was watching this. i was like, hey yeah Cradle was a big part of my teens too, but in the '90s ...
ye and dani is almost fifty, still doing those vocals
@@corrob me, too, man. Saw them their first time to the U.S. in 1997? 98? at Milwaukee Metalfest. Their albums through Cruelty were my jam, but they lost the plot for me after that. Dani's still got it, though, very impressive.
I have seen cradle live on quite a few occasions and last time was last year. Dani is phenomenal live and his vocals are awesome. He has still got his vocals and he can still do it live. Many blessings Amanda ❤ 🙌
dani filth will always be a god of vocals.. the earliere you go the better it gets.. but his peak is maybe arround damnation and a daybut yeah ^^
I am SO EXCITED you’re finally doing a CoF track
They put out a lot of really, really great albums between Nymphetamine and this one. I strongly encourage you to pick some out to just enjoy
Dani sounds better than he has in a decade! So glad his voice is back to how it was around Midian/Nymphetamine.
He got a new therapist not too long ago. around Hammer of The Witches-ish. He used to talk about his therapist torturing him lol.
His vocals on this song sound zero like Midian. He's been more "friendly" sounding, for lack of a better word, since the Midian album. I heard "Thornography" and immediately wrote them off. Nothing they have produced has been remotely good since.
@@webbeddreams thornography was my drop off point for them too, I see what you are saying about the vocal changes but I still love Midian and Nymphetamine.
@@webbeddreams Whaaaat? The last two albums, Hammer of the Witches and Cryptoriana, were good. Some of their best work in a long time.
@@War624 yeah I went and listened after seeing your comment. Still junk. I got through about 2 songs on each album, and there just isn't the gritty sound to either music or vocals. Still friendly garbage.
This is easily their best album in many years. Of course it doesn't touch the unholy trinity of Vempire/Dusk/Cruelty, but it's a very solid album in its own right. So yeah, listen to the whole thing.
i love Cradle's new setup they have going, having a second vocalist, is a really nice contrast to his own, much like how Dimmu Borgir had Vortex and his voice was heavenly compared to Shagrath's demonic tones.
Yeah they’ve messed around with that from time to time over the years (Midian days).
I've been wanting a Cradle of Filth video for so long!!!! This makes me super happy
Finally someone doing Dani filth. Back in his prime his range and high pitches were crazy. Gotta do something from cruelty and the beast remastered
Been waiting for a cradle of filth analysis. Glad it has finally arrived.
It would be interesting if you did an early song from either Cruelty or Dusk album's next.
My band supported them at a show in 2018 and while he isn't as good live he is still able to pull most of it off and it's a ton of fun. You can only do so much live when the albums have layered tracks.
Yes. The whole album is fantastic. You will not regret.
I'm so glad you did this reaction. They were one of the first bands I got into as metal in middle school (I'm a boomer) check out heartbreak and seance though if you do it live there's nudity towards the end but it's a great song. New album is definitely worth checking out. Considering they've been together 30+years and still making great shit is amazing to see.
A boomer? You sure you aren't gen x? I was listening to Midian in middle school and I'm a millennial.
I'm surprised that there are almost no vocal coaches ok UA-cam analyzing Dani Filth's vocals. Great job
Getting to see Cradle of Filth in October was such an awesome experience
Man, I knew the schedule was 3 a week now. But it feels unreal how fast we are getting these videos. I didn’t even remember that the last one was coming out until I saw it in my notifications. I absolutely love the work ethic coming from Mark and the team. Keep ip the good work!
Thanks so much! Its a ton of work but we figured out a way to make it happen!
There will be more space for bands who deserves some kind of credit
I welcome this overwhelming stuff hahah 🤘❤
Haha dude seriously, I've got nothing but time lately and I still can barely keep up
His style is almost like that of a Gothic Horror Storyteller, especially when paired w/the lyrics.
