Ben's re-playing 'Billy' should give all some kind of real idea of how brilliant Steve was from the get go. The chord structuring on this song is simply staggeringly difficult. Steve created some the most intricate, complicated and brilliant melodies, harmonies, hooks, bends and riffs in rock history - or as his best mate Phil said verbatim "Steve had the ability to create a Japanese garden of musical wonderment". The best and most accurate description I have ever heard - and it is fact.
Great job. Reading the comments it's good to see other people share my appreciation of Steve Clark. Those early Def Leppard songs meant a lot to me. Of course everything has more impact when you're only 11 or 12 but those songs have been stuck in my head for about 40 years.
Nice job mate Steve was brilliant. This song physically moves me back to a young teenager. You can feel it right? It’s so unique that feeling takes you back. RIP Steve, cousin Tom(Def Leppard maniac), and my dear Rocco. Papa misses you
Benny this is the most accurate representation of Steve, after all these years you never stop to amaze me! I won’t say this lightly but the feeling is just as incredible as hearing Steve being represented by you.
For me the genius of Steve are the bridge parts in this song and Comin Under Fire… chords you just don’t see other people playing that structure the song(s) so brilliantly.
All I can do is admire. I was a teen growing up on these Def Leppard albums. I wore out every one I had. Every time this song would end I would rewind and replay it. One of the baddest songs on Pyromania. I wish I had picked up a guitar back then. Not sure why I never did but certainly regret it now. Another excellent awesome job by you sir. You are the best. Keep em' coming.
wow... i never thought i'd see someone cover this specific version, and i've been watching you for years. on an xr-1 no less! i love playing this song so much
So damn good. I've seen Def Leppard 22 times starting with the Pyromania tour. If I close my eyes, your playing takes me back there. Steve is still my favorite guitarist of all time and vastly underappreciated. Love the XR1. I have one as well.
Listening to these old songs that were more on the "progressive" side of their songwriting makes me really miss Steve and makes me wonder what direction Def Leppard might have taken had he found a way to conquer his demons. On the XR-1 side, the guitar I bought after your Mirror Mirror video arrived. The neck is surprisingly "beefy" compared to my other Les Pauls of this era (I also have a '79 Custom, '80 Firebrand, '81 Firebrand, and a '84 Studio) which all have relatively slim neck profiles compared to the XR-1. The other difference is my '81 has a first fret dot inlay vs. the guitar you're playing as well as the one Steve played in the Pyromania videos.
Flawless. You have done it again Ben. Really enjoyed this one. You always make me hear the song different. You highlight little intricacies that don’t necessarily stand out when you play the album. Can’t wait for the next one
What an excellent job. You playing is perfect. As a bass player I would love to start a music project with you. Stay safe and well and keep Rocking. Signed John Zepbass Gregory from Munster Indiana.
Back in 83, Pyromania was my gateway drug into rock. Of course Photograph, Rock of Ages and Foolin' had a lot to do with that, but when I saved up enough dough to buy the album, THIS SONG blew me away! Thanks for keeping it alive man! That chorus (song part, not the effect....although that's great too) is pure gold and inspired a lot of my guitar playing style to this day. Keep up the good work brother!
well this song brings me back at the bar Le Ptit Québec in Buckingham. It was in the jukebooks and I played it alll night while we played pool. :) great times. would so love those tabs in the video while you play omg. well now I need this guitar lol

Definitely- I think it was a combination of influences such as Zal from SAHB, Jimmy Page, Mick Ronson and Andy Summers

Hey bro could you please do one for the overture live in Manchester 1983. It would be awesome to hear that.
Certainly a possibility. I did the album version many years ago but would like to do more of these live ones showing different parts.
@@bwm5150 sounds good!
Master, we rule the night of bon jovi please
Sadly, they always played manu of the songs too fast back then...
The energy of youth.
