My 1967 waffle style Schwinn petals are similar to these but different in that there is no metal tab to pinch down on the edges. I have the same issue with the rubber pads wanting to rotate.
Awesome task repairing those pedals. Or you could outfit your Airedyne with #Bear Traps pedals. Which is what I did. Highly recommended. imo
