I joined her Army in 1976 . Swore an oath of allegiance to her and took the shilling. It has no expiry date. Her armed forces past and present are incredibly proud of our queen.
I am 69. The Queen came to the throne the year before I was born. She was crowned just after I was born. I retired 7 years ago. The Queen has not yet retired. She receives a box of information from our government every day. Some of her cousins on the balcony, many in their 80's are still working, attending public events etc. That is service. @@kevingrant7098 So you are saying that a president, say the US president for example, isn't a proper job. Interesting point of view as BOTH are heads of state. Mind you, the US president only heads ONE country, the Queen is head of FIFTEEN countries AND the commonwealth, so if she doesn't have a job then the US president (or mine for that matter because I live in a republic) certainly don't have jobs. ps: the Queen of the UK (and the country where I grew up) works one h*ll of a lot harder than the president of my country does.

The lady in the uniform is The Princess Royal - Princess Anne, Prince Charles’ sister. She’s won an Olympic gold medal for three day eventing. She’s very hard working, carries out loads of duties. No fuss, just gets on with it.
Princess Anne is the cream of the Royal Family next to the Queen. She is 70 but she is the hardest working Senior Royal in the family but she does her work without fanfare.
She didn't win an Olympic medal, she had a fall in the cross country. The British team pulled out. USA won the individual and gold that time. She did win the gold in the European championships 71 and individual and team silver in 76.

As ex-RAF myself, it's worth noting that the Queen is actually head of all the armed services. When we officially "join up" and take the oath of allegiance, we swear to, "Serve the Queen, her heirs and successors". We do not swear allegiance to the PM, the Government or even to a country.
Not all branches swear an oath of allegiance. The Royal Navy as the Senior Service has never been required to swear allegiance. As an aside that wasn't an RAF flypast. It was a Tri-Service flypast led by......the Royal Navy.
@@junglie5055 The Royal Navy was established by the sovereign's prerogative, so effectively belongs to the Queen already. For that reason, recruits are not required to swear allegiance, but they do sign an attestation or engagement form on entry. The fly past was organised by the RAF and it made sense to put the slower, less capable, participants such as the RN at the front. 😁 The Royal Navy is indeed the Senior Service and used to consist of men of iron manning ships of wood. During her 70 year reign the Queen has met 14 British Prime Ministers and 13 American Presidents! Chances are, unfortunately, you'll not get the chance to ever come over and see this event. This wasn't a simple yearly Birthday event, this was to mark 70 years as the nations Queen. The classic formation of WW2 Lancaster Bomber being escorted by a Spitfire and a Hurricane is one of the great things to witness. The sound is something quite unique as they fly overhead. There was a moment during this event, when they passed overhead, that the Queen pointed up as if the sound brought back a lot of wartime memories. This is Britain at its finest. Trooping of the Colour is an annual event, always takes place on Queen's Birthday Weekend, and after we got a television I would stay up late at night to watch it live every year.
I’m glad you enjoyed watching. The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight gets me and my dad with a tear in our eye every time. When Bomber Command finally got its own beautiful memorial in London, they had a Lancaster bomber fly over and release hundreds of red poppy petals, it was an amazing sight. Also, my home town in the Essex/East London area, had an important RAF air strip, so it’s close to our heart
There is a Bomber Command memorial centre in Lincolnshire where all the names are recorded and you can place a poppy by any name. Very sobering when you see the amount of people lost. Also got a nice room to experience sounds etc and a good selection of revelant gifts. Very moving experience especially when you have a family members name included.