It's what keeps them under my radar as far as releases
Absolutely love your analysis. You don’t let yourself get carried away by personal preference. Your explanation makes it easier for simple, untrained listeners to appreciate the techniques behind the singing. It takes videos like this to understand that this is more than just screaming or grunting.
Obviously subscribed. Looking forward to more Cradle of Filth analyses.
We NEED more Cradle of Filth, please.
Lol threw in the "Jesus is a C....Lovely person" sweatshirt hahah
Other than Dani, the craziest Whistle Pitch screams i’ve EVER heard are done by Kyo from Dir En Grey. Fucking fantastic Japanese band that I highly recommend. They’ve put out so many different albums and their sound changes and evolves very fluidly. If you listen to their song “Different Sense” Kyo’s is a Different sound for sure, and i’d actually say that unlike Dani , who I would say is using very impressive tightness and minimal breath that I feel could easily rip up his vocal chords if not done very very accurately; I can hear Kyo PROJECTING to get to that tone. He also fluctuates the tone with very fast vibrato, which I would say it likely the only way he can get the sound. I was obsessed with trying to pull one off, and I managed to get a (semi) similar tone ONCE after months of trying. It felt incredibly weird and I didn’t want to push it at all. Love the content man! Gonna reach out for lessons too, maybe we’ll suffer through trying to Whistle scream together! Hahaha
Question: Tom Kiefer is/was the lead singer of 80s/90s glam metal band Cinderella. He has a Brian Johnson-esque high pitched voice. But he’s been struggling with his vocal chords for decades. I believe one part is even paralyzed by now. Could you do an analysis of one of their 90s live performances and point out if he’s been using his voice wrongly and if his vocal problems could have been prevented, while keeping his unique singing style?
I LOVE YOUR EXCITEMENT AND APPRECIATION OF THIS!!! FINALLY, someone describing CoF like they should be described! Like a fine wine of rotting flesh and blood. I know some of their videos are a bit graphic, but PLEASE do more!! YES, the whole album is worth listening to! Start to finish. It’s all connected, telling a story, so please do listen!
Me needing out about tho, answering some of your questions and statements: I was SO HAPPY when I saw this! I’ve been really into COF now for about 15-20 years, and Nymphetamine was also my “introduction” that I took upon myself after som songs from Thornography was played for me by a friend. I was DAMN EXCITED when this (Cryptoriana-The seductiveness of decay) was released, and they announced a world tour. The cryptoriana world tour was done in parts with Moonspell, which I had never heard of (crazy, and a crime in my opinion after being introduced to them live). Moonspell wasn’t just opening, they had a full set before COF every night. I was kind of surprised about this album, cause it was almost a softer, different sound to it. Listening to this song today makes me nostalgic as well, as I was so young when I started listening to them at 13-14 yrs old. When this came out back in 2017 and I was buying every T-shirt ever made by them, including the restock of the “Jesus is a c***” together with the tickets for their show in Oslo.
Dani is a damn fine, unique, almost like he sings.. “seductive”, and I could pick out his voice from anyone else’s! No question. Those high “squeals” in so special, and makes their song even more interesting and fun to listen to. Of course some old classics like Nymphetamine Fix, Bathory Aria (on stage he announced it as a tribute to all his Norwegian bloodies in the room), Beneath the howling stars (opening song), Lilith Immaculate, Dirge Inferno, Gilded C*** (Which instantly became a new favorite of mine after hearing it live!), Dusk and her Embrace, and more. It was SO WORTH IT, spending Sunday night, all the way till 2am Monday, being there. Unfortunately since it was so late on a Sunday, people left before COF could take a picture with the crowd in the background. But Dani was great! So was Richard Saw (guitar), Daniel Firth on bass, Marok ‘Ashok’ Šmerda also on guitar, and Martin ‘Marthus’ škaroupka on drums, (keyboards, choir and soprano, orchestration, arrangements, and additional things like backup vocals as well) Lindsey… Let’s not forget Lindsey Schoolcraft everyone! She’s the woman in this video. She played keyboard, and sung all the female vocals and backup. She is a true gem. But unfortunately left the band in 2020 when the pandemic hit, cause she was constantly getting sick, and her mental health of course was a priority. She took the parts of the earlier songs where Liv Kristine was singing (proud to be Norwegian for once), haha. And she did it WELL! MORE than well! She was just great. And a huge loss. She also got her own solos in the Cryptoriana album. I still follow her to this day.
