It may be helpful to do some "hold" drills with those ducks to get him comfortable with keeping a bird in mouth, followed by "walking-hold" drills.
I have a golden retriever who has a very similar personality. Excited to pursue the bird, but was unsure about picking them up.
Judge is NOT afraid of the birds! If he was, he would not pursue them at all. He is just passive. Try cutting the wing off of a duck and just playing a fun game of fetch with the wing. You can also force fetch him gently with the wing. Just place it in his mouth and praise him for holding it.
When it comes to the next hunt, bring your training whistle. Something about tweeting your whistle while clapping your hands and walking away from your dog really spurs their natural retrieving instinct. Just keeping sending him to the bird and then turning your back and walking away from Judge until he brings the duck with him.
This worked for my dog after about 6 retrieves!
Love your new pond..I am happy you had fun on your new pond
Great video bob! love to see your pond working! be safe out there!
Love the video you inspire me.
What a sweet dog! I brought a wood duck home this past Saturday and was throwing in backyard for my French Brittany, and she was doing the same thing. She had live bird training before she was one year old, but not enough to take hunting with me (she's three now). She'll point and focus on anything (birds, squirrels, deer, moles, etc.), but I couldn't believe she didn't want to fetch up this dead bird. She used to go crazy fetching a couple dead quail I kept in the freezer, but I don't know what happened to her now. Oh well...still man's best friend!
Poor guy. He seems to have a very sweet personality. Similar to mine. Gets offended when you correct him. hahaha. Hope he keeps progressing for you. I never even though about he fact that the birds could scare them. I've been worried about gun conditioning mine never thought about the birds themselves fighting back.
I love the videos man keep them coming 💯💯💯
It's great to see Judge hunting with you!!!
Always how shooting at those early morning teal goes 😭
Great video again, just wanted to thank you for a video you did years ago, it was a tutorial on calling and how to use a goose call, my nephew and I watched it and it worked wonders, we were two birds away from limiting out yesterday here in Ohio
Ive been waiting for Judge to show back up!!
Electrical tape duck/goose wings to his bumpers. Do some short throws in the yard nothing serious and don’t worry about mistakes keep it exciting and fun
New idea for next year…. Dux waders
Nice one; he is getting there- just takes time.
Good dog , he is such a sweet boy!
Awesome video as usual boss!
12/25/23,Merry Christmas , how’s Fred and your family doing!!!! Large flocks of snows/blues heading out of South Dakota today(Christmas day!!!!!!
Bob put a dead duck in a pair of tights, i used to do it with pigeons in the uk with my dog. He soon got used to the bird, don't take the tights off to quick.
I just bought my first duck dog this last month and this is literally my worst nightmare, 6k+ in a dog and it won’t grab a duck , hopefully you get it figured out
He never liked live birds from the very first pigeon hunt I watched
nice bobby
Nice 💯❤
i'm reloading bismuth BB,1,3,5 and TSS 2,5 and 7.5 in summer.
Wow, the trolls were out for this one.
the same thing happened to my dog. how he started back was my buddies dog and him were playing and the other dog was playing with b the duck and he started back
That was a donkey... he was laughing at you for missing those shots hahaha
Man I need some luck an maybe a better area. I’ve been out ducking hunting in Indiana an I haven’t seen but one duck
By the way, what is happening with Fred?
bobby you need to get chesapeake, there tuffy dogs
Can you please go duck hunting with flair daddy
Where is the decoys man?
Live in Missouri and is slow as can be. Nothing is pushing ducks down.
Hey what gun is that ?
what happened to fred
Need some assistance from a professional k-9 trainer - they’ll tell you if judge is salvageable
Heÿ please pin love the vids
how old is judge?
Old enough to retire from duck hunting. Clearly doesnt have the drive as a devent retriever.
Force fetch him with a bird
He's a house dog! Needs training is all.
Lol
Have you tried hunting him with Fred ? Maybe he sees Fred get one , maybe that will get him going !
The dog doesn't have it, clearly retrieving birds not bred in him.
@@toddschmadl4870 that’s to nad
Bad
I believe you are confusing that dog with to much directions.
No he’s not, all he was saying was fetch and hold. The dog is literally a trained duck dog by professionals, he knows what it means. You can tell he’s just timid of the birds since he had a bad experience.
Does not look like your dog has ever trained with live or dead ducks
Need a better dog or trainer, get a gsp your dog seems very good but very stubborn
lol you got a glorified house dog….spent all that money on a dud
Unfortunately you don’t seem to understand that you need to learn how to re introduce yourself and Judge to retrieve birds, since seem to make excuses for not retrieving. YOU SHOULD TAKE THE TIME before the season to spend some time with the trainer, you will be amazed at the difference it will make.
This guy doesn’t understand A LOT when it’s comes to anything waterfowl hunting including dogs
Y’all shut up
Wash that dog out! He is NOT going to make a gun dog. Go to a hunt test and see what real gun dogs do, your dogs for a guide suck, sorry go buy a field trial washout and have a dog that has drive to get the job done, ya can't put hunt into them, that has to be bred in and that dog does not have it, he will make a fine pet.
That’s also what I said he needs a gsp or chessie his dog seems very stubborn and not well trained.
@@WaterfowlMasterI’d rather hunt with this rag of a dog then deal with a Chesapeake😂
Bird dog but got spooked by a bird on his first goose hunt
He explained in the beginning his dog had a bad experience with a goose. I think it’s great that he’s working his dog by giving him more exposure to see if he can rebound from it. 99% of people wouldn’t have even shared this problem, so much respect to Bobby for being transparent and honest about it.