I suspect there will be quite a few who'll still sing "queen" instead of "king" when the national anthem is played; 70-year-old habits are hard to break.
Charlie won’t be able to command the same respect as his mother, that’s a certainty. I’m hoping he’ll provoke a constitutional crisis at some point so we can become a proper democracy, get rid of the Monarchy and elect a head of state of some constitutional use.
Britain really does know how to do it. Having a head of state that everyone can get behind, no matter what political fuck ups are happening at the time, is a brilliant way to keep the nation unified even in trying times. In a speech when she was 21, the then Princess Elizabeth promised to faithfully serve the nation and what was then the Empire, now the Commonwealth. How many people do you know that have not waivered from a promise for 75 years? Regardless of being royalty, she is just a phenomenal person. That is why the reception here is so outstanding. There are now three generations who have known no other monarch. Queen Elizabeth is currently third on the list of longest all time reigns behind King Louis XIV of France (72 years) in the 17th/18th centuries and King Bhumibol of Thailand (70 years) 1946-2016. Queen Elizabeth will pass King Bhumibol in 10 days. I am a proud Brit and my parents were married in Queen Elizabeth's coronation year of 1953. It is a family joke that the four great events of 1953 were Queen Elizabeth's coronation, Sir Edmund Hilary and Tenzing Norgay climbing Mt Everest, Sir Stanley Matthews (the oldest player to play in England's premier division at age 50 in 1965, and having a professional career of 33 years) winning the FA Cup Final (after losses in 1948 and 1951) and my parent's wedding.
Her mother lived to be 101 years old. If the Queen’s mobility issues allow her such a lifespan she’ll fly past King Louis XIV without a doubt. Many pray she takes that globally historic spot. Her mind is sharp, but her physical health is not. Longer life, for her, means more discomfort and pain. Thankfully her family supports her & follows through when her body limits her. The only British monarch I’ve ever known. My God, she’s a tough act to follow!!
@@bills1431 Louis XIV was four years old when he became king so it isn't really a fair comparison. If our queen had become queen at that age, she would now be celebrating something like 92 years on the throne - now that would be a pretty unbreakable record.
The fly-over was stunning. I can't begin to imagine how it must have felt to be standing on the balcony, seeing all the people below and watching the planes fly directly at you and over your head!!!!
I always love the interest and respect Americans (generally!) have for our Monarchy, our traditions and the pomp and ceremony that goes with it. Thank you! The x4 day celebrations were amazing and reduced me to tears more than once. Seeing everyone coming together at this very momentous occasion reinforced the love I have for my country, and how very proud I am to be British.
It started from some time earlier than seventy years.Once Edward V111 had abdicated and George V1 had to take up his burden the two little girls, Elizabeth and Margeret were thrown into the spotlight. I'm 80 and as a child of the times my scrapbooks were filled with pictures of the two little Princesses, as were most of my age group and older. As a war baby, my earliest memories of her are in uniform, or working as a mechanic on army lorries in fatigues. Considering she was not born to be Queen, her service has been incredible. Prime Ministers come and go, but her knowledge and participation in events are a constant, she will be a mine of information to any leader who chooses to avail themselves. Thank you for your non critical appraisal. Very refreshing.
She is the embodiment of what is great about Britain. Duty and service and i wouldnt swap places with her for even a day, she has seen so much change in the world as well.
It started with Trooping of the Colour, a ceremony about 260 years old. Where the military, in dress uniform do formal marching, with military bands. This is done in the barracks on Horse guard. It takes about 2 hours. They march to Buckingham Palace, then the flypast. Obviously there is limited amount of aircraft as it is over central London. The place is packed so I don't think much is seen by spectators. Best watched on TV, unless you can get a ticket at Horse Guards. We are renowned for our pomp and ceremony, no one beats us on that. Well worth watching on UA-cam, the military personnel are all serving officers. There are horses and military salute, believe it was 80 shots fired. BBC do the best coverage.
In New Zealand, the first weekend of June is a long weekend (Monday bank holiday) called Queens Birthday weekend, which was really bought about to break up the winter period, which had no holiday. But trooping the colour is broadcast each year. The Queen is still our head of state, and it’s always nice to have the reminder of our connection. Bless her and long live the Queen.
@@justaname8313 I hope New Zealand doesn’t. If Australia becomes a republic and we still have a Labour government with the Greens, then we will probably follow. How on earth would such a fickle country get on with a sitting President? It would be a mess.
Like most people, I have never known anything else than having our wonderful queen as head of state. This jubilee is most likely to be a one off. I imagine the chances of another Monarch reigning for this long are very remote and not likely in most of our lives. Enjoyed your commentary 🇬🇧❤️🇺🇸
I play in a village band and the day after this we had a flypast of the same Avro Lancaster bomber (one of only two airworthy examples surviving in the world) while doing one of our Jubilee concerts outdoors in Buckinghamshire, did two circles before moving on Eastwards. Always an amazing experience to hear those Merlin engines.
I can remember as a tiny child watching my grandad stand and salute every time God save the queen came on, I'm not a royalist, but she has my up most respect.
The crowds for this day were immense, I tried to get on the Mall but the police closed all the entrances. I can assure anyone watching there were hundreds of thousands in the surrounding streets too. The Fly Past was amazing... A great day to be British and for Her Majesty. I love that lady so much, and even at 96 that smile is worth a billion hoorays.
I do vaguely remember King George VI. When I was nine and at Junior School we were seated on the floor in the school hall and we listened to the King's funeral procession on the radio. There were almost no television sets in those days because they were so expensive. Sixteen months later, when the Coronation took place it was very different. Television sets were cheaper so millions bought them to watch the ceremonies. Anyone with a set invited in neighbours. Many brought food with them so the day became a celebration. There were also street parties. These were mainly for the children. Tables and chairs were brought out of the homes and the children had a wonderful time eating, drinking squash (concentrated fruit drinks diluted to personal taste) and playing games. Wonderful memories of an amazing time.
The Lancaster that flew with the Hurricanes and Spitfires is one of only two that are still air-worthy. The other is located in Hamilton Ontario. The longest reigning monarch in history was Louis XIV of France. He reigned for over 72 years - he became King of France when he was 4 or 5 years old.
