The show really missed on the opportunity to celebrate the reality that most people end up marrying their best friend rather than their “crush”. That love is more about trust and a bond deeper than attraction. Plz marry the person you can be goofy, sad, angry and utterly happy with.
But it did. That was the whole point to Rafael’s character development. He went from being a selfish, privileged, playboy to being selfless, caring, supportive, and above all, a best friend to Jane. That is why Jane fell in love with Rafael; he grew for her and pushed her to be her best self even when she was too afraid to try. He taught her to “Be Brave” in every extent of the word, from truly pursuing her writing to giving herself another chance at true love.

Technically Rafael is still the second choice. Even if Michael got his memories back, he isnt the same person he was. If Michael hadnt changed, jane would have chosen him. It didn't take ruining Michael for Jafael to happen. I believe they killed Michael to have the classic "telenovela twist," where a character dies then returns from the dead with amnesia. I also believe it was out of the blue and that Jane and Michael would have been better together given the circumstances before Michael's death, but I understand why the writers went with that

It is just ruining the show for me. It is the worst because I won't be able to rewatch it without knowing how they completely ruined my favorite part of the story. That's exactly how I feel! I think more than anything I'm so angry with the powers that be for ruining the show! I could pretend that it didn't end the way it did but the way they screwed up the characters and direction of the show tainted everything. I refused to buy what they were selling and didn't watch the last 1/2 of the last season. They could never force me to accept a world where Jane and Michael don't choose each other.
I stopped watching after 5x02 when i realized they truly ruined them. And this video just shows to me they’re still perfect for each other. The parallels were amazing. Thanks for sharing!

Jane and Micheal have always been my favorite couple, they show love and passion. They show the real raw passion in a relationship and the happiness. When Micheal died, that showed the sad and upsetting feeling. Micheal and Jane were the same but different at the same time. One thing extremely similar is that they both never walked away from something they loved and never gave up on it. Jane and Rafael showed differences and fights between couples, they fought a lot but they always knew how to sort those fights out and they showed how even though there is a fight, the love will still be there. They’re so different from each other and that’s how they attract so well. I always believed that Jane had two soulmates which would be Micheal and Rafael.
Their love story was so beautiful but it didnt last. I knew this was coming but I kept denying it. That little hope i had kept me going. That they were gonna be endgame. Live a happy life have children but its Jane The Virgin it isn’t that easy. I knew something was gonna break them apart. Im happy atleast I got to see them get married. But it had to come. If he would have gone to another cafe oh how different this would have been. They belong together and I will never stop believing that. This is her true love. And how much I would have wished they were endgame. I wonder how she could just throw away years of pain and happiness. All he wished is for her to be happy she is and he is but why am I not? They said Michael would love Jane until his last dying breath. He isn’t dead yet so? 4 years away from her. The kiss they had in season 5 had given me so much hope every episode that went on i didnt see Michael i kept wondering when is he gonna come back he cant just leave like that? When they met again for the papers he had to sign I felt so hopeful but I didnt know that. It was gonna be the last time they possibly see each other. It made no sense honestly. Her choice to go back to rafael while she was in montana came out nowhere imo. She was having all these visions of her and michael being happy together with mateo and successfully coparenting with rafael while Rafael was still bitter about it. You could tell she loved michael there but was feeling guilted into going back to Rafael and then she says "it's not guilt, its love" like what?? 😂

It’s been clear since season 1 that Rafael and Jane would be endgame. The narrator has been alluding to that since the first episode of the show. But since it’s a telenovela, the main love story reconciles only at the end. Every twist happening in the middle of the story serves as plot device to keep the main protagonists as far as possible until the end. Jane choosing Michael over Rafael in season 2 WAS a plot device. That’s why the story ends with her having to choose again and this time she chooses Rafael. To prove that he has always been plan A. In one of Jane’s imaginations, Rafael says a line that sums it all pretty well “I might be a flawed hero, but I am yours”. Even though Michael seemed to be “perfect” for Jane, he just wasn’t the hero of her story. Rafael was.
I kinda wish he stayed dead. I liked him, but it makes the love triangle more complicated. It should of just been her choosing him, then she moves on with Rafael when she gets over loosing him.
