  • Abhinaya: Yahi Madhava (Geeta Govinda)
Choreographed by: Padma Vibhusan Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra
    Dancer Guru Jyoti Rout
This abhinaya is from the Geeta Govind, a book of Sanskrit Verses composed by saint and poet Jaya Deva. This song describes the intense inner feelings of Radha after her long night awaiting Krishna - who arrives with all the visual signs of having just been making love with another gopi (cowherdess). Radha feels betrayed, hurt, jealous, angry, frustrated, disappointed and deep sadness with Krishna.
Radha says, “Oh Krisna, your eyes are red and tired from being awake all night enjoying passion and love making with another Gopi. Please go. Go to her who takes away your sadness and brings love to your heart. I don’t want to hear your excuses and lies.
Oh Krishna, your beautiful rosy lips are darkened by kissing somebodies beautiful decorated eyes. Please go away. Your words are cutting my heart.
Oh Krishna, your body is scratched by sharp nails from intensely vigorous love making - as if it’s a beautiful carving on marble - like a sign of victory from extremely passionate love making.
Oh Krishna, your heart has become as dark as the color of your body. Other wise, how could you become so heartless as to ignore a person like me, who has desperately waited this whole night for you, my whole being burning with passion and desire. Oh lotus eyed one, please go and be with her, who takes away the pain from your heart. Your excuses and shallow words are wounding my heart.”
