@Golden Software Hi, I wasnt able to find how to import new coordinate system which doesnt exist in the Surfer originally, but always some error is present. I am not sure which file format should be and if I copy the data from for example GIS or the data I find on the internet, it doesnt work.
I have a problem with the Algerian settings. They do not appear in the projectd systems regional national. What should I do? Please tell me about the alternative settings for the zone and UTM. This is the site. 34°39'15.3"N 3°13'55.4"E
Hello Abderrazak, That location falls into UTM Zone 31N, to apply that coordinate system to your map or layer please follow the instructions below. If you know the EPSG code for the coordinate system that you want to use you can also search using that. If you need additional assistance, have more questions, or would like suggestions on how to determine what UTM zone you are in please email us at support@goldensoftware.com. 1. In the Contents window select your map or layer. 2. In the Properties window select the [Coordinate System] tab 3. Click the [Change] button to open the 'Assign Coordinate System' window. 4. In the search box paste "UTM Zone 31N" and press ENTER. 5. Expand the 'Projected Systems', 'UTM', 'Africa', and 'Algeria' sections to locate the 'Nord Sahara 1959 / UTM zone 31N' coordinate system. 6. Select that coordinate system and click [OK] Thanks, Golden Software
@@GoldenSoftware Ok in the Source Coordinate System I put Nord Sahara 1959 / UTM zone 31N And in the Target Coordinate System I put WGS84 UTM zone 31N Does that look good? Thank you.
The Source Coordinate System is the coordinate system associated with a map layer, and should be the same as what your data or map is using. The Target Coordinate System is the coordinate system associated with the entire map and is how you want it displayed. Individual map layers can use different source coordinate systems, but the entire map is displayed in the target coordinate system. Hello, how can i move an object (Ellipse) according to coordinate system .. in other word, i want to moved the single object in a map by giving the X and Y in the object dialog .. thank you
Hello Ali, Thank you for submitting your question. It is not currently possible to enter the XY coordinates to specify a location for a point, polyline, or polygon object directly in the Contents or Properties window in Surfer. Our Didger application can currently do this, please take a look at our free trial version to see if it will fit your needs: www.goldensoftware.com/products/didger/trial. I have added a vote to our suggestion file, upon your behalf, for future versions of Surfer to also have this type of functionality. If you know the XY coordinates of all of the vertices for your polygon, you can create a BLN file in Surfer that can be used to create a base map from More details on the BLN format can be found here: surferhelp.goldensoftware.com/surfer.htm#t=subsys%2Fsubsys_gsibln_hid_gsibln_filedesc.htm%3Frhhlterm%3DBLN%26rhsyns%3D%2520. My country has UTM WGS84 coordinates in the format 279320E 9885977N Zone 37M. This is not available in surfer. I see only zones with suffix S and N on surfer. What is this M zone?
Hi Herman, As far as I'm aware the WGS84 UTM coordinate systems only have north and south zones. Kenya is located in WGS84 / UTM zone 37S. If the coordinates for your data do not locate correctly when assigned to the WGS84 / UTM zone 37S coordiante system, please provide more information about the data that you're using and the source coordinate system. Thanks! Katie Yoder Golden Software Support
@@GoldenSoftware Katie, thanks for the feedback. When you use google earth on the universal transverse mercator coordinates setting and hover over southern Kenya e.g. Nairobi area, the coordinates will read 37M Easting Northing. I understand that Africa has its own UTM zones which place Kenya at 36N, 36M, 37N and 37M. These zones are different from the 37N and 37S in surfer. My challenge is being able to use the UTM coordinates on surfer without having to convert them into lat/long. I will watch the surfer webinar and see if it will help on this matter too.
Hi Herman, Surfer zones 37N and 37S are equivalent to Zones 37N and 37M. Likewise 36N and 36S are equivalent to 36N and 36M. Surfer uses the N and S zones as qualifiers for whether the UTM zone is north or south of the equator. Since the equator runs through the middle of Kenya, it has both N and S zones. Other UTM naming conventions give each UTM latitude band a unique letter, like M. These can be mapped to either north or south zones, but the zones themselves are equivalent. Thanks, Golden Software
@@GoldenSoftware I will verify that in the program. I think in my frantic efforts to get 37M working I swapped M for N and S but it didn't work. I will first study the differences between the two systems. Thank you for the support!