It’s sad that the band members of COF is/have been so frequently changing. I have a hard time imagining that Dani is the cause, cause he’s an awesome person all around from what I’ve heard and know. Also really funny. Which came through between songs in concert. He has been doing this for 3 decades now, and I know they’ve had a LOT of problems with the labels and management, guessing that’s the reason Dani is the only founding member left. He is a genius songwriter too. COF have been on repeat here since 2005-06 when I was first introduced, after the first song I ever heard, “Temptation”.
About Dani’s voice tho: It was a BLAST hearing him live, cause all the vocals were put more “in the front” of the mix. Much more present. And he almost sounded better live. So IF you’re looking for some good footage, go for videos from the Cryptoriana world tour. It’s a shame it wasn’t made a DVD or album from it, cause the show with all it’s effects was just so crisp and perfect. And… Unfortunately, some time after 2018, not exactly sure when, some damage happened to his voice, cause it is not the same. AT all. We “lost” a great voice. But he still preforms, and is still the funny, creepy, seductive, interesting, weird person off stage.
Sorry about the long comment. Just getting SO engaged and happy when I see people reacting to my favorite band. PLEASE DO MORE!!! I learn SO MUCH from you. And btw, you’re right. This album is highly controversial between COF fans, because of the sound amongst other things. Dani’s vocals are so crisp and “clean” here, (never thought I would use “clean” as a word to describe harsh vocals like this! Hope you understand what I mean!) which some of us loved, like I did. But a lot of elitists especially wasn’t too happy about.
It’d be AMAZING to see Dani Filth as a guest on this channel! Also, a weekly or bi-weekly karaoke series would be dope. 🤘🤘🤘🤘
From what I've heard, the quality of Dani's live perfomance is not very consistent.
That being said, I've seen them live in 2018 and he was spot on for the entire gig, sounding "better than on record".
So my personal experience is a very positive one.
He's an amazing vocalist.
I've never been a huge Cradle fan but i respect the feck out of them and Dani because they've powered through for 30 years and had such great musicianship. I'd recommend reacting to the band Hell (the british band not the american sludge band). The vocalist is really interesting, very operatic but he uses distortion in a way thats very sinister, much like Dani but more theatrical.
Not enough Cradle reaction/analysis videos, I'm super happy you've done this and getting to hear someone breaking down some of Dani's vocals!
Great to see you cover Cradle. I 've been a massive fan since '96. It would be amazing to see you contrast to some of the early tracks from 'Vempire', 'Dust' or 'Cruelty'.
I'm really glad to see Dani get some well deserved attention
For a while Dani had seemed to be having a hard time with his voice, but now it seems he's figured it out and is back stronger than ever! Great analysis bro, can't wait for the next! \m/
He got a new therapist not too long ago. around Hammer of The Witches-ish. He used to talk about his therapist torturing him lol.
He used to be a bad alcoholic. that was his problem.
when he quit drinking his voice went back to how it used to be.
go do some research
That's bullshit. He just quit drinking @@fulgerion
Dani actually did lose his high scream for about a decade or so. He seemed to fix it around 2015-17. He sounds amazing now!
Ahhh! Huge fan. I discovered Kardashev about a year and a half ago and fell instantly in love. Started watching reaction videos a couple months ago and just last night discovered your channel. I stayed up WAY too late enjoying you content. I find it incredibly informative and your reactions are priceless. Thank you for Kardashev. Thank you for this channel. Thank you for being you. Keeps up the amazing work!
