  • Many people have been asking whether or not bitcoin is a good investment. According to Ken Fisher, what is and is not a good investment depends on the investor. Ken explains that bitcoin falls into the category of an emerging commodity. Importantly, bitcoin doesn’t do anything. While some people talk about bitcoin as a replacement for cash, it doesn’t act like cash. Cash has stable value so people can use it for transactions, whereas bitcoin fluctuates wildly and often.
    Bitcoin’s price fluctuations are largely based on speculation. While there’s nothing wrong with speculation or investing in commodities, investors need to ask themselves what they know about something-bitcoin, in this case-that others don’t. Ken believes buying bitcoin without having an answer to that question means you’re largely relying on luck.

    I sense that Ken hasn't changed his opinion on bitcoin one bit since his last video on it. He just states it indirectly by implying that most people who think bitcoin is a good investment don't have any info that the rest of the world doesn't already have and so are just gambling. He is just stating it in a subtle way such that those paying attention will get it, but those who are arrogantly confident in their love of bitcoin will miss it.

    On Bitcoin, Mr Ken says: 'It doesn't do anything' - it is the only sentence you need to take from this video.

    Pre-pricing and anticipation , the art of speculation/ investing. With Bitcoin, it is another innovative financial instrument
    for the history books. Fallen Governments, Politicians, and Underworld rely on this form of anonymous payment/ transfers
    system, so may succeed. Fair value is unknown, but is very important to the aforementioned crew...and wishful thinkers.

      The Black market successfully gets billions every year through regular banking system, so far big players don't need it. Also, bitcoin isn't really anonymous. Sure, you don't know who's behind but all transactions are open visible.

    Fiat pricing baffles me it’s not like comparing a meter to a yard. The flux in price of one currency doesn’t necessarily increase or decrease the value of the other currency. Long story short I placed a bid for too much Monero with too little Bitcoin and they were headed in opposite directions! Doh!

    Everyone keeps on saying rare earths aren't rare. And it's technically true. If you take the whole earth's crust, then rare earths aren't rare. But a deposit that can be economically permitted and mined is another story.

    markets aren't always efficient. there are plenty of folks that weren't inclined to believe in Tesla a year ago and that's changed tremendously. Same thing goes for canabis and same thing goes for bitcoin. Bitcoin has become more than just a commodity. It's value lies in the increasing acceptance it's enjoying around the globe.

    • @tomlxyz
      @tomlxyz 3 роки тому

      Tesla wasn't guaranteed to succeed and might have failed. Cannabis as a business might thrive but that doesn't mean you'll always end up winning if you pick certain companies or an index of it to invest in. You're falling for survivorship bias

      Bitcoins acceptance is quite slow. Painfully slow to be precise. It's basically digital fiat money. The only reason it's rising in prices is because of the hype around it. Its heavily overvalued and extremely volatile. Its the ideal gambler's addiction. No intelligent investor would look at bitcoin for the long term . For short time it will generate impressive returns but in the long term its a big no IMO.

    While many crypto currencies will fail, it is the future and it will evolve. Most people miss the point, as the main objective is decentralization.

    Ken may be a billionaire, but he doesn't understand Bitcoin. "It doesn't do anything" is a hilariously simplistic (and objectively wrong) take on Bitcoin. Bitcoin stores and transmits value across space and time. It is quite simply the best money that man has ever invented. It "doesn't do anything" just like gold "doesn't do anything" and yet it has been used for thousands of years to store and transmit value with a current market cap of $11.8 trillion $USD.

      Both #bitcoin and gold do a lot of things. The problem is that gold is not replaceable by better gold. The question is: will a better cryptocurrency outplace others, including BTC?

      Too volatile to be currency. Currency needs people's confidence on a stable value. Whatever, I pay heed to Mr Fisher's advice and, as I don't know more about bitcoin than other people -actually I don't know anything and don't pretend to- I don't waste a minute on it (my goals are long-term and I see more fitting ways to get there). Notwithstanding, in a well-diversified portfolio I don't see much problem if somebody more knowledgeable takes on some bitcoin stuff. By the way, I avoid gold too, it is does not create value, it does not pay dividends, it even has some storing costs and is less profitable in the long term than 10-year US treasury bonds; it spikes at certain moments, goes down, and becomes dormant for long periods.
      Oh, yes, price of things can soar and plunge, as everything else, it is the universal rule of offer and demand, despite the actual value or fundamentals sustaining them.

    • @tomlxyz
      @tomlxyz 3 роки тому +1

      Store and transmit isn't an investment. On long term, inflation corrected gold doesn't give any return

      Gold is a relatively stable commodity to fall back on, when markets are perceived as highly unstable, but agree it’s not investment material, more a safe haven. Bitcoin is anything but stable. As others have said, it’s certainly cannot be taken seriously as a currency, ridiculously volatility in value against other major currencies. It is fundamentally a scarce “nothing”, just numbers on a screen being bought and sold. A lot of people (most likely naive first time investors) will lose their shirts.
