I'm looking forward to seeing you start selling these replacement packs. I'm curious what it will cost me if the time comes that I need to replace mine. Thanks for your investment in time to keep these on the road. I do love these cars and plan on driving it for as long as I can. Joe
@@evclinicI just purchased a 2019 40kWh Nissan Leaf Battery with 90'000km, having had an accident, and will convert it to a PV battery. Astonishingly the battery is in perfect condition despite the inexisting thermal management. For anyone interested: I do this based on the video from Dala: ua-cam.com/video/XHZWGLzT7gg/v-deo.html (detailed procedure explained in the description)
This is the only "battery conversion" that I would consider - looks to be significantly better than the original 2008 design. I hope you can source a lot of ford batteries as demand might be quite high !
Thank you for your very informative and impressive description of the battery repairing and all the related informations. This is very helpful for all users. Thx a lot!! I ❤it! 😃
Great job you guys🎉. I love the way you think about sustainability. I have recently bought a smart 2014 ED that looks like the one you worked on ( white ans green i believe) and I look forward to the production of the battery pack.
Here in the USA, really liked your Video. Are you going to offer a rebuild kit that you can ship to us Car Restoration people ? I want to be on the LIST.
Very much appreciate your efforts to keep these EV functional. No one should buy a Mercedes product based on their terrible customer service. Besides my Smart EV issue, my friend with diesel van many times had to have it towed at great expense because the software had to be reboot. They would not provide the method to reboot. Only soak money from him.
Stock capacity of 93 modules is 52 Ah. They are marked with 50 Ah for unknown reason. And yes, a German company claims they can swap cells to get double capacity. We will see.
Amazing project guys, well done. Also at the end of the video, if it is true, wow... that is baaad willimg from Merc😢😢 Cheers An owner of a 453 Eq Smart.
Watched all of your videos and they are Amazing. Im very happy to find out, that you are only 400km away :) Wanted to ask, what ev/brand has most robust engines/battery/electronics/best for repairs? Thank you very much for answer
Well done. My Fortwo is going well but it would be nice if you could move your operation to New Zealand so that I can get an upgraded battery from you, when mine runs down. 😉If you do ship batteries, it would be nice to know if this is an option. Also, have you given thought to developing an add-on battery to extend the range. Maybe switching over from the main drive battery to an auxiliary when range gets low. Cheers.
Great video! Is there a cheaper way than Star Diagnosis to read the voltage levels of the single cells. I want to buy a EV Smart and would like to know the state of the cells, however Star Diagnosis is quite expansive...
Maybe I missed it, but what is the solution to the counter issue, other than making sure your 12V battery is always in best shape? Can the counter be disabled?
Hello, would be possible to add extra battery in luggage space? I have 453ED with good battery but have nice source with li-ion poich cell and modules to make it in good price
Where are you all located? I have a smart ED battery pack that is fully discharged (and has been for years). Soon I will test find out the condition of the cells... If the pack doesn't make enough sense for me to keep or try to refurbish it, do you buy packs from across the US? (Never mind, it looks like you are in Croatia) Regardless, do you mind sharing the N82/2 BMS Body connector pinout? In order to test the pack, I'll need to reinstall my BMS (which of course likely needs to be flashed in order to enable normal use, which I won't need) to the pack, and connect it to an ODBII connector to use my arduino BMS Diag to monitor the cell voltages during trickle charging... I just can't find any pinouts of the BMS anywhere! (I no longer have the car, but I have the battery pack, battery harnesses and other parts... I don't have the full body harness)
Hi! Please excuse the basic questions, is the 145km range at highway speed, meaning close to 200km in city traffic? And does the charging time remain unchanged from the original battery’s specs, or is a faster charging option adaptable? Thanks!
So out of curiosity. I am in Austria. How do you deal with it if I request a service? I am unsure where one can find you guys? I hope Hyundais will show up and we will get some insight. I want to get a Hyundai Inster and seeing this gives me hope xD
This is a fantastic project well done :) One question, is the new battery pack fully waterproof like the original ? Here in the UK it is very wet and that would be a concern. Thank you :)
Ok, and now, 6 monts later, what is result? And do you offer already such battery pack, and what will be the price? Questions that many of us are interested....
Driving and still driving. There is minor bug with wiresense length activating overvoltage during balansing on 100%. We will try with revision 2 to solve that, 2nd battery is already under assembly. Cheers
Can you recommend anyone in the USA that can do work on these SmartForTwo cars? I'm experiencing abnormal self discharge of traction battery. In your video it says the cell edges can become oxidized, and if I understood correctly, this could be the cause of self discharge. I don't use my Smart very often...preferring bicycle and tram here in San Francisco. It seems the self discharge is quite high and would prefer to find a solution than to trade car for another problem EV.

Im using a 240v 600watt heater on a ecoflow to heat my car in winter because it Eats the battery when i turn the internal heater on
I recently bought a 2014 smart ED, and I also found that the built in heater reduced the battery by 40% Can you share how you warm the cargo up with the 600 watt heater in more detail? Thx
@@pandasoca3016 Well, he has a portable battery with a 240V inverter and outlet, for at least 600 Watt. Ecoflow , possibly EcoFlow RIVER 2 Pro, comes with 768Wh, 800W sinus, weighs 7,8 kg and costs around 700 Euro. Not sure if 4% extra capacity is worth the hassle.
@@pandasoca3016 I do not know how cold it is at your place, and how warm you want to heat, but a drop to 60% seems way too much. The heater takes 4 kW maximum, the car about 16 kW when driving, so a drop to 80% maybe. When you witch it on, with full power, the predicition is pessimistic, believing you will heat at max all the time. But usually you can reduce the power just to keep it "not cold". Of course, when you are in a traffic jam, then the capacity will mostly be used up by heating, and not for range.
The only way a ForTwo could carry a second battery (175 kg) would be on a trailer. With max. 450 kg allowed, it possibly could tow two of them. The HV wiring and lines for cooling water would be complicated. Daimler has over thousand "new" battery packs in storage, used as energy storage, but they are not sold.
Is it possible to use different software or a battery and controller that does not require such complex system? It seems the EV manufacturers purposely add this level of complexity not so much for battery functionality but to profit from proprietary designs. Using a safer LiFePO4 battery with less complex BMS, along with simplified controller as is done with many Chinese EV seems to be a more environmentally sustainable solution. I for one am considering a gasoline vehicle if I cannot find an EV that can be maintained and repaired at a reasonable cost. The environmental cost of replacing and manufacturing a new EV far outweighs the environmental cost of a few liters of petrol burned on ocassion.
