I tried one years ago. Give it a couple days and the bags may have well been a common sandwich bag. A little research shows how to do things cheaper.
You should include the handheld accessory sealer that is included with some models of the Food Saver brand. We find that if you can dedicate the space on your counter, the sealer is used on a daily basis. First to reseal every plastic bag of chips or cereal etc. Second to reseal these zip type bags.

Fill a large pot with water deep enough to submerge the bag with food in it until fully underwater up to the zipper. Zip close. The pressure underwater will force air from the bag.
If the pump sucks all the air out and you witness this, then it's not the pump's fault that the bag gets air in it, it's the bags fault or the person sealing the bag
I couldn't agree more. To lower the rating of the FoodSaver pump because a bag leaked is a totally unjustified. Also, these devices should not be called 'sealers' as they serve no sealing function whatsoever - they are vacuum pumps. ATK equipment tests are usually well done but occasionally the science is lacking leading to some erroneous conclusions.
I was going to ask how the bags for the vacuum sealers worked with immersion heaters/sous vide cooking. Then I thought about it. If you're able to shell out $100 or more for an immersion heater, then you're probably just going to buy one of those expensive countertop models to go with it.
The bags are perfectly safe for sous vide cooking. I use them all the time with excellent results, both the FoodSaver zipper bags as well as different brands of the rolled bags.
