When I was at school in the 1960s and 1970s, boys did metalwork and woodwork twice a week, and girls did home economics. The headmistress decided this was sexist, and each such class had to be inclusive. So, the next term, boys and girls could sign up for any of those classes. Perhaps not surprisingly, it was a complete failure: hardly any girls signed up for metalwork and woodwork, and only one boy signed up for home economics. Rather than accept this, the headmistress scrapped all of those classes, so that nobody could attend them. I see similar things happening in schools now, with progressive types wanting lots of black kids to sign up for, and prosper in, classes that they are not interested in or do badly at.
At least you had a choice. In the same period of time I found myself doing motor mechanics, metal work and woodwork, three things I was utterly useless at, instead of domestic science which would have been useful when I got married and found I was expected to cook!

Considering that the majority of London is no longer white British, all the many major institutions, the head offices of most large business and government bodies, will all have to lower their recruitment standards to accommodate the multicultural society. The result will be a major decline in our capital city. London, along with the South East, apparently account for most of the UK GDP, so we are taking another step to the UK becoming a third world country.
I read a testimony of a teacher who spent his life teaching in a mostly black public school in USA south. He said he never had a black student who showed slightest interest in Beethoven or Mozart music. It could be a result of peer pressure (that is not "black" music).
I can’t stand the school concerts now when they get the steel band dustbins out and the African drumming is even worse. It is as my kids would say “cringe!” . It is also cultural appropriation and I do not approve of such things.
Overrepresentation in arts and sciences may be mostly benign, but not when it comes to positions of power. No country can allow overrepresentation in governmemr or such areas as the judiciary or banking.
Brilliant perception, Simon - "level-up",not "level-down". Lowering standards to accommodate black people? Absolutely NOT the way the Educational Establishment should proceed. Left-wing b/s! Where are the challengers to these Lefties? Why are we "letting them get away with it?" We need people like you and me,Simon, making our presence felt in the meetings which are held to arrive at such decision-making about the lowering of standards in our schools.
IIRC Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull) taught himself to play the flute. He only got lessons much later when he realized he was playing the fingerings wrong. The eye rolling and standing on one leg while playing were his invention. It just goes to show that if you're determined to do something and willing to put in the work you can, you don't need fancy lessons.
Why is being elitist so wrong anyway? What about Mozart? Pale, male and stale, or only the most creative composer in western history. His music is still played today. Do you think Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo were ashamed of themselves for being white and the best artists of their generation? Was Shakespeare embarrassed by his own genius or his whiteness? I'm a woman, but I have to accept that the greatest geniuses have all been men, but I still enjoy their works of art.
The third option is to accept that different cultures have different beliefs and interests and this will lead to differing outcomes in the world. It's hard to understand why black cultures not being interested in orchestral music or becoming archivists is a problem. I imagine there are much fewer white people doing African drumming and this apparently isn't s problem. There are some professions where it may matter, such as teaching or healthcare or politics, but otherwise... Who cares? The point of liberalism was everyone is free and able to do what they want, not that people should all be the same. How did this philosophy become so twisted?
@@williamtell6750 I'm not sure that is a problem unless that ethnicity has substantially different values to the general population and that impacts their work.

I was brought up to appreciate classical music and opera. We listened to Mozart, Bach, Pacini and Leonardo Vinci etc every day at home. If someone isn't exposed to this music, they'll never learn to enjoy it.
Why would any employer refuse black people,if they were capable of making them lots of money? Sports and entertainment sector is a good example that people of any colour are welcome,as long as they produce the results. Maybe certain ethnicities dont succeed in other professional areas?
The worst part is that schools know that classical music is freely or cheaply available while they pay lots for mediochre transcriptions of modern pop.
The thing is, you could raise the education standards to the moon, and you'd still have fewer black people choosing certain jobs. It doesn't matter what you do, outcomes will never be equal as long as people can make different choices. Making outcomes equal is not a good goal.
I think this would be a wonderful opportunity to pause for a moment and give thanks for the great contributions of the African community to our society. Their peaceful and generous nature makes them ideal neighbors, lending testimony to their exceptional family values and parenting skills unrivaled by any other culture. Their commitment to academic excellence enriches our schools and serves as an example to all who hope to achieve prominence as a people. Real estate values are fueled by the mix of Arabic's into an area due to their caring and respectful nature of these communities, an example of all they have achieved through their enthusiasm for self improvement by hard work and a self-reliant can-do nature. Their historic advances in mud huttery inspire architecture students all over the world even today. Without their industrious and creative drive, we would be poorer as a nation.
I'm sorry Simon, but your argument regarding lack of qualifications and experience is flawed. I have visited the Royal Armouries several times and never once seen a young black man working in the new acquisitions section. Huge numbers of young black men have vast experience in acquiring firearms and bladed weapons. 🤔
Remember Garaeth Malone Simon, gave people the opportunity to be in a choir which they probably never would have had without him. Would make such a difference if this was in all schools and deprived areas. Not quite what your talking about but anyway.
You can join a choir anywhere, there's plenty of them. I think the main barrier nowadays is the loss of school assembly (with hymns) and the lack of churchgoing. That's where most people used to learn and gain the confidence to sing.

