Very nice! The Capitol Limited operates Chicago-Cleveland-Pittsburgh-Washington DC and intermediate points and used these type Heritage cars until the 1990s when Superliner equipment began protecting the Capitol Limited trains #29 and #30.
No York for me either… us west coast guys tend to get left out. But that’s besides the point. I also ordered a couple F40PH but in Phase IV, seems like they should arrive in time for the holidays. Again, great video showcasing those amazing 21” cars, Colby. Enjoy them!
@@PriestBrosLines That would be a nice birthday surprise for me, but unfortunately I don't see them shipping until mid-December. Regardless, I can't wait to run them with my superliners.
Great set! I may try to get it before it’s gone. Side note, its very easy to remove the skirting from the ribbed cars for a more prototypical appearance. I used kadees on my Penn Central set, they get around 072 fine with kadees
Wow, the detail! I'm not wild about Lionel and damn near everyone in the industry having moved to production in China, but I have to say - the level of detail FAR surpasses any of the stuff that was made domestically. Now I wonder if we'll see AI come to model train passenger cars in the future, with little people figurines that move around.
The kinematic couplers are definitely not my favorite but they work. I have a 21” SP dome car from the most recent run and it runs fine on my O-60 curves but occasionally the couplers pop open on their own.
They are phase 3 paint which started in 1976. The catalog says this is a heritage fleet so the cars were bought from other rail lines and painted Amtrak.
The two things I don't like about this set is missing marker lights at the car ends and the Side Skirts in between the trucks. As a heritage set, each car should have marker lights at the ends and no side Skirts in between the trucks for a set marketed as " Heritage Fleet".
@@PriestBrosLines 😆 NP you would usually see the capital around 6am in union Station here in Pittsburgh. Late as usual 🙄 but that's NS fault 100% of the time
Yup they do. There are no mechanical issues but they would look better on O81 or better. The box says they can handle O54 but I think it would look silly.
That is true although these are more model trains than toy trains but there certainly are liberties that we take in the O scale world. Like 3 rails. Very expensive toys. Thanks for watching. I really like the innovation of the Kinematic couplers.
What a beautiful Amtrak set! Fantastic review! 👍
Those are some sweet cars! As a trackman from Amtrak , I approve! Great video as well 😊🚂💨
Thank you. Glad to hear praise from a real railroad man
Nice set thanks for sharing and best of luck with the cars.
Thanks for watching. The cars worked out great. No rubbing or overhang issues.
Great video - good information - really love the smooth body cars!
Glad you like them. I like how they have a mixture of both smooth and ribbed.
Beautiful set though, love to see it!

Thank you Stephen. I always enjoy your input. I'm really hoping for the F40PH's before Thanksgiving.

Ok, how do you make an accurate straight cut of the skirting?
@@prrhorseshoecurve use an exact o knife. I ordered the station sounds diner. I’ll do a video when it arrives

Pretty much everything is made in China or Vietnam.

My favorite part about them is that the couplers are mounted to the body and not the trucks.
That’s a sharp set. Are they early coaches? They look a lot like what’d we take from the central coast up to Eugene OR many moons ago 😬

Good points
The capital runs from DC to Chicago. The empire builder runs from Chicago to Seattle.
Well then this train had a slight detour to the southwest. Lol. Thanks for the info.

What part of SoCal? I’m in San Diego and frequent train stores in OC (mile post 38) and LA
I'm in Riverside County. Main train place by me is Dynamic Hobbies in Hemet. I have been to Milepost 38 and Arnie's many times. They are great.

I don't like kadee couplers, leave them be they are toy trains a lot of folks can't deal w that fact, those are very cool cars