@@marie-floreddy667 Louis XIV is considered to be the longest reigning monarch even though he became King as a child. Yes the decisions were made by regents but he was still the king. In England, Henry VI became king at 9 months old. Richard II and Edward VI were both around 9 or 10, both were crowned at those young ages and they had regency councils but they were all still the king. Regardless of their age on the date of their accession, their reign begins on that date.
Here in the UK we also had thousands of street parties where all the neighbours partied together. We decorated our houses with millions of union flags (union jacks). It was very emotional to see. Good save the Queen.
God save the Queen! Congratulations from Ohio up on the shores of Lake Erie. I have been following the Queen since I was a child. I am a woman Vietnam Era Navy WAVE Veteran. So that gives you an idea of my age. Thank you for posting this inspiring video. Queen Elizabeth is truly a remarkable woman.
I’m glad you enjoyed watching the Royals, her family and the people of the UK enjoying the celebrations. Whenever there is a milestone in the Queens (and other immediate royals) lives, there is always pageants, parades etc. The Fly Over is breathtaking and always finishes with the Red Arrows. If my memory serves me correctly, presently (at the date of writing this message) Queen Elizabeth is the longest serving female monarch in history, and the third longest serving monarch in history, in the world! There are two male monarchs who have served longer than QEII, one just a few days more (so she could end up being the second), and the remaining one is a year and days more. The Queen is 96, and is still working, and I would imagine that in itself must be a record, as I do not know anyone who still works at 85, let alone 96. The state retirement age in the UK has recently risen to 67 yrs of age. Her husband, Prince Phillip was 99 when he passed away (this year) and her Mother, Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, (Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon) was 102 back on the early 2,000’s I think. Therefore, the odds for a long life expectancy for the Queen’s children bodes well. If you do get a chance to visit London, I would recommend a trip to the Palace, which is usually open between July and October. Also, there is Madame Tussaud’s which houses the wax works of various famous people, and has some of the costumes too on display (of those people) and gives a timeline of the Royal lineage. Plus there are museum’s, which used to be free to the general public and I assume still are, the Imperial War Museum may be of great interest to you. Good luck on your training and definitely take a look at the other events on UA-cam surrounding the Queens milestones over the year, we tend not to do things by half 😀. All the best.
You haven't "missed it before" - the Q. has official birthdays every year, but this is the only "Platinum Jubilee" - it's the only time she has been Queen for 70 years. They don't do this 4-day event every year! (Though her annual "official birthday' on the anniversary of her coronation, usually involves "Trooping the Colour" in the environs of Buckingham Palace etc - they are the Queen's Guards, after all, and often the Red Arrows too.)
The Queen has had to opt out of the service at St Paul’s Cathedral due to mobility issues. You would really enjoy the Trooping of the Colour as it’s all guardsmen soldiers, mounted cavalry and massed bands. Even a mounted band, with the drums on the horses. The uniforms are something to see - the mounted band uniforms go back to Charles 1, who was king from 1660. Real gold trimmings. Also, there was an 82 gun salute that isn’t on this video, with cannon from WW1. One cannon is the one that fired the first shot in WW1. Good luck wherever you’re going …
Currently she is the third longest serving monarch in world history. In 9 days she will overtake Rama IX of Thailand and move up to second. Louis XIV of France is the longest serving in history at a little over 72 years.
Louis XIV was a baby though and didn't 'rule' the country for another 14 years later [having a 'regency' in place. Actual 'reigning' monarch she will be the longest.
@@anglosaxon5874 That, however, isn't how it works. However, it was always covered with a nice clean tablecloth every day as we also had our meals on it. The people on the balcony are the working royals: the Queen (96), Prince Charles (733), Camilla (75), Princess Anne (71) and her husband Timothy Lawrence; Prince Edward (58), Sophie (57) plus their children; the Duke of Kent (86), Princess Alexandra of Kent (85), Duke of Gloucester (77) and Brigitte (76), Prince William (39), Catherine (40) plus their children. The Royal Air Force is seriously good.
The roar of the aircrafts was magnificant. Some of them are from the second world war, like the Lancaster Bomber from the Battle of Britain, and some of them are working aircrafts. If you're a British solider on the ground or a sailor out at sea and you need help, when you see those flying over you know you're safe.
I didn’t know it was aired in America. I didn’t realise there was this much interest in our Royal Family from the US. It’s wonderful to have our American cousins love the Royal Family as much as we do.
No it hasn’t most people will not be celebrating not everybody likes the royal family I think they are a bunch of freeloaders don’t believe the propaganda Republic all the way
A very nice video. Glad you enjoyed it. Hopefully one day you will make it over for a British celebration, The King died on the 6th February 1952 and I was born 6 days later, so I've only ever known Queen Eliabeth as our monarch & I hope we have her as Queen for some more years yet to come :)
Over one million people in front of the palace gates and trailing down the Mall, overflowing into St James Park. I think Louis will be a pilot like his father one day. Unfortunately my favourite plane was permanently grounded a few years ago...the Vulcan bomber. There is nothing to beat the howl of the Vulcan. You should check it out.
The Vulcan bomber flew over my house on it's farewell flight across England, about 5 years ago, an absolutely breathtaking experience, it shook my house to it's foundations!
I'm 35, so half the age of her reign. I was born in 1986, so watching old films and TV programmes from the 60s and 70s reference the Queen, being Elizabeth II. There are old post boxes around that have been repainted many times and bear her insignia. This country still had post-war rationing when she came to the throne in the 1950s. It becomes mind-blowing the more you think about it. Churchill was PM. Look at the old cars that were around then. Her coronation wasn't even a decade after the end of WW2. It really will be sureal when her reign ends. Not everyone's a fan of Prince Charles, but at least he's also a familiar face.
I love watching airplanes too, since young. The different models of airplanes, the sounds of their engines, and the speed capacity of all the planes, ergo the function of each type of planes all make a fascinating study of them. The sound rumbles that comes out of each of them must make an unforgettable experience of what it's like during The Battle of Britain and World War II.
I joined her Army in 1976 . Swore an oath of allegiance to her and took the shilling. It has no expiry date. Her armed forces past and present are incredibly proud of our queen.
Love it: " took the shilling ... it has no expiry date." Thanks for guys like you.

