- Welcome to Episode 4 of a 5 part series going over basic solid modeling in Plasticity. In each episode we are going to dive into basic modeling tools and topics using the 5th episode to practice and model a sci-fi power cell.
If you are looking to purchase plasticity go to Plasticity.xyz and use the code LEAD10 for 10% off the Indie or Studio license price!
Here is what we are going to cover in each episode:
Episode 1: Starting Shapes. Using primitives and curves to create solid bodies to begin your designs.
Episode 2: Edges and Offsets. Learn how to work with offsetting edges and faces, imprint curves, and use the IsoParam tool
Episode 3: Patterns. Learn how to duplicate and array your designs so speed up repeating portions without repeating all the worked.
Episode 4: Adding Details. Using the tools we have learned and introducing some new tools like Hollow and Thicken to add realistic details to models.
Episode 5: Modeling Practice. Apply the tools we have learned and model something.
Repetition is key when learning a new software and not getting bogged down with just picks and clicks. Take the time to explore the basic tools by just making shapes before committing to a project. Take detours as each episode we will start from scratch.
Along the way we will be using a lot of shortcuts. There is an unofficial user site with some documentation for plasticity here: plasticity-uno...
But the shortcuts may be out of date as versions change. Below is a list of the more common and helpful commands but remember "F" on the keyboard brings up the search.

One through four have been great! Can't wait to watch the last one.
Awesome, thanks for watching!
I tried to follow doing your rectangular array at 10:55, and it was impossible to do. It would only go sideways, it would not repeat vertically, even when I dragged and clicked on the z-axis. Was there some shortcut key you were clicking?
No shortcuts sadly. Doing the arrays, especially in an isometric view is tricky. If there is a reference like a line/curve or a body like a cylinder it helps. You can try hitting the shortcuts for the Z axis by hitting Z and see if that helps.
@@LearnEverythingAboutDesign YES, I did try that too. What I figured out is that you have to make two selections. A starting point on the z axis and an ending point on the Z axis. That is how i got it to work for me. I rewatch that process you did over and over again, and saw that you didn’t have to do that. Maybe an update thing. I would have done a short video, but UA-cam doesn’t allow you to post URL’s in the thread.
Thanks man, nice lessons.
I wonder if surface modeling lessons in plasticity will come in the future?
thanx again alot..
I have a whole series on modeling a car with surfaces in plasticity :) ua-cam.com/play/PLBDfGh8A8kXXglEZA2MGsn-U8z2pNCPny.html
Because versions changed after my last round of "quick start" modeling in v 1.2 and 1.3 this solid model content is aimed at a refresh with a new spin. The surface model series for the car should still be up to date.
thanks, It's a new but very cool and professional program. Unfortunately, there are no good tutorials. These are great and presented in a very accessible way. please describe all features in each video.
Thanks! Do you mean you want more of a help file? Check out Pixel Fondue. He is doing a lot of sub 1min videos on individual features if you are looking for some short content on just one thing like say a loft.

hI, when I try to do thicken face, it seems to extrudes each face individually. the lines on the side doesn't merge. can someone please help with issue?
hmm, are the 2 different bodies in the list on the left side? You could try to join them together with J.
Great video - I have extruded from object - and when I try to imprint a curve to the extruded element - i won't let me select the seperated face? Any ideas or how to fix this?
hmm, im not sure. I just did a few tests on my end and was able to without issues. Can you share the file over email? support@caducator.com
Amazing Tool & Great lesson Matt . Thanks 👏
My pleasure!
