They would in a court of law have to prove they have been FULLY refurbishing consoles for the past 20 years. If they cannot fully prove themselves with any type of evidence then they are screwed. What someone needs to do is comment asking if they have videos from 10 years ago of the refurbishing process.

What concerns me about the air compressor is whether they know that a moisture filter and regularly draining moisture from the tank are necessary to make sure they aren't blasting water droplets into the consoles. I also hope that is a nozzle that allows you to limit the pressure easily, but the way he's using it in tiny bursts makes me think it's not.
They just got it. DKoldies wouldn't know water damage if the sticker was red.
Not to mention just where is the dust going? There doesn't seem to be a system to extract it.
It looks like a stock nozzle they most likely got in a bundle with that tank, which tells me they don't know what they are doing with the compressor. That tank looks very new, which means they either just replaced their old one (LOL NO), or this is their first air compressor. I would not be surprised if they claim they have had that air compressor for 2+ years, claiming 'we just take care of it' or they just haven't ever used the thing.
Yeah, seems to be a Harbor Freight brand that they've just went to the local store and picked up. Not to knock HF or anything. I guess they are decent products, just not really what they are made to be used for. Doesn't appear that they've added any extra regulators or filters to it.
They could have picked up half a dozen electric blower cleaners for the same price. I have one myself, and it puts about about as much pressure as I'm comfortable with blasting my computer and consoles with.
Air compressors have toolside air pressure regulators built on to 'em, I'm sure DKO doesn't know how to use it right
That refurbishing room was so thrown together last minute, lol. I don't believe for a second that it's always been there.
One thing I noticed, the way John describes the refurbishing room is in the future-tense. "These workstations WILL be where we clean out the systems". I don't know if they've said they're setting up a new area for refurbishing or for just a Freudian slip, but pretty funny nonetheless.

Some comments have informed me that the air compressor is still on and working when it’s not making the loud noise (just not currently compressing air?). I have a pressure washer that still works when it’s turned off - just shoots out water at a lower pressure. So I assumed it was the same type of thing here. Thanks for the clarification
We have a compressor running parts of the pallet wrapper where I work. It's attached to a big air tank. The compressor itself is powered by an electric motor and only runs when the tank is below a certain pressure. Most of the day, it's quiet.
The difference between the compressor and your washer is that your washer doesnt have a pressure tank xD
Air compressors with big old pressure tanks like thagt only turn on when they're building pressure. If there is enough pressure in the tank to achieve the desired PSI the compressor wont turn on until it needs to build up pressure in the tank again. There are actually just tanks with no compressor that you pressurize yourself by filling it with air. Theoretically you could fill one iup with a bike pump (given you had a modified fitting or something)
@@americanman5270 I have one of those that carries about enough to fill up a pair of flat tires or one bigger one. I fill that tank from the big compressor and go inflate them so I don't have to run a long hose or bring the big one out. Pretty cool to have just the little tank of air.
When I was a youngster my dad would let me carry the tank when it was empty and also when it was full and it blew my mind the difference bc he wanted to show me how air has mass and weighs something lol. I could carry the empty one with ease. The full one I had to sort of run with to make it hahaha.

The compressor doesn’t need to be on to reach full PSI. you actually can set the dial to desired PSI. I would imagine for stuff like this it might be set to like 60 psi. Not too light but not too aggressive. Compressors are usually really loud unless you get one that needs to be quiet.
Compressors that size typically kick on when they need to, the tank has a motor that engages at a certain psi and automatically refill (loudly) while you’re using it.
Something tells me theirs doesn’t need to turn on unless filming is on the schedule.

The other great part about this is that it’s very likely there is moisture in the compressor and they are just blowing it all over the boards and consoles. So now you’ll get even more corrosion then if they just left them alone
In previous videos he pointed to a group of tables in the middle of their stock room saying that, that was were they refurbished everything so right there proves this room is brand new lol
Starting to wonder if they just bit off more than they could chew and just send out whatever is just "working" when orders come in
The difference in a car dealership is at least you can inspect the product before you pay, and you can catch all of that stuff if you know what you're looking for. DK is making you trust in their word and so far their word is next to worthless.
Car dealerships are still experts at ripping you off though. You kind of have to be in the know how about it though so that you don't get ripped off.
I personally think car dealerships in alot of cases are scams to.
Having had one of those massive air compressors in the past, I know all too well how easily they can break off fans if you let it blow at full power.
So that definitely feels like something they just bought in a hurry to make it seem like it's always been there.

The refurbishing space Joey pointed the camera at in the facebook live stream, was not the space in this video. It was a space in the middle of the store. Surely if this space had existed during that live stream, it would have been shown to quiet down any disbelievers and nay-sayers. Also, for a space that has always been there (if that is what we are meant to believe), their plastic tables and very minimal set of tools at the tables (to the right of the torn down xbox 360's) looks a little, sorry, a lot underwhelming to qualify as a refurbishing space, especially one that has been refurbishing for 19+ years. I run my own repair shop, and get more tools out on my bench in one day, than their entire workspaces combined. Very staged, to thrown in my opinion, and the tables, tools and compressor, it all looks so new, and unused.
LEAVE IT TO DKFOLDIES to make themselves look like fools.