I know as a military man you understand this. Excellent video.

Absolutely love our Queen. She really is amazing. The mother and grandmother of our nation and the commonwealth.
The mother of the nation definitely.
Utter crap. The mother of a dysfunctional parasitic freeloading family
I hate her
From the U.S. and I love your Queen too! I wish she was ours also.
Get rid of them freeloading Germans
I play in a village band and the day after this we had a flypast of the same Avro Lancaster bomber (one of only two airworthy examples surviving in the world) while doing one of our Jubilee concerts outdoors in Buckinghamshire, did two circles before moving on Eastwards. Always an amazing experience to hear those Merlin engines.
I am so pleased that you enjoyed that. I remember as a five year old watching her coronation on what was then very early television.
I can remember as a tiny child watching my grandad stand and salute every time God save the queen came on, I'm not a royalist, but she has my up most respect.
What do you respect her for keeping her mouth shut and taking the money
@@kevingrant7098she was still working every day up until a few days before her death, aged 96! She deserves respect for 70+ years of duty and service.
Sorry Jo MC ! Louis XIV didn't have the longest reign he was but a kid. Others, Regent n Lords and their likes decided for him.
@@marie-floreddy667 he was the longest serving monarch in world history at 72 years. Simple google search will verify it
That Lancaster flew over my work place a couple of weekends ago. The sound of those Merlin Engines are just incredible.
Here in the UK we also had thousands of street parties where all the neighbours partied together. We decorated our houses with millions of union flags (union jacks). It was very emotional to see. Good save the Queen.
God save the Queen.
Hey glad you enjoyed watching that display...just had 4 days of celebrations here in London...God bless our wonderful Queen 🇬🇧 👑 ❤
Yes, it's expensive to go to England, but if crazy traveling youtubers can make it, you can. Just plan ahead and enjoy it.
Not really, it’s just expensive flying to and from the North and South American peninsula’s to anywhere else in the world as it’s so far away