It was very limiting for people without a degree in brain surgery to get a job as a brain surgeon. Therefore, we have now removed this requirement, and anybody can just turn up in hospitals and start working on a human brain.
You forgot to add that, only if they are newcomers, legal or illegal, this has been proven by the increases of foreign doctors who are incompetent or do not have the qualifications that they say they do, as there are no longer any checks for them
@@StephenFirth-ui7oz Oh we can't do checks on them, that would be wrong!
Providing they use their own hammer and sickle.
The comprehensive schools did for classical music.....thanks to Labour....everything got levelled down....
Thus, we condemn ourselves to even greyer mediocrity.

Exactly
I remember the bands of Duke Ellington, Count Basie and so on. Some of the finest black musicians ever. The Duke still influences music today. But your point is well noted, Mr Webb.
positive discrimination = the best person for the job never gets it.
Yeah, and how "positive " is that?
Thinking of emigrating to Mogadishu for a better life
Why is it our responsibility to elevate them? Why must we be torn down in the process?
They don't seem concerned about elevating us at all.
Only Nationalism will eleviate the indigenous.
Or they could just insert a few random black people into orchestras and give them violins without strings.
😂

Classical music and literature can rewire your brain.
It’s a shame people don’t just get on with their lives instead of wanting to be included in everything .
Institutions are pushing this, not the average black person. Appearing raysist is the worst thing. Avoiding this is preferable to merit-based hiring.
What's next? Banning maths because certain groups find it difficult?

5:19 Well said 👏🏼. Leveling *Up* is always the way to go, otherwise you'll raise a weaker generation, that'll create harder times and make a far worse world. In a way, it's what's been happening these past 12 years 🤷🏻♂️.
I'm Latino and I don't want my life to be easier because of that, I don't want to be discriminated either, but I want to earn everything like anyone else. This movement is forced, feels wrong, and works awfully 🤦🏻♂️...
Imagine dickens great expectations with pip being cast as a black 🤣...
Well, the BBC did a Dickens show that mixed a few stories into one, and had to be so careful that their casting choice for the Artful Dodger didn't come across as too criminal. Because according to the unwritten rules, they must be included but in positive roles only.
They don't improve their outcomes or achievements. They just take your outcomes and achievements and give it to them and then rewrite history to retcon them into it.
A fair point indeed. By the way, Israel has no greater friend than your country. Zionism and Hindutva are matching concepts.

With regard to classical music, it is not only the schools and universities that are discouraging it, the conservatoires are pushing the inclusion of black composers in every concert and the obligations for teachers to introduce BAME repertoire to every student, every quartet. It is difficult to find Black and Mediocre Eskimos to fill the quotas. Now every student is facing the inevitability of one or other of 'Those two sonatas by black American women, or else...'
The bbc classical programmes have been pushing and sponsoring such composers, the results were less than gratifying to the auditory organs!
On the radio a short while ago, a woman was introduced as a Community Engagement Strategist. There folllowed three or four minutes of race-based sub-sociological gibberish. I got the impression that the job had been made up simply to give her a large salary.
Councils and other government are filled with these jobs. Don't forget HS2 is full of diversity and race awareness people
It’s really hard to get these niche jobs and they are badly paid. I feel for people who have studied hard to do what they live only to be racially profiled out of the running.
It's called dumbing down.

Yes. But should they rewrite our history to pretend it was other?
They make us pretend things were other in order to humiliate us.

Who is going to have to work harder & correct the mistakes of the unqualified & unsuitable candidates ?
BUT THEY PLAY THE FIDDLE AND RACE CARD SIMON .
The kids in the orchestra could be busting out some Jethro Tull….
Lowering the bar will have disastrous consequences.
Pretend you're a drill rapper and try and get a life insurance quote! See how quickly the phone gets put down 😂

Some cultures produce automobiles. Other cultures steal them. It takes a village.

Levelling down has been happening across the civil service since Blair and it's not just advantaging weak candidates from the Black community. That's likely to be one of the many reasons our institutions are crumbling and no longer fit for purpose.

Why would any employer refuse black people,if they were capable of making them lots of money?

Maybe certain ethnicities dont succeed in other professional areas?
"Lowering the standards" sounds a lot like "Bantu Education" which we had in South Africa during the shameful apartheid years.
Has education in South Africa improved after apartheid?
I don't really know because I haven't been back there for 16 years now. Just try Google.
It appears that DEI is code for lowering standards.

Remember Garaeth Malone Simon, gave people the opportunity to be in a choir which they probably never would have had without him. I expect there was quite a bit of depression with those people when that finished. As his work with çhildren. Everything he did was successful.
