the show does not care about historically accuracy and i'm living for it. the most wonderfully inaccurate part of the show for me was izzy singing 'la vie on rose'.
For me it's them including Zheng Yi Sao despite the fact that the actual, very real pirate Zheng Yi Sao wouldn't be born until another ~6 decades after the show takes place
@@CatchThesePaws I mean, the overall vibe is right but you would never find these specific pieces of clothing in that time. The pirate clothing is just generic pirate costuming, black beard is dresses like a modern biker, and Mary doesn’t look like she’s from the 1700s at all. The costumes are definitely not right. I can’t speak much for the sets but most of the actual buildings in the show are just shacks which are pretty simple regardless of time period.
"I'm just doin it for the lolz" literally kills me every time, when I first heard that line I had to rewind and play it again bc I did not believe my ears
i think “well sussed” is using the fairly old use of “suss” as a verb meaning figure out, as in “suss out”, as opposed to the modern use of “sus.” i have definitely read the phrase “well sussed” in an old book before. but it’s much more common in britain
I never watched this show, so I'm assuming this is a bunch of time travelers that got stuck in Pirate era and are trying their best to disguise themselves as pirates
Great idea! But no, the show is about a gentleman named Stede Bonnet who decides to live his dream of becoming a pirate, except he and his crew are not very good at it. But there is Blackbeard to spice it up! Very good show, I do recommend, 😊
My personal favorite historical inaccuracy is that Zheng is even present, considering she was actually born in 1775, almost half a century after the events of the show.
This…this whole thing is set in a time that predates New Zealand, therefore it predates the Kiwi accent. I remember watching the first episode and thinking “you want me to believe that this man, this flightless bird from a southern pacific island with no natural predators so it has devolved the ability to fly, is an 18th century pirate? K…”
To be fair, we don’t actually know what English accents sounded like 300 years ago and there was a lot more different accents in the UK since travel was less common then. For all we know the current kiwi accent could have been a common English accent 300 years ago.
As someone studying theater you don't know how insanely meticulous is the historical research for this type of historical period shows, so the fact that everything is so out of it, it's so on porpoise its hilarious
The reason I love this choice of language in the show is that it reminds me of another brilliant comedy - Blackadder, which was also a 'historical' comedy with fantastically inappropriate lingo and era-inaccurate jokes that somehow work even better because of it. Long live OFMD!! (and if you've never checked out Blackadder, give it a shot, although it is unfortunately not as fabulously queer as OFMD).
Stede was asked Jack in front of the whole crew something along the lines of "Interesting pirating stories there mate, but where's your crew?". Jack started crying and proceeded to talk about how they mutinied against him.

Yeah but one thing the show does get pretty right is the costumes and sets! It’s a fun dichotomy, I love it

This is why every video that goes "this show is historically inaccurate" is hilariously self unaware.
no way someone has done that lol.
@@deliri0um you have no idea.

This here, it's a ship and it's a spaceship
This line lives rent-free in my head
It's a safe spaceship.
"Girl how are you" is accurate 18th century lingo idk wtf you are on about. Zheng Yi Sao herself invented it then like the fucking queen she is.
look all the individual words probably maybe existed then! all we needed was a visionary to put them together
“Living rent-free in your head” is the one that got me and my sisters truly screaming
You forgot "well sussed!" Which was the first one that got me cackling
That one took me out! 😂

I know it's impossible to fit it all in but Buttons shouting "YES QUEEN" took me OUT
Girl, how are you? is my favorite line in the entire show.
Gay math is singing a song from the 1940s on a pirate ship in 1717
And Pinocchio wasn’t written yet lol
Gay math is Izzy Hands being 50 years old because they just *needed* to have Con play him (irl he was like 16)

yes
This will be the plot twist revealed in season 3, I'm telling you now
@@haileymullican335Stede Bonnet* Steve 😂 thanks, that one made me laugh
It’s comedy, it’s not supposed to be realistic
“doing it for the lols” is the only one that took me out of it hahaha
“rent free” was the one that when I was watching that made me go “OHHH my god they’re really just leanin’ into it huh”
Literally one of my favourite scenes is the one with Frenchie's Captain Bonnet fanfiction. It's just so good.
"for the lolz" in s2 made me acrually cackle out loud so much that I had to pause the show
I liked when they talked about doggy heaven.
I love the the repeated "antiques" from the same year the show takes place in.
My personal favorite historical inaccuracy is that Zheng is even present, considering she was actually born in 1775, almost half a century after the events of the show.
Half a century off ain't half bad, inaccurately speaking.
I haven’t watched s2 yet and Jim’s new hair fucking decked me in the jaw…vico Ortiz the legend you are
Watch it watch it watch it!
I need to watch this show
yeah, you do
It's the best
You absolutely do
Yes
100%
I was waiting for someone to make this and it did not disappoint
not to mention olu's crocs

Lucius carrying this one on his shoulders.
This and The Great are my favorite educational resources
no backsies!!
That's my favorite, especially Stede's little hand wave. 🤣
This isn't all, don't even get me started on the wardrobe lol
crocs
Safety pins lol
You missed Fang's Correctomundo! 😢😅 Loved this, though 😁💜🏳️🌈🏴☠️

Don’t forget the dude and bro
I was waiting for someone make this video 😂
F THAT THEY'RE GONE
What is happening
girl, how are you
wait is this just chronological or did you arrange the clips so they soudn like conversations at some points
what was the ‘pretty bitch question’ again? i remember replaying him saying that so much but i can’t remember the context
Stede was asked Jack in front of the whole crew something along the lines of "Interesting pirating stories there mate, but where's your crew?". Jack started crying and proceeded to talk about how they mutinied against him.
@@aria1347 THANKS!! now i remember it again