Flying those planes with the No 70 takes a awful lot of skill
The highlights for me were the Typhoon Jets in the “70” formation and the Red Arrows with the Red, White and Blue smoke.
*Charles II - Charles I was the one whose head was chopped off
@@JaneAustenAteMyCat oops! I knew that - A levels - don’t remember writing Charles 1!
@@lindylou7853 easily done 😆
Charles II dated his reign from 1649, the year his father had been executed. He reigned, 'de facto' from 1660.
Despite him being 5 years old when he became King and having a regency in place, Louis XIV was still King and his reign started when his father died. That is how the history books record it hemce why, for another 9 days at least, the Queen is the third longest reigning monarch in world history.
Also King Sobuzha of Swaziland was king for 82 years, though he was only a small child when he became king, and people can quibble because Swaziland was only fully independent for the last 14 years…

I am always impressed and - can I say proud - of every young American soldier, even though I am not American. Proud young patriots is what they are. Stay safe young man. Bless you from South Africa.
I echo your thoughts. I remember the blackouts and the sirens; one of warning of danger and the “all clear” when the danger was passed and my mum telling me that if I saw a plane flying over and something dropped out of it to run in and get under the iron table we had in our living room throughout the war. However, it was always covered with a nice clean tablecloth every day as we also had our meals on it. The Lancaster Bomber and the Spitfires and Hurricanes really brought it all back, as well as memories of all the very young men who went up night after night to stop the Luftwaffe. So my dear, take care of yourself you seem to be a delightful young man.

As a Londoner I’m really glad you liked it 👍👍👍
When the 2nd world war broke out, they wanted the Royal family to move to a safer place. The Queens father refused. He believed there place was with the rest of the people of London. Even during the blitz.
Her Majesty was also an ambulance driver during the second world war.
It was the Queen mother who, when moving the family out of the UK in wartime was first suggested, said - the girls won't go without me and I won't go without the King and the King's not going.

That was fun. I was standing right under that flypast and the noise was tremendous. The sound of the Spitfires, Hurricanes and the Lancaster is very characteristic - instantly recognisable.
Sad thing is we will never see anything like this again regarding the Queen . Years ago a friend of mine lived in Hampton near London and it was on the flight path of Concorde and because it took off from Heathrow it was still low and the sight and amazing sound was so special .

Saw Concorde flying over my house on the last flight. Everyone came outside - and for some reason we were all waving although nobody else could see us. The sound was just amazing but not nearly as good as the sound of the engines from the Royal Memorial flight - the Lancaster has passed over once but the spitfires have flown by a couple of times, quite low but that wing shape is unique. It’s just like the old WW2 films. Just great.
I love this reaction video, I've been too busy to watch any of the jubilee so it's my first time watching it as well lol, I used to work at Heathrow and my yard was directly under one of the flight paths, when Concorde used to abort landing it used to power up and open it's burners directly above us, the ground would start shaking and your chest would vibrate so much it would start to hurt 😀
The WWII aircraft, all powered by Rolls-Royce Merlin engines. The RR Merlin was the engine thst won the war - so good it was used in the P51 Mustang and other US aircraft.
Prince Charles is going to be the oldest king ever!
My step son was on board one of the C130s flying over he is an Air load master
The roar of the aircrafts was magnificant. Some of them are from the second world war, like the Lancaster Bomber from the Battle of Britain, and some of them are working aircrafts. If you're a British solider on the ground or a sailor out at sea and you need help, when you see those flying over you know you're safe.
I didn’t know it was aired in America. I didn’t realise there was this much interest in our Royal Family from the US. It’s wonderful to have our American cousins love the Royal Family as much as we do.

No it hasn’t most people will not be celebrating not everybody likes the royal family I think they are a bunch of freeloaders don’t believe the propaganda Republic all the way
Definitely not the whole country. All that pomp is just another way of funnelling money to the capital.
Harrier is my love ❤️
Thanks for showing this & your positive contribution.
May god bless Her Majesty the Queen 💐 All love and respect from New Zealand 🇳🇿❤️ 🇬🇧