The whole album is indeed worth a listen, imo. It's all extremely good from one end to the other. I'm pretty sure there's a Hellraiser reference near the end, too, which made me happy. And as long as I'm recommending stuff, Cradle's "Hallowed be thy Name" cover shreds my soul every time I hear it.
So fucked u mentioned liking Nymphetamine back in the day on a whim, cuz that's literally how I found them back then. Random CD purchase round the time it came out. Dug this track aswell ☺👍
the resident evil soundtrack. nympetamine, digging up the corpses, the end of heartache.. such an amazing album.
Mine was “The promise of fever” waking me up at like 2am and scaring the shit out of me.
Finally!! i was waiting for u to talk about whistle fry, that´s my better sound develope as a vocalist too. Did you ever give a try to Japanese Visual Kei? so much whistle fry, inhales and exhales in the same song, pretty amazing. The quality of Dir en Grey and Kyo vocals are just fucking amazing.
thanks for this video! drink water
As a metal vocalist since the age of 14 (28 now), I can tell you from personal experience that the whistle tone is by far the hardest thing ive ever learned. Dani and Kyo are absolute monsters haha
Dani and Kyo are my two favorite vocalists because of their ability to whistle scream and just the range of their voices. When I heard how often they did it and how piercing it was, I knew I had to learn it myself. Or as much as I could, it's definitely the hardest and most dangerous technique I've tried, and there's little information out there on it either. Can't remember if Dani did, but I believe Kyo hurt his voice previously because of how he was using it
Get some Nile on this channel 🤘🏻 "iskander dhul karnon" is a banger!
that was so good!
OMG I've been hoping you'd make a CoF video one day. So happy to see it out now
Cradle has been my fav band since high school i have been listening to them throughout i think he has some struggles around manticore and took a year off touring then magically sounded better then ever since everyone has struggles so there is no knock in that i have seen videos where he was off tone at times but i have seen them 3 different times and all 3 he was flawless so there's that dani is just so incredibly talented with constructing his vocal style its incredible he is about 50 and still doing this at a peak level so many vocalists out there that do much more common vocal styles sound like shit late in their careers it is amazing to see dani is still the GOAT in his craft
Nobody can do it like him !
Yes I want Mark to practice this style!!!! And I know he wants to deep down 😉
Cradle just came to Los Angeles @ belasco and vocals and performance is still as good as ever!! Epic performance 🤘🏼
Been a Cradle fan since Cruelty. So happy to see someone do a vocal breakdown in Dani. Always wanted to understand those highs, even though he’s not quite what he used to be. Surprisingly enjoyed this album as well! Think they are finally starting to click over since the disaster that was Thornography.
One of the best albums released this year
Finally some CoF!🖤 Would've loved to see you analyse one of their older songs (maybe something from Dusk And Her Embrace or Cruelty And The Beast). Awesome video though, as always!^^
Just saw them live and Dani was incredible! Can’t believe how good he sounded
i saw him in 2016 at Saint Andrew's Hall in Michigan, and he sounded so amazing live! One of my favorite performances I've ever went to see!
Glad to hear you like Swansong for a Raven too. My favourite COF song!
So stoked you did a Cradle video, I knew it had to happen eventually! The new album is definitely worth checking out, and if you're digging the contemporary CoF sound both the previous records were great too. If you ever fancy doing an old Cradle song to contrast I'd like to suggest something from Cruelty and the Beast, I think Beneath The Howling Stars would be a good choice. Keep up the good work Mark!
Back in 1999 at age 11 I saw From the Cradle to Enslave uncensored via rips my friend managed to find online from MTV2.
Cradle of Filth was the very first band in extreme metal I got introduced to.
the video still contains the most wierd looking fanny i've ever seen, not that it mattered to us back then though 🤣 i was able to reach that high note and was so fascinating by the whole concept of distorded singing since I had been living on dad's 80's rock to that point.
funny note: It inspired me into 10 years of vocals in several black and death metal bands!
