This is one of the most beautiful songs and melodies ever written and will continue to stand the test of time, Although it was written well before my time it still remains one of my favourites and was my foster parents favourite too. This beautiful song is sung by the iconic Miss Peggy Lee who brings such style and warmth to this legendary song. Wonderful
Just now getting to see her videos..thanks someone for these walks down years ago..was about 9 when I began watching her..now at 82 still think she's fantastic
This is one of those songs that transcends time. For many of our parents or grandparents, this tune transports them right back to the 40's when so many of our boys were leaving for the war and Americans stood united.
It is so difficult to lose a parent, but we all do, except in rare cases, children are supposed to outlive parents but I think it's especially hard for a girl to lose her father, that is such a special relationship, I know I lost my father many years ago, but I still miss him and see him in my memory all the time.
A wonderful song to hear on tis 76th Anniversary of the largest land battle of WWII, "The Battle of the Bulge" fought during the worst winter in Europe in twenty years. To those veterans living and dead...you are not forgotten . Thank you for all you did to help rid the world of the Nazi threat to freedom. Millions live in Freedom today due to your sacrifices, including the Germans. Thank you.
Lost my best friend in H.S. a couple of days ago. Had not seen him for twenty years. But he was a good friend back then, seems we don't have friends like that anymore. I will be seeing you Mike, go well my friend.
This beautiful, terribly profound song was written before WWII, but it became so poignant with that era! So many young men left their loves to go off to war, and, very sadly, many did not come back to renew that love; many women really suffered for that too. All Wars break someone's heart, no matter if they're world wars or just in some far-off country. Loss from War is terrible but this song helped a lot of people keep hoping! Peggy Lee has been one of my favorite vocalists for a very long time.
My father was. At the battle of te bulge with the 101st airborne and my uncle was with pattongoing to rescue them. They’re gone now but better people I have never Met.
First time to.listen to Peggy Lee...such a beautiful rendition...I.remember this was played Michael Douglas and Melanie Griffith's movie Shining Through..twas a war -love story...
I love this song it was my husbands and mine song i played it at his funeral last december and i play it every day to remember him and how i miss him so much.thanks peggy xxx
profoundly beautiful and yet so sad. i can't help but to think of all our young soldiers that never came back.....but how lucky we were to have peggy lee gracing our airwaves.....
Reminds me of my mom and dad when they were so young and in love …they’re both gone…I miss them…but their love through memories and their song…still lives on💕
I love this beautiful song, which became a theme song for all the boys going off to war during WWII, many to never return and, thankfully, many who did! So many, yet so few that returned, bless all of our soldiers who gave their lives and those who fought and made it back home. They have our honor and respect, as do our military now also. This poignant song has meant so much to so many over the years, and still does!
Before my darling Dad passed myself and my four Daughters went to see him and as we were leaving he called us back and told us to listen to this song and think of him when he had gone i cry every time i hear it
I lost my dad almost 7 years ago. I miss him every day! He loved this music. Peggy Lee, Mario Lanza, Jonny Ray, Nat Cole, and all the others. I grew up listening to this and continue to school myself in all the wonderful music. Sorry for your loss! But we will keep them alive by sharing this lovely music. ♥️♥️
Had a very nice dream with Peggy when I was just barely old enough to write .... Woke up and at breakfast kept writing her name over and over again on a piece of paper: Peggy Lee Peggy Lee Peggy Lee ... still remember that over some sixty-five years later !
This is by far the best version I have ever heard. Very lovely and melancholic. This song makes it very visual description what it is like to miss someone, especially when you walk through places that we used to visit.
many years ago I had the good fortune to see Peggy at the Festival Hall and as usual she always ended with this great song no-one sings it better, a classic!
It was a little voice, with a limited range, and she worked miracles with it, not the perfection of Jo Stafford, but emotionally true and delivered in that straightforward way she always had.
Found Peggy Lee in 1958 while working for WPTF Radio in Raleigh and for Sixty Years now She continues to rank #1 among all of the many vocalists I've known. Finally in the mid 80's She had a two week engagement in Orlando with Walt Disney World. and on three separate events I was in her audience. It was there that she walked in like an angel and in what appeared to be no effort whatsoever, belted out fourteen of her top hits in a row. On my last visit, accompanying me were six family members all seated there in Disney;s Top of the World Dinner Theater. Unbelievabily, our booth was located on the performance floor, only approximately twelve feet from where she sang. After her concert She politely strolled over, extended her hand for me to kiss and then threw a smooch to my eight year old daughter and patter her on the head, stating "Oh I Love You".. Surely if Miss Lee's not up in Heaven . . . Then I don't wanna go there !
I'll be seeing you. Such a beautiful song. For all the people who have commented and lost someone dear, my sincerest condolences.Try to remember death isn't forever. It's just for the here and now. We'll be reunited with our loved ones again when it's time. Hang in there you all. God bless and grant you all peace.
This one I love, but I can't listen to it as it was the last song played at my dad's funeral. I know I'll be seeing him at some point, but it still makes me teary eyed. I miss this kind of music. Funny how I appreciate it more and more as the years go by.
This timeless heart-warming love song performed by very beautiful and classy Peggy Lee is one of the best versions I've enjoyed on UA-cam. Thanks so much for this wonderful video! With love from Canada, Evy
Singer, Songwriter and Actress. Best remembered for songs "Fever," "Lover," "Big Spender," and a host of other songs. Born Norma Dolores Egstrom, her mother died when she was 4, and her father, a railroad station agent, remarried, but later abandoned the new family, leaving Peggy with her stepmother, who physically abused her. Peggy would develop her singing as a means of escape, and at age 14, she began singing at local PTA meetings for 50 cents a night. While singing as a teenager on a local radio station in Fargo, the program director suggested she change her name to Peggy Lee. Her big break came when Benny Goodman hired her to sing with his orchestra after hearing her perform. She quickly shot to stardom with the song, "Why Don't You Do Right?" and she went on to record such songs as "Fever," "Lover", "Golden Earrings" and "Is that all there is?" Much of her singing was with Big Bands, and her 1989 album, "Peggy Sings the Blues" was nominated for a Grammy. A prolific songwriter, she wrote for such great musicians as Duke Ellington, Johnny Mercer, and Quincy Jones. In 1990, she won the Pied Piper Award, from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. Trying her hand at acting in the late 1940s with "Midnight Serenade" (1947), she won an Academy Award nomination for her role as the hard-drinking singer, Rose, in "Pete Kelly's Blues" (1955). She also voiced the vocals for four characters in the Disney film "Lady and the Tramp" (1955), including: Darling, Peg, and the two Siamese Cats, Si and Am, but these were virtually her last movies. Thirty-six years later, she won $2.3 million from Disney over royalties from the Videocassette sales of the movie, as her contract with Disney had barred the sale of movie "transcriptions" without her consent. Her later years were marked with lawsuits and medical ailments. In 1976, she had a near-fatal fall, a second serious fall in 1987, and in early 1985, underwent four angioplasties (surgery in which a balloon is used to open clogged arteries in her heart), and later double-bypass heart surgery. Confined to a wheelchair in the late-1980s, by the 1990s, she was suffering from diabetes and another stroke. She was married four times, each time ending in divorce, and had one child, a daughter, Nicki, with her first husband, guitarist David Barbour. She died in 2002 of a heart attack. She was inducted into the Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame in 1992. She has a rose, "the Peggy Lee," named for her; it is pink with a touch of peach color.
Only few songs have surpassed the originals and definitely this cover by Miss Peggy Lee is the best version that have been recorded. The ritardando "intro" followed by the subtle orchestra playing with the beautiful voice of the singer is perfect. Thank you for sharing this song.
I’ve always loved this song. My mother suffered occupation in WW2 so it’s very emotional for me. Beautiful version but the late Dame Vera Lynn owns this song. Makes me cry when I hear it. 💕

