    To set things strait, there is epigraphic and underwater archaeological evidence for human sacrifice . All you have to do is actually put effort into researching the material concerning the ancient Maya. As an undergraduate student who plans on continuing into a Master's program, I can assure you that there is proof.

    I think the Mayan civilization does indeed rival ancient Egypt, and perhaps even surpases it in terms of achievements in astronomy and related disciplines. But I think the Maya remain a relatively obscure civilization, partly because greater resources have been dedicated to studiying other ancient civs like Ancient Egypt. Also the Maya did't have contact with other major civs that kept records that we can refference, like we can with Rome, Greece & Egypt for example.

    Yes, because trying to document the culture and help uncover many buried sites now swallowed by the forest is very similar to slaughtering and destroying much of the ancient meso-american culture all in the name of Christ. We posses the same limited view because much of the culture has been lost (hence why many people are attempting to decipher and learn more).

    yea no there is plenty of evidence ranging from their own writings to statues and paintings. the Human being was extremely important in Mesoamerican culture as they lacked any other large pack animal (just as the Bull was important to Mediterranean culture) and as such offering a human was the ultimate show of reverence for life and thanking the gods.

    • @victorcano2202
      @victorcano2202 9 років тому +1

      +Veronica Love First search the mesoamerican chronology in wikipedia to understand how it works and how historians divide the periods of mesoamerican history. They know that the Maya (the maya people) have lived in that region of central america and yucatan for thousands of years, what they explain in this documentary is that in erlier historiography, historians though that the Maya (though they lived there for centuries) began building a complex civilization till the period called the classical period, but new foundings have found that their complex civilization began earlier, so it is not pre maya, because the mayas are the ones that have lived there even before the development of a civilization, so it would be called instead pre classical maya period.

    How did the world people allow mankind to be destroyed by ignorance? If everyone who has lived could have been allowed to be all that they could be, maybe we would now have eternal life.

    yea. idk wat it is with shrooms and other psychadelics, but i always get mad mesoamerican, and really mayan looking visuals from them, their architects and artists had to have been tripping a lot back then. i also get a lot of celtic, and maybe norse knot kinda symbos too, a neat cultural mismatch of stuff really from shrooms, as well as many representations of the Mandelbrot set

    • @jcortez1314
      @jcortez1314 7 років тому +2

      hanstubb no. Jade is found in the Americas and probably in other parts of the world. It’s not a plant or animal that evolved in a certain place isolated from the rest of the world. Gold , silver, emeralds things of that nature are found all over. Whether or not the people who live in an area with those things uses them is up to them.

    Based on what? They were a tribe who moved south, got lucky and found a selection of thousand year old abandoned Mayan cities to colonise, sacrificed themselves to Mayan Gods for a few hundred years, then were obliterated by the Spanish. What exactly were they the best at?

    After all that study, work, and schooling, archaeologist came in with the nonsense that the maya´s drawing are symbolizing wars, and actions or no relevance, right, it is like saying that the windows in a cathedral is for allow the light to enter the church.

    Luckily some real Maya's still know the Secrets and the Sacred. National Geographic are the new conquistadores and the scientists the "legal looters". Like the Spanish conquistadores and the missionaries you exhibit the same limited 3D view missing the multidimensionality of the Maya culture. Sacrifices were only practiced when the culture was already in decay.

    • @jcortez1314
      @jcortez1314 7 років тому

      Delight13 unfortunately that’s not true. The Mayans at contact with Europeans and their descendants today don’t know many secrets. A lot of their religious beliefs a were merged with Christian beliefs and passed down. In a way many things do survive, but much more was intentionally destroyed in colonial times by catholic friars who believed the Mayan and other mesoamerican beliefs and history were either the work of the devil or not valuable and burned. Archeologists AND modern day Mayans helped decode the Mayan glyphs which could have been done previously.

      Say the descendants of the conqueror who slaughtered men women and children at wounded knee, who pilfered, enslaved, slaughtered with one hand on the bible and a bloody sword or gun in the other! Said the descendants of the conqueror who burnt people at the stake in New England in the name of Christianity!! Said the descendants of the conqueror who chopped off thousands of heads in France over politics and religion!! The plan was to make us look like undeserving savages so u wouldn't be judged for the biggest human genocide in the history of mankind!! We did not go around sacrificing all day long!! There are stories of canabalism, human sacrifice in every continent!! Hypocrites!!!