I honestly think they put the warranty stickers on consoles to scare people from opening the consoles up.
I truly feel like dkoldies scammed everyone from the beginning. They use the term "refurbished" so that they can mark up the console for triple market value. Even though they don't actually refurbish consoles.
Even now, jacob still purchases stuff from them occasionally, and the same is still true. That the consoles look like crap.
They also block people who say any sort of criticisms or whatever that put them in a bad light to, which is not how you take criticism seriously.
For a company that's supposedly been in business for ten years I would be embarrassed at the state of this "facility" if it was my business...this place looks like a disorganized mess!
You gotta wonder if all the high prices they charge isn't reinvested into the buisness.

Great video. truthfully I was trying to disprove the "rumor" of a class action lawsuit and wound up essentially proving it. This whole thing has been absolutely bonkers!
I can say with almost 100% confidence it's new or not used, if you're using a compressor in that scenario you want it to be as quiet as possible.
if that compressor was actually in use it would have been closed off or moved into a closet or even the hallway.

Being a car guy myself, I've always compared their practices to someone that would go to a junkyard and pull parts off of cars and test to be sure it works in the moment and not taking any of those parts apart and replacing anything. Simply spraying degreaser onto the parts, cleaning them up to make them look "good" and selling them to some poor schmuck as a "refurbished" car part at a premium price, just barely cheaper than it was when it was new.

Air compressors have a regulator on them to adjust the output pressure. You can see the two gauges in that video. One gauge shows the tank pressure, the other is for output. You can adjust output from 0-150psi (typical range) very easily.
However, that doesn't appear to have a water separator/moisture filter, so if they aren't emptying their tank regularly, there could be some moisture in the air
This "refurbishment" stream reminds me of how criminals fabricate alibis to avoid being caught. I think the heat is on and they know it.
And everything started just because of their high prices. The very first UA-camr was like, "I wonder if this refurbished console is worth the price." Then opened a console they bought and everything went downhill from that moment.

As an auto mechanic, first, that air compressor is tiny! Second, if they were doing this the whole time , that whole room would be filled with dust after awhile, they would just be blowing dirt into one from another
For what they're using it for, it's probably good enough. Looks like a 20-gallon tank. If they regulated it down to a reasonable pressure, they could get a decent bit of work done before it kicks on.
I've used a 5-gallon compressor for auto work, it wasn't fun. Took me less time to take lug nuts off by hand than with the impact gun! 🤣
You know what's interesting about this new refurbishing room video is that it completely contradicts the livestream from a week or so ago when Joey answered a question about refurbishing by panning the camera to the "crack team" of people cleaning consoles, but that was clearly not the same room as this refurbishing room in this new video. So that just proves they didn't have the process in place until now.
I use one of those eco disc cleaning machines at work, you can press start to add more time onto the cleaning time

I live in Scandinavia so I hadn't even heard of DKOldies until few months ago, and I have to say that Jacob's & RTU's videos are great about that company. Everytime I see a new video about DKO, I need to grab popcorn.

The air compressor has a regulator to control the psi that is released. The the size of the compressor doesn't matter, but if it's bigger you don't have to run it as much which is pretty loud in a setting like that.

An air compressor builds pressure in the tank. When the pressure reaches a certain level after use the motor kicks in pumping the pressure back up. You can also put in an in-line regulator on the air lines as well. Hopefully they drain the water out of the tank or they have a dryer on the output.
This class action on what the definition refurbished entails, I think dkoldies will describe refurbish as blowing out/in consoles
Out of curiosity....is it even a good idea to resurface a bluray? I saw the resurfacing machines mention it. I've heard people say the data is too close to the outer layer so that if it get resurfaced, it's super easy to destroy the data.
The whole thing about "just contact us, we'll make it right" but not everybody opens up their console or even has the special bits to open them to check. So a lot of it is a "let's hope they don't open this as long as it works" mentality.
At about 2:10, are they using a metal brush? I don’t know much about cleaning consoles, is that normal?

It may have been said already but that big blue air tank is a standard air compressor and should have a regulator that changes the pressure.

Speaking from experience, I know dust likes to collect under the disc drive, under the fan shroud and under the hard drive bay. Just blowing it out on the surface isn't gonna do enough. Plus like you mentioned the thermal paste wasn't replaced under the heat sink and fan. You would think if there gonna put the effort in making a video and setting up this room they would do it right and fully disassemble the console and do what needs done to call it "Refurbished" especially at the prices they are asking.
Even Retro Rick bought the 50 disk resurfacer. 😮
Air compressors inherently spit out moisture with the air, wonder if they have an in-line moisture filter, else they are potentially doing damage.
Wow the fact that at about the 8:02 mark for about 2 seconds you can see that they used a couple 360's to level of the tables is impressive. Center far right of the screen they pan into view then quickly out. Was almost an opps I can't show that moment.

The majority of air compressors have very similar pressures regardless of the size of the tank unless you're getting one of those little donut air compressor but most of them are between 110 and 130 PSI that doesn't necessarily mean that's what's coming out of the nozzle All compressors have adjustments for the pressure coming out and the type of nozzle being used makes a difference
Dkoldies saw that pic of a 360 holding a car and felt like it was fine.
I did some rough math with the information provided so far. If the lawsuit goes back to the 2000’s. Dkoldies could be on the hook for 6
million dollars USD 😢
It certainly appears to be a new space and new procedures they're implementing. I hope for everyone's benefit that they make these changes permanent and lasting. It'll be good for the gaming public, it'll be good for the secondary market and good for them.
