- Sometimes you want the highest of high-fidelity preamplification for the purest sound of the source and the mic you put on it possible. For all other times there's the Universal Audio Solo/610. Not that this preamp muddies or distorts your signal at all. Well it does if you want it to. Never mind that- what I mean to say is: this is the quintessential flattering pre.
The classic desktop Solo/610 preamplifier uses the same circuit as the legendary Bill Putnam-design 610 console. Plugging just about any microphone into this thing and feeding it just about any source will yield instant, classic, musical tones. Watch the video to hear what we're talking about.

+Synthematix My immediate thought. I thought maybe my setting automatically scaled it down so I went to set it to HD and low and behold, these geniuses uploaded a damn sound demo in 240p.
Really not sure if it makes a difference to the SOUND if you upload in 240 or 1080p.

What a great video! I love that you used the same microphones and guitars in your demonstrations of this preamp and the 710 Twin-Finity, and I found it to be a very useful comparison between the two. I kept switching back and forth to inspect the tone on the various sources, and it was VERY helpful. If I may be so bold, I would like to request that you please put the 2-610 through its paces. I am particularly interested in hearing how the EQ effects the tone. Thank you!
I have to agree with you on how good the Ric sounds on this preamp, better than how I've heard it sound on the other preamps you've tested.

How do you think this amp is with rap vocals on a Neumann TLM 103?
So thank you for this first off. Can you consider making it clear what exact settings you are using for each application ie when recording voc which mic or line etc there are so many options as a non audiophile it would be a great help. Thank you
I notice my signal light turns green a lot and I never really notice the amber colour happening at all..
It goes right from green to red. is tat normal?
Should I worry about the signal quality if its green? it still sounds fine..

Just got one today! The shop said to should use a line in cable to my interface, instead of xlr to xlr. Apparently that fully keep benefits of the 610 and doesnt make the interface per amps kick in. Have you got any tips on that please?? Thanks

Hi. i have a question if you let me. i have a very cheap and old audio interface m-audio. and i would like to improve my demo recordings expecially on vocals. would you choose to improve the audio device buying for example an apollo twin or you would consider to buy a preamp like this one matched with my cheap audio interface? which one of these two options makes more sense? thanks
Imo I would probably do the pre-amp. It’s one of the best things you can do to improve your overall sound recording quality hands down. That and maybe a solid mic depending what kind of vocals you have to help compliment it but if it’s between an interface and a pre I would personally recommend the pre amp especially this one or any tube pre. The color and tone is incredible but if you look up “tube pre-amp” you would be surprised at how cheap you can get one and it will honestly still improve your recordings by a mile without breaking the bank!

I have used the solo 610 for a long time. I have a pair of them. Although it kind of sounds bad on electric guitar in this video, it sounds awesome using a 57 on something with more balls than an AC30 (that amp is a very situational beast). My favorite uses for this preamp is on overheads and acoustic guitar. I actually prefer my 610 in those applications over my Great River MENV2, and that is saying A LOT. The snare sound with this thing can be phenomenal as well. The 610 was made for SM57s and dynamic mics in general. Not my favorite vocal pre. This thing is woolyawesome; beware if you're looking for clean.
I’d love to hear some acoustic songs or bands in general that it’s used on, if you can think of any. I’m on the fence about getting one for my home recordings. I play acoustic guitar and sing. Thanks and hope all well!

@@anthonywallace3830 I love the unit. I have recorded my acoustic guitars using a Neumann km184, AKG 453 and an Austrian Audio oc818 and it just made the guitars sound fat and gorgeous. I recorded vocals using the Austrian Audio oc818 and I was floored. I also used it as a DI for bass and electric guitar and the sound is luscious. For years I have used a Focusrite ISA Two that I love but I’m thinking of getting a second 610 .... I was that impressed.
