LYRICS: I woke alone, in a mansion on a hill; Across the room: a red telephone. Mouth was dry, I felt I’d been asleep for years. I turned and I discovered then the sum of all my fears. What have I become? (Someone tell me that I’m dreaming!) What have I become? (Someone wake me up!) Through the glass, the clouds were dark and harbored rain; The land below grey and vast. And through the mist, I saw the fields were flush with graves, And each headstone was etched with lies discrediting the brave. Son, imitate death’s true face; For who and what and why’d they have to die? Someone wake me up!
Yeah, even their oldest stuff is fantastic, it's very much dated by today's tastes, but man I love it. I can play thrice all day long and feel like I've listened to different stuff all day. Seeing them for a 6th time on Friday.
This is one of those bands in the list of most influential bands you've never heard of. Their older stuff hasn't aged well, but when it came out it actually rewrote entire genres.
@@ashofaphoenix I actually think the earlier albums hold more merit and aged better than other early 2000s punk albums. They were very unique and even though a lot of the early stuff was angsty stuff, it still holds up pretty well.
Holy crap..... I thought these guys were NEW!! Proof positive that Canadian radio is extremely behind the times!! I've been missing out on some great MUSIC!!
They did a lot of indie/underground in the later part of their career. Their newest album was probably a heavy enough combination of Alternative and a bit of their old sound to grab attention from the hard rock audience and hard rock radio. Black Honey basically exploded as a hit, though some other songs did get some radio play, but not as much as Black Honey.
McLarenMP48 it was that line about the mansion on a hill, made me think of Adam West's Batman. He had that red phone with a direct line to Commissioner Gordan. To the Bat-poles!
This album is still an absolute banger.
Beggar*
Damn right
this album changed my life in a positive way
Jesus it's been 8 years since Beggars???
wow... wtf... time is flying now.
I turned 30, the fuck?
Remembering the good days where this album was leaked
What a haunting and beautiful song.
Thrice is the best band ever! But you need to go listen to Whispering Wolf by SLT right now ! You’re missing out 🤘🐺🥁.-/.
These cats never get old. Been listening since it was cool to listen to music and go to warped tour haha
I remember the day I bought this cd like it was yesterday. I love you guys so much thank you for all the music
Damn if they make an album from all B-sides i bet it would still be amazing
Damn, I don't think I've listened to this song, either in a long time or never have.
Later day thrice is very underrated.

The Long Defeat Idk. It's been on UA-cam since 2009. Lol. In another video though, not this one.

Black Honey and Hurricane are both fantastic, as well!! Loving it..... but not as much as Highly Suspect! Totally hooked on these guys!!

Uh, need to release b-sides in one collection.

Yeah all the b sides at once would be awesome!
It's called If they could only see us now... but indeed, a new version would be nice :D
Jasper Pollet yeah that’s only up to the time when vheissu came out though right? I’m sure there’s more b sides by now.

The intro is heavily influenced by No Knife
Thrice is the best band ever! But you need to go listen to Whispering Wolf by SLT right now ! You’re missing out 🤘🐺🥁!.!
Best (and only) Halloween gift I ever received! Hahaha
I wish Ed would do more backing vocals.
I think it's Teppei in this song?
The outro - "Son imitate deaths true face" - is an anagram for "the United States of America"
I doubt there's anything you guys can release that I would dislike.
lyrics someone? 😊
ughhh beggars is the best
This band needs to get a better marketing team
Thrice is the best band ever! But you need to go listen to Whispering Wolf by SLT right now ! You’re missing out 🤘🐺🥁:)(:

Is this song about Batman?
McLarenMP48 I see it now, good call.
McLarenMP48 it was that line about the mansion on a hill, made me think of Adam West's Batman. He had that red phone with a direct line to Commissioner Gordan. To the Bat-poles!
McLarenMP48 Yeah. Also kind of evokes the metaphor of America as a "shining city on a hill." Dustin is such a good lyricist.
Reminds me of nirvana/red jumpsuit apparatus
This guy sounds alot like Bono when he was younger. That's awesome
