- In my last episode of disability news • ♿️Primark's NEW adapti... I said I would keep you updated as to what Primarks response would be to my email. After I wrote to Primark regarding their adaptive underwear launch, I had a response, but this is what worries me about it....How do you feel about their response?

I had the exact same email from primark. So we see what happens. Thanks again for a brilliant video, I so want some thoses products from FFORA but the colour I want not in stock, I finally getting a nhs wheelchair the quickie argon 2, just need FFORA to restock there products I wanted the whole set with the active bag, so still waiting 😂
I think its a very half hearted email and very generic, i feel very disappointed in their response. Also THE BBC podcast cant wait to listen too!

I still think the inability to buy it online/have it delivered is ridiculous in this day and age, esp when you're making it for disabled people. shame on primark
I think it's valid and sensible for a brand not to over-order stock on a new line, but the point that the limited availability wasn't better advertised is also very valid, and I find it odd that they aren't shipping between stores to allow click-and-collect at your actual nearest location.
Totally. I agree with all of this. So weird for primark. I do wonder if we are not getting the whole story somewhere along the line.. 🤔
Even though I have no use for female products, I would like to see companies do more for males also.

I am glad. that something is being done for the women. but I agree I would like to see companies do more for men also.
There are similar issues for fat female clothing and big & tall men's clothing. Stores that offer a wider range of sizes don't order enough to stock in stores & they can only be bought online which automatically makes them more expensive due to shipping fees to receive & shipping fees to return.
Stores say that they don't order enough to stock in store because there's not enough demand for non-standard sizes...but the plus and tall sizes sell out within minutes or days online...which means there is a very high demand and they ought to order much much more.
Also, adaptive clothing companies often completely neglect plus and tall sizes...only creating clothing for "standard size" bodies. For the most part, larger and taller people who benefit from adaptive clothing designs have zero options.
This right here!! They do it once to make them seem "inclusive", it sells out, and they never release it again. 😢
Short people have similar issues, but at least I can adjust some things and usually have to do adjustments
It would be more sensible to have the option to either buy it online to be delivered to your home or have the store to do a stock transfer of the item to your local store if its not available locally for you.

It seems like they should have launched it as a trial at selected stores (or even just done a soft launch), with a way of indicating demand at other branches and also for other products such as a short survey available online and in store.
Congratulations Gem on being on the BBC and having your clothing line for ones with disabilities like yourself and hope it would get available all over as you want and also you look good in that burgundy sweater you are wearing.
It should be in all stores!!! That would be a good business decision!!!

Maybe they should do like a mobile booth for their adaptive clothing. Like they will be be in store X for 2 weeks, then store Y the next 2 weeks, etc. So people that need to see the physical items can check the dates for their nearest store and plan ahead to go there at the proper time. But at least they should ship from store to store or a store should be able to order the items you want to see from the warehouse or something.

I understand that shops keep their floorspace for the fashion items, but click and collect is not an option for many people, like in your situation, or the hassle of returning items if they do not suit. It would be nice to touch and try the item in store.

Thank you so much for being willing to show low-spoons-Gem. I know you've mentioned it in previous videos, but I think you've done a wonderful thing in showing the world yourself when you aren't at your best and brightest. It's hard for non-spoonies to understand, especially if they never see that side of our lives.
That was the quickest phone interview. Over and done with in a few seconds. Now, back to our commercial..... Here in the States, though I assume it's the same in the UK, stores are disappearing and there is more activity online. The days of the stores, big and small, are basically through, I think. For disabled persons shipping online is the answer, though if you don't try something, it can be difficult.
Thanks Gem for all your efforts and also for showing your 'no spoons' day, too. I had one today and discovered you, so it was not so bad! I'm an ocasional wheelchair user with degenerative issues due to a TBI( Traumatic Brain Injury), which primarily affects my mobility,so have great empathy with much of your comment regarding peoples 'attitudes'! Keep up the good work, I love what you're doing- we all need to SPEAK UP!

