Eddy Leutenez is a dyed-in-the-whool pigeon fancier. Some would say he was born in a nest bowl rather than in a cradle, which shows that Eddy developed a passion for pigeon racing at a very early age. He kept his first pigeons in Gavere, he developed into a nationally renowned champion, and he eventually gained the status of a super champion in his loft in Semmerzake. Journalists referred to him as Eddy "Stuntman" Leutenez, which goes to show that he was running an exceptional team of racing birds that at times outclassed their rivals. His palmares includes 6 national first prizes, 4 national second prizes, as well as several provincial and national ace pigeon titles. Unfortunately, his success story came to a sudden end in 2003 due to a health issue (a lung problem).
Eddy and his family moved to a new home in Kruishoutem, intending to leave his pigeon family behind. But things turned out differently: his son Maarten regained an interest in pigeon racing after completing his studies, and his father Eddy was more than happy to make a comeback together with his son. The duo took a fresh start in Kruishoutem in 2007, with Eddy acting as the team's manager, helping his son to achieve great results and watching the action from the first row. Maarten is a genuine pigeon fancier, who created a professional framework for the team.
The bloodlines of "Het Bolleken" and her two parents turned out to be an invaluable addition to the team of Eddy and Maarten. Their descendants were capable of winning first prizes at provincial and zonal level, they did great in the one loft races, and they won many national ace pigeon titles as well. They turned this team into an internationally regarded pigeon family, based around Het Bolleken and her dam Rita. Their exceptional team of breeders soon enabled Eddy and Maarten Leutenez to become one of the top performers at national level. Eddy Leutenez soon regained his status as a national champion. Let's take a look at the achievements of their most successful racing birds.
