  • Wilford Johnson’s country-folk singing and songwriting, including such Baha’i-inspired songs as “Wildfire” and “Let’s Try Peace for a While,” leavened many a gathering over the years.
Wilford L. Johnson was born 1934 in Marion, McDowell County east of Asheville, North Carolina, and passed away October 22, 2012 aged 78, in Asheville.
In the early 1970's Wilford had a dream which inspired him to have a career of songwriting and singing and doing less construction work.
Wilford's songs have a Country Music flavor with the universal Bahá'í themes of peace, equality between men and women, love of God etc.
In greater society he became acknowledged as a founding father of the Sourwood Festival, an annual family-oriented, alcohol-free festival of song, dance, arts and crafts in Black Mountain, North Carolina.
Wilford lived a number of years in Ohio, including Kent, Akron and Cincinnati.
Wilford Johnson produced two albums on cassette : 'Wildfire' (1985) and 'Let's Try Peace for a While' (1990's Album). He also released a Single Vinyl, 7", 45 RPM 'Way Back / Let's Try Peace For A While' in 1988.
Based in Asheville, North Carolina is also Mary Davis, a familiar face and voice in the singer/songwriter Mecca of NC.
She has produced five albums of original compositions since 1993.
The three still available on CD are 'Take Me Up', 'Celebrate You', and 'Life Moves'.
Mary is well known and loved locally, nationally, and internationally for her spiritually oriented and emotionally authentic lyrics and the pure, bell-like clarity of her voice.
In 1985 she was invited to Costa Rica to contribute one of her songs "Tahirih" to an international Bahá'í compilation album entitled 'Jewel of the Lotus', music dedicated to the Baha'i House of Worship of India (with Jimmy Seals and Dash Crofts) produced by Jack Lenz.

Mary's travels have included an appearance at the International Peace Conference in San Francisco in 1986, an international tour through Greece and Germany in 1995, and a performance at the "Time For Our Power" Women's Conference in Asheville, NC in 2008.
She appears on music compilations 'Here We Are' and "The Road to Paradise", both collections of songs by regional singer/songwriters.
Mary has been described as a "gifted songwriter with a rare talent", and her voice "one of the most purely melodic voices in existence today" that "speaks the language of the soul" by such renowned musicians as the late country recording artist, Dan Seals; Jazz musician, Marvin 'Doc' Holladay; and Disney recorded, 'Parents Choice' favorite, Red Grammer.
Mary is a "Life Purpose Coach" at Legacy Freedom Treatment Center in Asheville, North Carolina.
