Kylie would be more believable if she was the one in a basement lab and mixing up chemicals, to create her make-up. But she wasn't. I'm sure she had people (endorsements) come to her or vice versa and pitch a make-up line. Her name, fame and family ties made her a billionaire. And plasic surgery helped also. If she kept her original face, I highly doubt no one would want to buy her products and look like her.

We have to correct this mindset of being “self-made”, especially when it involves people from wealthy upbringings who fail to consider all of the advantages they’ve had over the rest of society along the way. They live out-of-touch from working class people, and never learn to appreciate their workers whose labor helped them amass more wealth than they could ever spend in a lifetime. I couldn’t imagine having one billion dollars (let alone tens of billions) without giving at least half of it away to society and to people who need it more than I do. $500 million is still more money than I would ever need. This era is no longer about the American Dream of success, it’s about helping plutocrats consolidate power.

Self-Made is just a synonym for better than expected. If a person just accomplishes what is expected, he is considered a product of his environment or Environment-Made, not Self-Made. If a person wins the lottery, he is considered lucky, not Self-Made. Anyone who succeeds better than expected is called Self-Made, because the difference between what was expected and what was accomplished is due to his individual effort. If someone comes from a poor family and remains poor, he is "Environment-Made". If someone comes from a poor family and becomes a millionaire, he is "Self-Made". If someone comes from a millionaire family and becomes a millionaire, he is Environment-Made. If someone comes from a millionaire family and becomes a billionaire, he is Self-Made.

If you started with 100 millions turned it into 1 billion it’s not all that impressive. We already know amassing wealth with money is much easier than starting from nothing.
There’s also time and inflation to consider. Using the same example if you amassed 1 billion from 100 millions within a year then it’s still impressive. Within 30-40 years? Not so much.

I the Baha'i faith there's this concept of the three pillars (or often referred to as the protagonists) of society working together to achieve an ever advancing civilisation, the individual, the community and the institutions. So while individualism is important, it provides us guidance as our place in society, it is just one of the pillars. So I think we miss the point when we do celebrity/billionaire worship and not realise that there were two other pillars in play. Also the other way round when the institutions forget about the individual and community contribution to society.

Thank you for this, the kardashian stupidly on ‘self made’ mortifies me. I would have liked this video more if this was only about the kardashain claim of ‘self made’. What a lie when your famous family literally spoon fed you and made you into a person and they could because you were born into fame and so were they.

@@Dlahusen1 Then why is it sold as that? Why is it used to blame everything bad that happens to someone, entirely on them?
Why is still being used to shame people who already work as hard as humanly possible, for not being CEO's of the universe?
May I remind you that the bootstraps expression was first used to describe a ludicrously impossible feat? And that proponents of American style capitalism know that they're selling the ludicrously impossible feat, of everybody being able to own a business if they just "Work Harder TM"?
At least you're smart enough to see through the charade, even tho you fail to see the charade itself.

No one is self made billionaires because it takes a team to make the business and profit. And actually the workers that make it all happen. A lot of times slave laborers. Amazon warehouse workers are a perfect example of this. Without the people that make the products and carrying out the operations of the business they would have nothing. Has a spiritual teacher we are taught that team work is everywhere, nature works based on unity and cooperation. We work has one to create all accomplishments. No one does great without a team. That’s why we are here. Divine Father and Mother God please make all billionaires and millionaires give their profits back to the people that earned them in the first place.💚❤️💙🙏🇺🇸🌍🧿🕉✝️☮️💸222 333 1111 444 555 #victoryforthepeople❤️💙

Of course, they are all self made! Their actions in their situation made it possible. Had they made the wrong actions, they would have been failures. To me this is just the mundane, ordinary people, who could never become Billionaires, even with help trying to tear down exceptional people who are SUPERIOR TO THEM. History is filled with superior, singular individuals, and "Great Man History" is a real thing. There was only one Charlemagne, only one Octavian/Augustus, some mundane person not particularly good at court intrigue, or leading an Dark Age army Western European Frankish Army, or managing and reforming a vast empire until it worked better than any country in Europe since the Roman era of the 5 Good Emperors, they would not have become Charlemagne, more likely would have been assassinated in 770 by their brother Carloman. Kylie Jenner turned out to have exceptional business acumen, some other young lady without that might have ended up maybe worth something, but not even 10 million dollars, much less 1 Billion.

Have to make the Dream easier to achieve. Right now, only about 17% of families benefit to the extent that it’s been sold for the last 50 years. Home ownership, children, healthcare, education, and enough income to care for it all (even if that one paycheck devolved into two in the 80s and currently stands at roughly THREE in 2022) by two earners doesn’t come close to 2 in 10 families. That means 80% of us are struggling against this myth without simple aids like housing protections, guaranteed, single-payer healthcare, accessible higher education, and most importantly, equitable wages. It is a recipe for disaster. Virtually every European country is “doing America” better than America. By a huge margin. And proponents of our system cite our massive economy as proof of its veracity. That, of course, is a shell game designed to keep you engaged with the myth. And it’s working. Look at the substance of America’s growth and you’ll find that it’s just air. We are literally banking on our reputation, which is eroding as we speak. When what we did before is no longer valuable (like an old entry on your CV) the rest of the world will abandon us and we will sink like lead shot in a still water. Enjoy your celebrity, Mr. Musk and friends. Then look forward to living elsewhere because your complacency will be noted.
