Agreed. Can’t understand how they wasted so much potential on many well-loved books and concepts (haunted mask, camera, Horrorland). It’s like they came out swinging with everything the fans like only to disappoint with the way they used it for half an episode or episode.
I know in your other review, you talked about why anthology might be harder nowadays, but I feel like if they wanted the serialized type of show to work, and they should have come up with one or two concepts from goosebumps to use within the season, and really flush them out. It’s like how can they have multiple seasons when they’ve used up so many of the series classic items? They could’ve even had a new group of actors with maybe a few crossing over if the teen drama got to stay even for them, each season or every 2 seasons. I’m not much for the drama, but at least that could’ve kept it fresh.
Like maybe for this season, they could have built upon the camera and the mask and used that in an 8 to 10 episode story arc. Then next season could have included Slappy and Horrorland or something. Now I’m not sure where they’re going to go to get more seasons, with all the books and concepts, they burn through based on the titles and the items they put in the shows.

I’m just going to act like this show doesn’t exist lol. I liked episodes 4,6,8 and some parts of 10 but it’s just so bad overall… ugh. Oh well. I’ll stick to the old series that I love so much and the movies.

Since you’re not really a Slappy fan, do you with this was a Haunted Mask show?

The Haunted Mask was even worse.

@@ChrisBipolarjediisatrans-zn4qs I don't really want any monster front and center but I do agree Mr Wood doesn't get the love he deserves and Slappy is extremely overrated to the point he's ruining Goosebumps for me.

@@windandcloudshadow158 I agree. I think having a Goosebumps "mascot" defeats the point of what Goosebumps is.

Goosebumps truly has been a Slappy thing since 2015. I don't mind it here. Finale was good enough and as a whole it was flawed but mostly fine with good writing in some places and messy stuff in others. The stuff people whine about is whatever to me. I've seen some get more into in the back half, mostly on reddit weirdly enough. Thoughts are over the map lol. I still see annoying whining now that it's done.
The actors and producers have shown excitement over books they wanna do. One actor wants Fever Swamp and they also said they'd like a tone shift to something more fun or slasher based which is interesting.

I do because Goosebumps was never just about Slappy and putting him in the center all the time diminishes all the other villains.

@@windandcloudshadow158 I agree. And there are so many other great monsters out there in the GB franchise. As much as I love Slappy, GB isn't all about Slappy. This isn't the Slappy show.

The test of whether a TV show is good or not is if it's re-watchable. And this new so-called Goosebumps TV show isn't rewatchable. This show is one of those shows you watch once, maybe another time or two just to see what you missed on first viewing, but it's not something you would watch over and over. This new GB show won't even be considered a cult classic in the future. It's forgettable at best. In fact, it wasn't even watchable the first time, in my opinion, because the writing, the acting, and the plot decisions are SOOOOOOOOO bad. The writers who penned the script thought they were being clever, but it just fell flat. They need to know how to write a good script because what they wrote AIN'T IT!! And GoosebumpsCompletionist, you hit the nail on the head about using the monsters from the first few episodes and the lack of plot cohesiveness to the overall series. This series was about Slappy all this time . . . . very disappointing! Slappy/Kandau's evil scheme makes no sense! It's like whoever wrote the script wanted to insert their political/pacifist views into Slappy/Kanadu's plan thinking it was so clever and unique, but it makes no sense. It's not clever, it's stupid, not realistic! I love Slappy, but I'm sick of the Slappy Show from the two movies and this crap fest of a show. There's more to Goosebumps than Slappy! Sony doesn't believe in the material to make it more than about Slappy. This show was a cash grab. And if they don't trust the material, they should keep their grubby hands off of the Goosebumps IP and be creative with their own original TV series. They wouldn't come up with their own material because it's way easier to make money with a popular IP --- all they see are dollar signs, not a love for the material, much less Goosebumps.

Anyone involved in this goosebumps series should be BANNED from anything involving Goosebumps in the future. Please no more oversaturated Slappy with Goosebumps, no more Gen Z and Goosebumps, and NO MORE NON-ANTHOLOGY Goosebumps. Gen Z and Goosebumps mixes like oil and water. Personally my favorite Goosebumps character has always been the sponge from beneath the kitchen sink. Yet sadly as a society we always aim to please the masses. Hence Slappy and Gen Z NONSENSE.

I feel your pain brother... I've always liked slappy but don't understand how he became the mascot. Like I said, I feel like it's to please the MASSES/MOB. I personally thought Slappy was fairly cookie cutter as a character. The sponge that came from beneath the kitchen sink on the other hand, one of a kind!

I found only 3 of the episodes with 3,4, and 6 are re-watchable more than the other episodes. With that being said I found for the rest of the show there are parts of what I liked but for the most part not enough for me to enjoy watching again. Things I loved the other episodes was the football scene in the first episode, the concept of how the Haunted Mask changes but that execution was not done well, the entire concept of the Scrapbook where it shows you the past and things within the book but how it was written was bad, the idea of being trapped in the scrapbook in episode 7 and trying to find a way out was also a cool idea but just like episode 5 how they had them get out was written horribly, i enjoyed the final scenes of episode 8 especially where Isaiah is hanging off the cliff while the others was trying to get Harold Biddle to come to his senses and how Slappy was manipulating him, almost nothing from episode 9 and 10 i liked. With that being said I absolutely hate how they choose to use Clickbait for some of the episodes and how it ended overall and would have liked the ending better if it ended with the Ritual actually succeeding and release the Horrors into the real world. By releasing the Horrors in the real world that would have gave us hope that we might actually get the Monsters from the books in the second season other than the Haunted objects (that wasn't really Haunted and was actually powered by Kanduu) and possessions that we basically got the entire first season. And from what I heard from the people who made the show and movies wanted to use Kanduu (aka fake slappy) and the same teenagers and parents for multiple seasons basically stretching out everything for more Slappy so I don't know how they would be able to adapt more books without Horrors being released in the world without basically repeating everything. I ended up rating the show a 1/5 or out of 10 it would have been 3/10. I would have rather had a show where Slappy was actually brought to live from a spell and not because he was possessed and to actually have real Monsters/Horrors already in the universe instead of what we have been getting by these same writers from Sony.

As with all the "true fans," I would rather this show did not exist at all as it sours the good name of Goosebumps. Damn it DIsney, Sony, R.L. Stine..... Such a bitter sour taste in the mouth and maybe the definite downfall of Goosebumps if the new House of Shivers doesn't retain the charm of the 1st 2023 book in the series, Scariest Book Ever.

I have never seen a show change so often and drastically in how good it was. For me it went from fantastic for episodes 1-5, then campy trash in episode 6 to pure time killer for episodes 7-8 to wow this is just pure trash in 9-10. It's like they hired a new script crew every day and the old crew never talked to the new one. What a mixed bag.
