I absolutely agree! When the film that’s attached to an anime has actual narrative weight and doesn’t feel like a meaningless side quest that ends up doing nothing for the larger story, there is a far greater reason to actually go see it, opposed to it being merely something for diehard fans to eat up while waiting for another season. Awesome video! 🔥

Man, I just watched your Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad video and then this one. Keep doing these videos! I'm shocked I haven't run across you before considering I'm literally your target audience.
I was just discussing Chainsaw Man ( I think it was that one) getting a theatrical release instead of going directly into season 2. I actually really hate it. It's not because I wouldn't like to have the movie. I just hate that in my small town the chances of me being able to see it are slim. I saw The Boy and the Heron on the last day it was showing, which was the only day I had available, and I hate to think I wouldn't be able to see the theatrical releases of these movies and have to spend however long it takes to be released on Crunchy Roll dodging spoilers for it. I also feel, like you, that when there is a canonical movie in a series, I tend to not watch the show at all. This isn't as big of an issue as it used to be, but I used to just skip entire series because I had to figure out where to find the movie before starting it.
It will be interesting to see how things progress since Anime is so much more popular now than it used to be and has opened up to a bigger audience. I'm hoping there is even easier access to this shows and movies in the future. Some are still hard to find on streaming platforms, and the collections can be incredibly expensive.

Thank you for the kind words, and good luck trying to see the Chainsaw Man movie when it comes to theaters! It’s adapting a great arc, for what it’s worth.

13:37 Sure, but imo, movies were already a thing. Especially for 12 episodes tv anime + movie ending types. I think that’s been a thing since at least Madoka Magica. Made in Abyss, Monogatari movies, Violet Evergarden, K On!, Steins; Gate movies, NGNL, Chuunibyou, Bunny Girl Senpai, Tanya The Evil (if the movie ever releases), etc. (Okay, looking at the list, I guess, they’re not always 12 episode anime. Sometimes they were double cour or got sequels later. My memory of them was often 1 short season usually 12 episodes + a movie for the end.) Although, there are longer anime again now so, I think we’re coming out of the 12 episode tv anime + movie ending trend. Even if the movies persist, anime is returning to multiple seasons of potential content to be adapted. Though, yeah, Mugen Train likely only encouraged that practice. That particular trend.
16:12 I get that. Though, movies aren’t new for shounen battle titles either. Naruto, One Piece, and others have several movies. So does Detective Conan. Conan is not a battle series, but it is part of a shonen magazine. These movies are not always canon or even good (well, not on the same level as Mugen Train or Madoka Rebellion, and a couple stand out others. Typically, they are just more entries into an already popular franchise. They just exist alongside the tv anime. Except Conan, those movies are some of the best moments in the franchise.

If we are talking about Hollywood generally, then I don't think it's only about money or canon contents. I mean anime is the only medium that is able to compete against Hollywood, while their budget are significantly lower. Mugen Ressha-hen movie's budget was around 15 million usd, while Everything, Everywhere All at Once was around 25 million and even that was considered low budget. If I remember correctly the average movie budget in Hollywood in 2020 was around 70 million usd. While a whole anime season is around 2-3 million usd. And despite the "lack" of budget, anime are pretty popular as a medium and actually can compete against Hollywood.
So I think what is more important to talk about when we are talking how popular anime is, is the actual content. In this year I've read many comments about how people are fed up with Hollywood because they can't write a good female lead and because of that, they turned to anime, where in this year, we had Frieren and Kusuriya no Hitorigoto. And this is what I think is the important part. Anime as a medium is that good, because the creative qualities (scripts, directing etc) are significantly better on average.
Personally I think there's also a cultural difference. On the west people are more interested in the "vibe" or mood of a show. So they hype up a big fight for example and they try to sell the movie with that hype in the west. While in an anime, they try to create a coherent story with well-written characters and they try to make you invested in the show, in the characters. And selling a story with its characters works better than selling it with a single big plot point that people have seen number of times.
Hollywood is not as good as writing these stories.
As a side note, I personally don't find it that problematic what ufotable did with the recent KnY movie. I mean I could more easily support a studio that I like instead of paying for the streaming services.

And now the upcoming demon slayer biggest war arc is about to put Hollywood out of business 😂

It might! Or it might splinter that series’ audience. Hard to say which way it will go.

@TrackingShots I have faith in ufotable especially if it ends up having better quality then mugen train. Just in case you never ready the manga. All you need to know is things get absolutely crazy from here on out. Think the last fight in mugen train x100. Yeah

For this video, I dipped into the manga a bit and read up to around the first 10 or so chapters of this arc. I put it down because it feels like the visuals will really shine in the anime, so I am hoping you are right!
