Not even joking, I drive Uber in LA and I would totally do this! Tons of people would turn this down because they wouldn't want to do the drive back but life is about adventure! If you actually decide to do this... I volunteer! Also... I could really use the money. also another plus side... you've met me before. I'm one of the soldiers in Gravity Gun!

I have done a fair amount of research into the uber topic in the past. There are rules that limit your trip time to 4 hours. Every 4 hours averages about $300 dollars, and the new rates for each city you are picked up in must be applied. I did a project in personal finance about the subject.

so they either geta new uber every time they get in a new state(due to not being able to pick up someone in a state that isn't the registry state) or they can only do multiple trips until they get to the outskirts of CA?

Could have been an interesting caveat had the driver had the option to 'take me as East as you're willing to go'... and then the journey could continue from there with a new driver. Some drivers might do multi-state or overnights.
as an Uber driver in LA and from experience with some long rides I can tell you this, you can't leave the state that your registered to drive in as an Uber driver.
So could it be done with multiple uber drivers then? From state border to state border? XD

Maybe that's something specific to Uber or specific to California, because I am a Lyft driver in Atlanta and I've taken people from the airport here to Alabama, Tennessee, and South Carolina.

I've done cross country two times, once with my dog. If you want to sightsee, a week is comfortable. If you just want business and get there asap, it'll be about two days.

Told my dad about this, (he passionately Ubers in his free time), he said he would do it without hesitation. He said he is still waiting for a straight shot to vegas let alone a long one like that. The long trip (and story no doubt, he is a talkative guy) and big payout alone would be worth the trip back.
He also said that it would be a challenge because uber only lets you start a ride in your home State, so you would have to keep the ride open without fail the whole trip.

Sam, try taking thin clear fishing line (transparent blue works the best) tape it with your modification down the center for an increase in production value :) Anamorphic is what all the cool kids are shooting on these days.You can also make your own anamorphic lenses using 3d printed modifications and old Russian projector lenses. Uber drivers don't see the destination when they're going to pick up, but they do see how much money they're going to make. So they would see a potential $6000 fare on the map.
There is a maximum distance/pay. I believe both Uber and Lyft cap out at $400 and then force you to find a new driver/start the process over. So no, the driver would just see a maxed out $400 fare. Not 6k.

I dont think anyone realizes that the uber driver then has to DRIVE BACK to LA. while you guys just fly on back.
I mean you might as well then uber on back to LA a few minutes after seeing the empire state building.
Uber back: 6k, flight: couple hundreds.
i mean they realized but who cares? the gas would be less than like 500$ total depending on your gas mileage. plus a few nights stay you're still banking 5000$ for about 1-2 weeks or less.

Did you guys ever do this? I say take like a 2 week trip from LA to NY and each state, hangout with a fan from that state and make a video. Have some kind of cool game or short that you can create with each fan. Just have some fun. And come to South Carolina haha. I know that won’t happen, and you guys are way too busy, but something like that would be awesome!!

Yeah it's not entirely about the money either. This would probably be the greatest trip the driver would have.
Its not possible. Not only does Uber limit the distance you can go and forces you to change drivers after a certain distance, but drivers can't leave the state they applied in. So if they were to actually try this they'd have to go through dozens and dozens of drivers.

I was thinking perhaps it'd be a cool system if you got passed from one uber drive to another, so essentially the first uber guy takes you as far as he/she wants to go, ends the ride, takes the 100$ or 200 or whatever that section of the journey would have costed, then when he/she drops you off a new uber ride is called, and that new uber driver will drive you as far as he/she can go, etc etc, what's cool about this is that you technically would never need to stay in a hotel, just take 1 or 2 hour cat naps in each uber and you could be in a car being driven towards NY literally 24 hours a day.
I enjoy the 10+ minute format of vlogs more than the every day uploading!
You guys should totally partner with uber for this and make some kind of road movie documentary about it.
