I am new to lapidary. My grandfather hunted, cut, and set his own stones in Montana. My mom, made and sold jewelry for the last 20 years. Now, she is very sick and cannot be alone. We left our bamboo farm in Florida to come to Arizona to take care of her. My husband set up the spare room with all of her stuff, but she is too sick to even go in. Over the holiday, I found my way in for a few hours and discovered the joy of working with real stones. After several days of me working in the new rock room, my mom gave me her entire tool bag. Now I know how sick she is. She would never have given me them if she was ab l e to go after it again. I would love to win your package. Hi Rob, I'm a retired music therapist in Louisiana who switched career paths during covid. My 5 year plan to enter the medical field just fell through 8 months until the finish line, so I am rethinking my career path, and opal lapidary work is at the top of list. I grew up crystal hunting in Idaho with my dad (geologist) who knew all the good smokey quartz, topaz, and aquamarine spots, and I just remember loving the process of finding rough minerals and cleaning them up. I've recently become ill with opal fever because I look into them and forget my worries for a moment, and I want to start cutting and polishing them as a hobby with the aim to turn it into a profession. I love Opals so much, I named my daughter born in 2007 after them, And I would love to give her something like that when she's older. Plus Opal is a old name not seen much anymore, I went Opal hunting with my Grandma when I was a young kid in Nevada, I have all kinds of wonderful memories and I still have the tiny flake of a fire opal I found while hunting that field around 1990-93

I'm recently retired, and after watching the awe inspiring way that you took the raw opal and made it into a spectacular gem, I am certain that this is a skill i would like to learn. Hopefully thru watching more of your very entertaining and informative videos I could begin learning how to cut opal. Do you have any classes or tutorials structured to assist in this? I
There is nothing like opal. Any other gemstone can look like another but opal is unique. Every one is different even the ones that don't face they still have a characteristic that is still beautiful and that's why opal is the best.

Something you guys may get a kick out of: I recently fount these little jars of Cream Brulee at the grocery store. They have a aluminum foil seal and Little packet of sugar to put on top. You just open them put the sugar on top and caramelize them with a torch. I purchased a full case. So my two Sons (they are grown, my youngest son is a college professor, so not little kids) keep grabbing my torches off my workbench to make them, because ny torches work better then the little kitchen torch (i think they don't know where they put it). So I keep having to look in the kitchen or on their desks, or workbenches for my torches. They are yummy cream brulee, and easy quick but having to hunt for my torches wasn't in my plans. Lol

Wow Robert a 67ct opal😳😱!! Why wouldn’t anyone want to win that😂?! But I guess my reason would be that I’ve never seen an opal that big in person before. That would be something I’d love to show my family and friends. I never won anything so extravagant but for it to be an opal is icing on the cake😻💖❣️❣️ if I won I’d have to join a lapidary club so I can shape it properly.

Opals are by far my favourite stone and I still feel sad about the huge opal ring my granny had back in the 30s in Hong Kong. She had a run of bad luck and serious illness in the family and she blamed the opal so she buried it somewhere on the Peak in Hong Kong! I'd love to win this ☺️☺️

For Christmas my husband bought me a 4 carat Lightning Ridge rough rub crystal opal and an 84 carat Queensland boulder opal. I told him. Last night that all I want for gifts from now on is opal. Also, we have a friend who is a lapidary and he cuts and polishes them for us. Oh pick me! Pick me!
