It seems like the boy and girl are romantically interested in one another, as well as being either childhood friends or siblings (foster or otherwise...) and made a promise to always be together when they were very young. The boy develops or always had a terminal illness, and starts getting sicker as time goes on, with the medications only slowing the disease's progress. The girl stays by his side, but he starts to feel like he is keeping her from moving forward and enjoying life because not only can he not engage in many activities with her anymore, but the illness causes him pain and makes him behave erratically. At some point his illness degenerates to the point that he has to be hospitalized, and he starts to feel like if he is going to die, it may as well be by his own hand and choice. His friend/sister interrupts one suicide attempts, and he tells her that he won't make a second, but he gets news that his illness has gotten worse the next day, and makes a second attempt that succeeds. The girl finds out and is heartbroken.Depending on if Angel of Death is in the same series/is the other side of this, the girl makes a deal with an "Angel" who may or may not have been a demon or simply a neutral being. Her 'wish' was that there situations were reversed- which the being interprets to bring the boy back to 'life' as a member of the same race he is in a timeline where the girl was the one who was ill and committed suicide, with the boy having memories of the timeline in which he was the one who was ill.
Probably utterly wrong, but that is how I interpreted it.
I feel like this song is about suicide, though I could be wrong. He's debating whether to commit suicide, but he's held back by this girl. He wants to go back to the old days and redo everything. He says 'his third birthday in a year' as if he's reliving his entire life in his head. This girl is present everywhere. He says dreaming is scary, which I assume means he made some wrong choices and just doesn't want to do it anymore. 'It'll be fine if I become the bad guy, right?' as though he's about to do something that will hurt her. 'It's bedtime for the hated.' I just feel like there's so many quotes that support this theory in the song. The cruel god who destroyed his world, so that he may not survive in it any longer. I think he says 'just let me say goodbye' to the girl, though. Most of the song is aimed at the cruel god, but the girl is told to say goodbye, because he doesn't want to hurt her, but feels like he has to. Idk, just my opinion. Sorry if I just put a dark twist on everything.
I say your right on the money, I do believe the girl represents his/her innocent childhood though.
i like Gumi's high pitched voice here, it seems to give the song a certain feeling of desperation and pent up emotion :)

I love how Gumi can change how high her voice is. I mean, it's like she can do a song Miku would do, and still do other songs as well.
To everyone who doesn't like Gumi's high pitched voice: Every producer is unique in their use of vocaloids, and if this means they'd like to make them sing in a different range or tune them differently, then so be it. It's a lovely song with a good message and I think it's cool to hear someone make use of Gumi's high range.
Gumi sounded like me when trying to sing high noted vocaloid songs...the PV is goddamn beautiful....
I dunno why, but the 8-bit beat at the beggining reminds me to SnK's opening chorus...
I think that it is a simple message; Gumi is sick in the hospital, probably with cancer, and she dreams about the days that she wasn't sick, but knows that this sickness will be the end of her. She hates the god that wrote her off as dead, and her family and friends flock around her to comfort her, but she knows it is no use. In the end, she dies.
So in the end the girl finds him dead since he was debating whether he should kill himself or not and wanting to forget all the good memories and thoughts so that he can suicide. By the end of the song he was successful...

Oh my gosh! I've never heard Gumi used like this!!! I like it!
My interpretation is that Gumi wants to go back to her childhood, to the happy days. It's all she thinks about, but no matter what, she'll never be able to regain those days. It's grievous for her. She knows how much she could love the world, and at the same time, how much she hates it now. The more she reminisces, the more hopeless she feels for continuing to believe in a past that is gone.

So what I understand is that a girl is depressed and has been bullied throughout her life. She looks back to the past and sees that even her childhood was filled with bad times. So she inflicts pain to herself. Overtime, her depression gets worse and she attempts suicide. She fails though and her friend IA, tries to persuade her to stay alive. For a time this works until finally, she can't keep it up anymore and kills herself.

Actually, not. Verdigris is the common name for a green pigment obtained through the application of acetic acid to copper. It gives copper a greenish color.

Okay. I can SORT of see your point. But take this into mind... What if the artist does not own Miku? What is they didn't want to use Miku for this for certain reasons? It seems like they were pushing the boundaries of GUMI's voice that most producers leave alone, which to me is pretty amazing. I almost did not think it was GUMI at first because it was changed so well.

I like this song, but gosh, did they really have to make Gumi's voice so high? I think she could have comfortably sung it an octave lower- in fact, I think that's how it was originally sang and the it was pitched up an octave. Which sounds kinda squeaky.

I think that the person who made the song was going for something different than sounding like the normal GUMI voice. If you ask me, it sounds a little more childish and high pitched than GUMI's original voice. Almost all songs never go out of the pitch zones and I admire that the artist did so.
