The artifacts are quite deliberate - this isn't because of the tape. It's a noise oscillator.

I just watched an episode of Cabinet of Curiosities. (The one Panos Cosmatos directed) in it a character mentions an Italian artist Massimo Contini. So I looked that up and found a singer with pretty normal adult contemporary soft pop? I dunno what you call it. I'm not trying to mock it. I was just surprised, I didn't think someone with 30-ish subs would get mentioned in this filmella, yeah that's what I'm calling it. Anyway, I went from that to this somehow, I have no idea how. It was like a serendipitous algorithm thing. And this actually sounds like something Cosmatos would definitely reference. My head is spinning a bit.

It was! When I got mine a while ago they were still quite decently priced, don‘t know if that‘s changed now. But it‘s definitely worth it!

I've heard it many times trying to put it in words but (thankfully) it doesn't work.
This album (half way through it) sounds like a mellowed out NIN album. Maybe not a mellowed out NIN album, a NIN album without the vocals. Trent could lay vocals on this whole thing and slap a NIN number on it and call it a day. Just about. Maybe just the first five songs sound like NIN. Sounds great though.