Been wanting you to do Cradle for a while the hype is real
Love COF, love Dani. C&TB and Midian are my favorite records from the band, but this one’s hot too.
He does an amazing job live. Guess I do not have any older instances to compare it to but I just saw them recently and I was so blown away.
I am both nervous and excited for my first lesson next month
Learned a lot! Loved the reaction!🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Thanks for watching!
For live, do check out 2022 Dusk & Her Embrace!
I mean, how can you be at your best as a vocalist by the end of three decades?
Loved this reaction! If you want more Cradle to dig into Midian is probably one of their best albums!
If you want to chat with another vocalist about those whistle type highs Summoning the Lich’s vocalist does this sound but also does some really nasty false chord lows. He would definitely be down to sit down and chat vocals with you. And he has some one take vocal videos of some songs.
About your work, I was really surprised about Kardashev. Really awesome stuff!
this is always very enjoyable to watch
Awh man I loved cradle back in my teen years. This new album kicks ass.
It's really good!
Nice! I actually also listened to CoF when I was a teenager and then forgot all about it for like, 15 years or so. I've been going back to my teen favourites (Dimmu Borgir is one of them, and the latest album is pretty damn good), decided to see if CoF had some new stuff and lo and behold! This album is awesome! So far my favourite track has been Discourse Between Man and His Soul. 👌🏻Great video! And please, do practice that high scream! I'd love to hear you do it. 🙂
You really need to do yourself a favor and dive back into Cradle of Filth. I honestly believe their last three albums, Hammer of the Witches, Cryptoriana (The Seductiveness of Decay), and Existence is Futile are the best albums in their catalogue. Dani is as incredible as ever, and Marthus joining on drums and orchestral arrangements in 2006 really brought a ton of energy.
Favour*
Hold up... have you not heard the Hammer of the Witches album? Blackest Magik In Practice - there's a video for it so I'm sure you can cover it, but other than the song sounding, what I would describe as, beautifully tragic.. the end of the song hits the perfect whistle note!!!
As for the how Dani's voice has held out for 30 odd years. Its fantastic! He doesn't hold the notes as long as the albums but the sound is bang on! Saw them at Brixton (London) like 3 weeks ago
Bro.. I love you! Lol Great video my man. Also what is the song playing at the opening of your video here..? Is that from one of your bands?
Some recommendations from previous albums: Blakest Magik in Practice (my personal favorite), Forgive Me Father (I Have Sinned) (for the 1+ minute sick guitar solo), and all of Midian (Her Ghost in the Fog is the only song with a video and they cut out half the song)
ya i loved old school stuff of theirs, but i always give their new stuff a spin, because they got some gems of late!
Completely random, but when you were talking about adding tonality and sounding more like “you” I realized this is what makes Courtney from Spiritbox so good. You can always tell it’s her as soon as she starts screaming…very distinct.
Great great analyzing as always!!
I saw them just last year in Baltimore and he sounds pretty dam good live to for how old he is and how long he has been doing it
Hey Mark,
i fear your audio is a little out of sync :)
quite interesting to hear some different styles here. thank you very much :)
best wishes from germany
marvin
The editor here: crap, I thought I fixed that, but apparently not. :-/
It's a fantastic album, it flows very well together. I do recommend it!
I know this a little late, but I’d love to see more on that high scream you were playing with 😂
I like it how you said "over a decade". COF is around for over 30 years :D I still can't understand the highs, they seem inhuman. You should try to master it and explain! Also, there were other bands singing like this or in a similar manner. Especially early COF influenced the early works of Hecate Enthroned a lot.
I've always thought of Dani as more of a leather clad Hobbit banshee. And yes, listen to the album. They've been on a roll again, since Hammer of the Witches.
yeah man, Nymphetamine was the shiiiiiiit
still love that album
saw them live in 2008 (time flies), wasn't that blown away, but still solid
This will be my most played Spotify song of 2021...
