- 3 night solo camping trip in one of the Mid Atlantic's premier hiking destinations: the Spruce Knob - Seneca Creek Backcountry in the Monongahela National Forest of West Virginia. This was an excellent trip that offered everything from heavy thunderstorms, hidden mountain meadows, a plane crash site, waterfalls and wild trout fishing.
All sounds are original recordings from this trip.

This maybe one of your best videos. I've heard of this area, but I've never been there. It looks amazing! A tree falling in the forest always gets your attention, especially if it's night and you in your sleeping bag. You freak out for a few seconds then when the noise stops there's an immediate feeling of relief. It seems the brightness level of these videos is more than your normal. As always very creative shots.
Thanks Bryan! This area has a lot to offer and I didn't even hit the alpine forest leading up to Spruce Knob, the highest point in WV and the Allegheny Mountains. You're right about the falling tree. My first solo night in the backcountry I woke to a windstorm and large tree falling nearby. My heart was pounding... I appreciate the feedback on the brightness, I'm still getting a feel for grading log footage so your comment is helpful.
@@OutdoorOperator Wow, your compositions are always creative. I guess I'm not surprised that you're grading log footage, because color looks so good. The zoom out on that last shot is a little haunting, it almost makes it look like a dolly zoom.
@@jamtastical3 I appreciate the feedback! Good observation on the zoom, I actually did this using a power zoom lens in camera as opposed to in post. Thanks for watching ✌
Oh, amazing! Not talking in the video is exactly how one might feel on a solo trip. I feel motivated after watching this video.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment!
Sweet video big bro
Thanks lil sis
Another wonderful video, my friend! That milkyway shot with your silhouette was super fancy 😊. I can't believe you caught that tree falling. I'd mess my pants 😅. A wonderful, epic trip 👏👏👏
Thanks Nick! The moon was close to full for this trip but it didn't rise until 2 or 3 am which allowed for me to see Milky Way... That falling tree definitely had me on high alert which you can probably tell from the video 😂 As always, thank you for watching!
Beautiful video and, as always, amazing shots. Really captures the breadth of the solo hiking experience. I am motivated to hit the trail in WV.
There are many great places to explore in WV, especially in the highlands of the Monongahela National Forest. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
You really get some fantastic shots with the camera. Really nicely done. Also, I know how cold that water is. That plunge you took at Seneca falls had to be heart stopping!😂
Thanks PTO! You're right about that water. It was refreshing to say the least 😂
Nice video
Thanks for commenting!
great video! that part of west virginia is about as good as it gets for all things outdoors in the eastern us, just an insane amount of things to do and see within a 1 hour radius! nice wild rainbow! 🐟
I agree with you, this area is fantastic. I'm still trying to explore all of the places within that 1 hour radius. Thanks for watching!
Nice video, there's so much to explore just in that area of WV. I've visited that crash site last summer.
I agree, this are is loaded with great places to explore. The wreckage was a somber sight to behold. Thanks for watching!
Great video as always! One of my favorite spots. I’ve been to Dolly Sods 4x, North Fork Mountain 2x and Roaring Plains Wilderness 2x, only done Spruce once though. I’m looking forward to heading back there again.
Thanks dude. The Mon has so much to offer, it's the place I've backpacked the most by far. I haven't hit North Fork Mountain yet probably due to the logistics but it's definitely on my list.
@@OutdoorOperator If you check out the first video of North Fork on my channel, it has the link to a shuttle. We stayed at her cabin the night prior, she has animals running around the yard lol. You can rent her cabin and she’ll shuttle you as well. Spring mid trail was reliable both times I went even in hot weather. I imagine in the drier months it’ll still be a trickle. Definitely worth seeing.
@@Bacon_N_Backpacking ok, cool. Thanks for the insights, I'll check out the video and the rental!
This was really really well done! Holy smokes!! How have I not heard from you before!!! Your editing skills are great and your knowledge of both flora and fauna outstanding! My daughter and I are hammocks as well. You really showcase all of the positive attributes of having a hammock!! Thank you for that. It’s hard to get that across to my tenting friends😅. That tree falling must’ve been terrifying! More vids more vids!!! Please! Good stuff here!
Take care. NQU
Thanks for the feedback NQU! I get my best sleep in the backcountry with a hammock. It's a shelter that's hard to beat in the eastern woodlands. The cooler time of the year is my favorite so definitely more to come!
@ awesome!! Looking forward to it!!
