- Here are 5 bourbons that I don't think get enough attention. These are bottles that haven't made any of my other lists for whatever reason and honestly, I forgot how good some of these are. They're all excellent bottles and all have tremendous value.

Good list. Love the James E Pepper and my new riff sb store pick I have. Also, have you seen or tried the 7 year smooth ambler?
Damn, I missed that news! I haven’t seen them in stores yet, but looks like they’ll replace all the NAS old scouts currently on the shelf. They used to carry a 7 year age statement so nice to see them bring it back. Thanks for pointing that out!
@@averagejoeswhiskeyStumbled upon a Filibuster Single Barrel today in N Ga, never saw this brand before here at all. just had a pour….Good stuff! Mine looks like a 4 grain, 111.1 proof. Also interesting to see the label say wheated bourbon and also small batch. But it’s tasty nonetheless, thanks for the tip!
@@keithsmith4944 glad you like it! And glad they’re popping up outside of VA. I think the 5 year BiB has better distribution but those single barrels are really solid.
Many states outside of Kentucky are killing it in the whiskey industry. Unfortunately some have very limited distribution and are only known to the people around them. So great show and promoting the brands near you. Again you can expect to pay a bit more for a craft product and I’m okay with that. Enjoy!!
Always trying to support my state! Seelbach’s has really changed the craft game but with sooo many brands out there, and with prices higher than ever, I think it’s tough for consumers to find brands they like.
I like the way you can go with the flow and change things up. Good job.
Informative vid, as usual
Very nice video Joe. I have never heard of those Virginia distilleries. I will keep an eye out for them. The only Virginia distillery I have tried is Virginia Distilling Courage & Conviction Cuvee Cask Single Malt. A very fine pour. James E. Pepper and Smooth Amber I have heard of but never tried. As for the New Riff Single Barrel, I am enjoying right now. Cheers!
Cheers! Virginia Distilling is great in the American single malt space. Just a heads up, if you come across the VA brands I mentioned, they do put out some bottles that aren’t as good, so stick to the ones in the video. I can vouch for those. Thanks for watching!
I enjoyed Reservoir 100 proof bourbon as well.
I have to try it again, it’s been a few years and I know they do some interesting stuff. But from what I remember I thought it was pretty good.
Great video! I really enjoy UA-camrs that highlight craft distilleries. I’m going to be adding most of your suggestions to my collection as soon as I can. Also I would really enjoy a video about House of the Dragon and whiskey!!
Hell yea dude! Thank you for my favorite comment ever!
thanks for the heads up on the Ragged Branch Cowboy Cut i never knew it existed!
I swear dude, it really blew me away! Somewhat unique flavor profile, might not be for everyone but I absolutely love it.
I picked up a Smooth Amber Founders cask strength their own distillate. Looking forward to opening.
Let me know how it is, bet it’s good!
Great video, and bonus as a Virginian to hear what is good out there locally. Haha, not sure what house of the dragon is!
Glad it was helpful! You should def check out house of the dragon
I share your opinion of James Pepper, hands down my favorite. Don't hear many talk about it which may be a good thing LOL. Blade and Bow is another I like very much
Man, I have to go back to Blade and Bow, I’ve had a bottle sitting on my shelf for like 3 years. I remember thinking it was quality whiskey but there was something about it I didn’t love. But palettes evolve, maybe I’ll have a pour tonight. I do love their story with the solera process and the traces of Stitzel-Weller in each bottle.
@@averagejoeswhiskey Hope you find it as good as I do
I bought the New Riff single barrel bourbon and rye at the same time a short time ago and the rye is almost gone. Says a lot.
Man, New Riff is killing it! Enjoy!
That Ragged Branch Cowboy looks interesting. I bought a RB wheated BIB in March and it had the worst taste in bourbon I have ever tasted. Heavy notes of moldy hay and barnyard smells. I wonder if it was a bottling issue or something. The bottle wasn't inexpensive and I am reluctant to drop that kind of $ again on another potential drain pour. Being in SC, we don't get much of a chance for tastings of RB but I'd be excited to try other bottles from them. I'm traveling through VA a few times per year and maybe I will plan a distillery visit for samples and see. Much appreated video.
Agree on the regular ragged branch stuff, haven’t had anything worth the price. But the cowboy cut is next level. Unique flavor profile, no off notes, a great bottle. Hope the rest of their stuff trends in this direction.
Your idea of value whiskey is much higher priced than mine.
I think you can have value whiskey at any price point.
If you had to pick the Cowboy Cut or the Filibuster which one would you choose?
I'd probably go Cowboy Cut if I had to choose.
So New Riff is 95%? 😝🤪
lol thanks for pointing that out. I meant to say sixty FIVE percent corn, 30% rye and 5% malted barley. Math is hard. 🤷♂️