I agree Kim.
@@horaciocapanelli-soto4710 me too!
I hope you're familiar with No Stafford's version too
Agree Kim, we we’re obviously born out of our time.
This is about as close to perfection as you'll hear. Lovely, simple vocal and a beautifully subdued arrangement. Just beautiful.
This song always make me cry a little. Peggy Lee’s version was the first version I ever heard, so I will forever think of it as her song.

What would our boys think if they could see what has happened to our country?
Peggy Lee’s version is very comforting and one of the best ever made!
What a beautiful rendition by Peggy Lee.
My died died two weeks ago and this was my mom and dad’s song. He was a Navy vet from WWII. God bless him and my mom who survives him at 92.
Sorry for your hard time.
The greatest generation without a doubt. 92 ??? The rest of us won't make it that far. Condolences and prayers

Patricia, Don't doubt it. They are still seeing each other.
One of my dad's favorite singers. He was born 1921 and a veteran of WWII. I love her, too!
Beautiful lyrics, melody and voice equals romance! So lovely! ❤️

A perfect rendition of voice, music and words..A complete and absolute pleasure to listen to. Thank you.
Marvellous voice and she sing as an Angel a song which goes deep in our heart. Voice and song will stay forever.
Peggy, you’re not allowed to sing like that. It’s just more than one can bear. Such poetry.
No one quite captures my ear and heart like Peggy Lee.

What a waste...Honda, Volkswagon, Sony......all that blood....makes you wonder
what those boys would say now....song will live forever.
The music reminds me my father He's gone so long but so present
My grandpa would always sing this song as he was about to do something dangerous in his plane, thinking of my grandma
I always believed in Peggy Lee’s philosophical music. Especially “Is that all there is?”.
Reminds me of my mom and dad when they were so young and in love …they’re both gone…I miss them…but their love through memories and their song…still lives on💕
That's a tear jerker if I ever heard one. Amazing.
It takes me to my childhood and my mother who always sang to me.

This song reminds me of the great sacrifice our troops made during WWII.
Edouard Millan and their families..💖
Yes. Those men died for nothing. Except counterfeit "Israel".
After dad passed, mom would play this. While he was away in WWII their song was Stardust by Nat King Cole. They don't make music like these anymore.
This is the best version of this very beautiful song. Thanks so much for the upload!

2) BUT RAIN
3) I'LL BE SEEING YOU
4) CRY ME A RIVER
