You do it in a REALLY EXCELLENT way. But can't you please stop yourself from recording it! Our professors from India are prescribing your videos and it takes longg to watch. 🥺
Brilliant lecture sir. I am a thirteen year old schoolboy feom India interested in literature and your scholarly lectures are truly a treasure. Vt siluae follis pronos mutantur in annos, prima cadunt ita uerborum uetus interit aetas et iuuenum ritu florent modo nata uigentque - Horace, Ars Poetica (60-63) Thank you sir. God bless you!
Professor, your example of the pendulum between "art for art's sake" and art as a form of social justice was one of the most compelling and sensible explanations with which I've ever come across to wrap my head around the crisis that has been consuming and undermining the humanities in general. Thank you. Your lessons are a treasure trove and a balm to me.
Sir I have learned a great deal of knowledge from you especially in the fields of poetry and criticism. You're doing a great job... I'm living on this far away corner of the world and I'm a big fan of you here. If I were to chose a teacher for myself, it will be definitely you sir.❣️
Your lectures have not just revived my interest in Literature but also made me look at it with newer perspectives. It takes only a minute to write a thanks but means a lot from my side. Thanks a lot for such videos sir!
@@LitProf Professor why do you hate the word "giftedness" (your thoughts on this), Are you convinced of the fact that anybody can learn anything? And those who claim having god gifted talents, they lie?

This is the first time I’ve ever listened to a lecture from a Christian university. It’s both immediately apparent that you probably represent a more accurate portrayal of the opinions of the ancient Greeks and also why there aren’t any good modern conservative artists
@@LitProf Because all your opinions about art are about the regulation of artistic expression. It's like creating a ton of economic regulations and expecting to have a thriving economy.
Regulation of expression is the wrong way of seeing it, as if water flowed where you wanted without conduits. The Greeks had a sense that literary form and technique was essential to obtain the best expression. The Romans followed the Greeks, and the Christians used those same forms but adapted them to Christian doctrine.
@@LitProf I mean call it what you want. The fact remains that you're enforcing what's acceptable expression and what's not, and to do that you're relying on your faith in a strict doctrine that was created by someone who probably would've murdered you just for saying the square root of 2 is irrational and the heavens move in ellipses.
hello, it was an extremely helpful lecture. I'm truly grateful to you. if it's not too much trouble could you please tell what translation did you use while taking this up? the one I have in my course is a tad bit difficult to discern, yours seem so much easier. thank youuuu, and once again, you're amazing sir!
Thanks Karizma. Glad you found it helpful. I used the Norton Anthology for this. Not sure off hand who the translator is, but I thought it read pretty well.
isn't the environment what we know better to be "creation"; and "the whole creation groans together and travails in pain together until now", Romans 8: 22. Man's major contribution to the creation is sin; and therefore man is never going to be the solution. We await Christ as Redeemer even for nature. Meantime a Christian should be as good a steward as he can be of the natural world.

The ancient Greeks and Romans? I think you would find the former debated about everything.
