Nicely done. Thank you. (this one may be my first HF. I was thinking a used 857 or 897, but they are more expensive and obviously used. They also look more complicated.) This was very helpful.
I thought I knew enough how to operate the FT-891 well. This video definitely added more to my knowledge! Like how you use the VFO A/B Function knob to rapidly move to different bands, and CLA also functions to show you the default values of the individual menus! Thank you for sharing!! Great Job! 73 ~N4GDX
Over all I like this radio but there is a few things that just make me mad and would like them to fix it.. 1. Mode menu, when selecting SSB mode "ask if you want USB or LSB" for faster switching. or just remove "SSB" and add in separate LSB USB trying to fined it in the Sub menu stinks why would they have it in the Submenu. it makes it harder to switch to USB when running FT8 and other digital modes. 1.5 when changing the Mode or the BAND using the VFO to select between them is horrible! Change it to the multi fashion knob and keep it up till you press the multi fashion knob. 2. With autotunner enabled I get a "WAIT" over the freq display so i have to go and disable the Autotunner when tuning around the band. it's Varey distracting it makes scanning the band hard or going to a freq to meetup on. 3. When adjusting the squelch, the pop up screen stays up till you hit a button. have it disappear after 3 sec. 4. the power submenu is confusing ok SSB power and AM power and FM power But what is HF power??? there is some other things that are dumb and make no sense and i wish they would fix them. but I'm at work and cant think of it thanks for your video..
I'm a new ham here in Brussels Belgium. Just bought a 891 + FC50 this weekend "used" (barely) Today i put up a Sigma Euro-comm lw40(meter) EFLW . So I'm just listening for the moment, no TX until i master both the unit and the antenna. Your video here truely helped me. First to do a total reset. Then to go through things like you showed. Excellent ! Thanks ON3VCF
Thank you for doing this!! The regular user manual is almost useless. (No Index?!?!?) I thought I’d be okay because I’ve had an ‘817ND for several years. Nope! Adding to my agitation was knowing I had an old Kenwood TS-530S sitting around: no menus in menus in menus. Again, many thanks! de WB3CFN 😊
This is probably the most organized and easy to navigate video I have seen. Very useful information. I just received my new FT-891 and have some things to learn. Thanks for the information.
We have in the war in Croatia this station. Its amazing. Few days to manual and go. This is amazing milion frekvency and he hunt Serbian JNA station easy. We have one stationar(this)and 10-12 mobile like mobitel today. Thanks Yaesu for many night with you and Serbian soldier who talk everything🤣🤣he dont know that we listen to it. Howdy Frank.. This is a good video.. Thank you. I've never learned enough about my wonderful 891. I only use it for activating POGA.. I see I have you in my log for SEVEN activations on the same day.. plus one park you activated
@@frankwc0o Yep, quite a surprise .. Here I watch your video.. First time watching one of yours.. Make a comment.. And the surprise was.. I got you on 20m at 0100Z. Double whammy. You contacted me while I was on a trip from S.OR back home last March about seven times.. looks like they were all P2P's
Hey dude do I want to start diving into the qrp side of the 891. So what’s the difference between HF SSB POWER and HF POWER. If I want run the radio at 15 watts do I adjust both those settings or one or the other and why? 73’s
That is a good question. I place both on 5 to be sure it's transmitting at 5 watts. But, if you read it literally, you would think the HF SSB would override the HF Power. If you want a definite answer, you might want to contact Yaesu's tech support, they should have a better answer.
Why couldn't they put colors you can adjust colors in that radio you can make it blue or orange or yellow I have no idea what I didn't do that they did it with all their other radios that color is terrible I do not like that color scheme it's terrible it's terrible but yes you know that I'm pissed off
You’re right. Especially if you know how to use the radio. My fool around and show all these other things that people know. Why even call it beginners guide. That was dumb.
Well, even a beginner ought to be able to at least get the thing reset without jumping through 3 different items like that for no reason. Reset it and continue.@@frankwc0o
This is the best instruction video I have ever seen. You have done a great job.
Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Hey Yaesu, please just hire this guy to explain all your products. Thanks.
Thank YOU. Just got my Yaesu FT 891 and a new Tech Ham, thank you for showing us how to set this piece of equipment up.
Thanks I had a older radio and this was a little intimidating until I watched your video.
Glad I could help
This is an amazing video. I am using it daily. Thank you Tremendously!!
Very well done! Just got a new FT 891 great overview. Thank you.

SSB, by convention is LSB on 40 m and below, and USB above it.

Invaluable info since the manual reads like gobbledygook....
How many memories for frequencies is there also can display change colour cheeers
I heard that this is "non-functional" without a speaker, antenna, and an antenna tuner. Is this correct?

HF power is for FM & CW only.
@@harrybatt998 Good to know. Thanks for the info.
15 watts is not QRP in any mode just FYI.It’s 10 watts or less on SSB & 5 watts in CW & Digital Modes.
Why couldn't they put colors you can adjust colors in that radio you can make it blue or orange or yellow I have no idea what I didn't do that they did it with all their other radios that color is terrible I do not like that color scheme it's terrible it's terrible but yes you know that I'm pissed off
I'm sure it's a great radio, but there are way too many buttons to push and menu items to scroll thru...................
at last a fair revew
Hi will it do 11 m CBS’s bands and hf marine
30 kHz - 56 MHz 1.8 MHz - 54 MHz (Specified performance, Amateur bands only)
Thanks
You screwed around too much at the beginning. Why are you jumping through all the items? Just reset the thing and move on!