Danni Filth is also a ventriloquist which is so badass
I'm something of a 'cof nerd' haa! A Friend got me into these Dudes in secondary school....that feels like a lifetime away now. 😂 Along with good old SlipKnot. 😁 Proud British Metalhead right here! 😃👍🤘
Dani is up there in terms of "unique vocalists" for sure.
Other unique vocalists I would love to see on this channel; Kyo (Dir en grey) & Mike Patton. But they're somewhere in my top 5 of favorite vocalists; and probably unique enough
I think you should definitely listen to all of Cradle of Filth because I think all of their albums are great! This sounds like classic Dani Filth to me!
This album is fantastic 👌COF still got it
Do you consider reacting to older songs aswell ? I could give a couple of ideas here : 'Heaven Torn Asunder' for endurance and powerful screaming bars, 'The Black Goddess Rises II' for some vocal variety, 'Bathory Aria' for perfection.
Sometimes! I'll check those out!
I was maybe, 12 when I got told to check out Cradle.
I had Disctubed, Trivium, Slipknot, I had literally heard one song each. This was literally this first month of my metal journey.
Then I got suggest In Flames - Take this Life. That was a bit of a step up and I was like, ok this is sick.
Then I got told to look at Babylon A.D by Cradle...I'ma be honest, I was scared and my brain couldn't process it. I was like, ok I don't think this is for me.
But then I came the next day and played it again. Then the next.
After about a week I loved it.
I stay with those few bands until I hit 15 and thought I liked heavy music until I got shown Cannibal Corpse. That was it for me. Nothing was ever the same.
Lol. Trivium and Slipknot are garbage pop music.
some unique vocals i’d love to see you analyze is Renee from “starkweather “ or “converge “ or my dying bride
The high whistle sound happens for me more easily when I inhale rather than exhale. Takes a little while to configure to find it.
We all came for the whistle my nistle. Natural vocal harmonics are hard to control.
I was hoping you could show us how but we are humans and only so many can do these tricks so thanks for breakin every down to layman terms.
Thanks for watching!
The whole album is fantastic! You should definitely go back and check out their discography, with the exceptions of Thornography and Manticore. That being said, it'll still take quite a while with how many albums they have haha.
you should try and find some live performance from cruelty and the beast / dusk and her embrace era. His vocals where quite different back there, a lot higher pitched screaming etc
ua-cam.com/video/OR2bUmQ1DVQ/v-deo.html , ua-cam.com/video/smAz6ajI16Q/v-deo.html some examples for your perusal, if you have the time to check it out. no one does cradle analysis. cheers!
Hammer of the Witches was considered a return to form when it came to CoF. I'd definitely recommend Right Wing of the Garden Tryptic from it... but just in general, more CoF pleeeeeeeeeease!!
I genuinely feel like some of dani's highest vocal sounds are done with a strange inhale type vocal sometimes. not all of them though. especially the kind that he uses to start necromantic fantasies.
CoF got good again with the lineup changes starting with their album Hammer of the Witches.
Believe it or not to this day Dani actually sounds way better live, unlike many others; there are some videos but Live as in being there... his banshees sound better than ever and the dude is 50 its mind blowing
His screach sounds like he is kickin a puppy down a hallway.
.. Or a Bottle Rocket.. >.>
Fun Stuff! I liken it to Mongolian Throat Singing, two tones at once. COF is Opera. He's Darc Bolan
He is 48y old, so he is a God whith that sound.
You should do a video on Howard Jones and the new stuff with he is doing with Jared Dines in Sion. I really hope they will continue to work together, their new album is killer! Or any of the new Obscura! I’ve had their new album on repeat since it came out.
Get Dani on here.
Can't remember you reviewing Julien Truchan, how about reviewing Let The Blood Spill Between My Broken Teeth?
Gero Ivers (Stumpen) from Knorkator is the most unique dude I've ever heard- you should check out 'Absolution' theres some high quality live videos
well from the stories I've heard from Paul COF has been close to over 30 years. he was in another band and Danny snagged him for COF.
