  • For a long time, tradition held that baseball's Opening Day always was in Cincinnati, such as was this afternoon game against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies, April 7, 1986, from the Reds TV network. Marty Brennaman and Joe Nuxall describe the action as Mario Soto started for Cincinnati, Steve Carlton for the Fightins'.

I'm a crotchety old man when it comes to certain things in sports and this is one of them. Why can't we have opening day in Cincy anymore damnit!

Officially, The Reds home opener is still the official mlb season opener no matter what time it starts.

This era Phillies team never won any hardware, but it was a solid entertaining team. Steve Physioc working with Marty Brennaman to start this game. Heard Steve doing the Royals vs Cleveland just yesterday. Really solid announcer.

To me, there are moments and players on every team each season that provide entertainment. That is why the uploads are so appreciated. In retrospect, there is no run of the mil classic game. Something to see, perhaps a new announcer to hear, and action to enjoy in every telecast.

Is this the season when Pete Rose got himself kicked out of baseball?