I dont understand why you cant click and collect to all stores surely they all come ultimately from a central warehouse? Then they would have a true understanding of customer demand? Thanks for being our voice as always Gem :)
I totally agree with you Gem when you said that Primark might not put out in more stores their adaptive underwear or expand their adaptive range as they think it’s not selling well, but the reason like you said behind that is because they’ve not made it accessible enough to buy by only putting out to purchase or collect from selected stores. It’s like in the design stage they did all this research and collaboration with disabled people but they didn’t expand that to how people are going to be able to purchase the products.
I can feel your annoyance on adaptive clothing not being available gem. Although I’m not physically disabled I’m quite short and need petite clothing. Especially in things like trousers and long sleeve tops. Annoyingly most most stores that sell clothing do not have a petite range and of those that do most do not have their petite range in store. Most thankfully can click and collect but not all & sometimes the correct sizes aren’t even in stock. Lastly it really annoys me that even with petite not all ranges actually fit petite people E.g. Iv tried on petite long dresses that trail on the floor. Also M&S a few years ago renamed their petite range “short” to make it more available yet when I tent in the other week to buy some new trousers the short trousers we’re 2 inches too long. I spoke to a staff member and they told me several people had been complaining that the short trousers aren’t actually short. What is the point in having adaptive clothing of it isn’t suitable for the buyers?!
I've found that too. I'm under 5' and nowhere does clothing that actually fits. If you're very short, it's automatically assumed that you're also very skinny. I'm not. I never have been, it's not my body type.
Even when there is a petite range there, it's almost exclusively the boring crap stuff that no one wants. Why are there no fun, youthful styles available in petite ranges? It doesn't make any sense at all.
@@katfoster845 totally agree. Or if there are funky designs they are not at all modest. I don’t want to wear cropped tops and hoodies & I don’t want revealing clothing. But I would like some pretty designers instead of plain colours. Thankfully I can budget for say saving up and buying a ted baker mini dress that is on sale which isn’t actually mini but knee length for a taller person or slightly below the knee for a petite person. But not everyone is lucky enough to be able to afford that. Also when there are fun designs why do they always have to be in that LONG dresses and the LONG dresses don’t actually fit a person under 5”. Why can’t the fun designs also be on short dresses? I think more needs to be done for clothing for disabled AND petite people.
I also love my FFORA bag and cup holder/tumbler too!
I've just had a look at their website, since I remembered hearing that my local store *does* offer click & collect (they appear to be concentrated in the north west - there are 7 stores in a 20 mile radius, and all have c&c). I'm surprised no one has raised the issue of two items, side by side, same price. Period knickers, £10. The adaptive ones, and a 3 pack of standard ones. So, not only are people struggling to get them, but we're being "taxed" for needing them too!

So i just checked out the range online and am interested in the wireless bralette, i live in Birmingham and luckily it shows that there are some in stock HOWEVER it is the ONLY store to have any in stock all store nearby including Nottingham 46.2miles north and Leicester 34.5miles north and Hereford 44.52 miles south and Northampton 45.31 miles south have zero stock AND ALL STORES including Birmingham high st THE LARGEST IN THE UK are not participating in the click and collec trial!!! That is a massive area covering literally the entirety of the Midlands! Zero click and collect!
Primark has 191 uk stores, of which 56 are trialling click and collect, the majority are in and around London. FFS disabled people live everywhere in the U.K. Primark! Chester and Sheffield seem to be my "closest" click and collect stores to BIRMINGHAM and they have 2 Primark locations in each place and BOTH stores are participating in the click and collect trial.

I ordered 2 of the crop top type bras, click and collect …… really comfortable around the body, straps are comfortable, lovely and stretchy, interesting clip fastening which works well, great price for the quality but ….. they are flat at the front ….. I’m torn between making a trek to return them or getting my sewing machine out and adapting them.
That was really cool. I’m so happy for you. Thank you for being there for us. I live in the USA. I’ve never heard of that store. I will say the underwear idea sounds great. It would be nice if they had that here. I’m looking forward to a review when you finally get your hands on one.
It would be great if Primark US could carry it, it won't even let me purchase it online internationally! There's a huge need for it over here, with their prices they'd have so many loyal customers.

I feel like the answer was copy pasta kinda answer! I think they should have said when the new line came out, hey it only going to be available in certain stores…
Even in London I had to order Click and Collect but at least it was to my local store and I have to say I am pleasantly surprised by the bra I ordered, the clasp is still a bit fiddly but much easier than a regular bra and was pleased with the fit despite being small, medium, large etc and not bra sizes

That is so annoying. I am not disabled and I am angry for you. Like others have said to not make it available to be shipped is the dumbest idea ever. It seems they are just pandering and they can say see we tried but no one bought it 🙄

I think the lack of clear communication about everything was really a big issue that can’t just be waved away I get not having a huge drop immediately but they could have had a small selection at every store or been more clear

I think Primark is very slow off the mark! They're missing a huge market opportunity..& why don't they try offering a delivery service? They're falling behind the times it seems!
How can they test it out if people can't access the product?
So apparantly they don't realise there are disabled people in every city!! When they launch a new clothing range, it's in all stores. They launch this underwear for click and collect only which not everyone can easily access, what if you want to have a look at the item first. Seems silly to me!! The bra would really help me, I'm going to order for click and collect, I'll let you know how it goes!!xx

I can receive my primark wear from Watford but of course click and collect.
I don’t understand why they can’t make it available for click and collect in all stores…. I mean. They are going to stock all the stores from their warehouse anyway, and I’m sure the restock happens on a very regular basis… Or shipping between stores etc. I’m sure there’s already some sort of mechanism in place for that, for their other click and collect items. So why not these adaptive underwear?

Thank you for all you do for disability people you are doing amazing for us I don’t shop in primark as they don’t have my size as after I ended up in a wheelchair and chronic pain I have put stones on I always so am like 3/4xl and primark don’t even go to that size I do fit in their leggings and pjs but I also find it hard to get around sometimes as my wheelchair is for a plus size lady
I hate having to buy my clothes from your evens simple be which cost so so much sorry rant over with again thank you I appreciate all that you do 💜

I am sorry that the BBC dragged you to London to make a podcast, especially as they obviously managed to also call you later. I hope they at least paid for the petrol, if not for your or his time.
I wonder if this is just the BBC thoughtlessly prioritizing the comfort and ease of their not-yet-disabled / neurotypical / socially mainstream hosts? Face-to-face is definitely not the most comfortable interview experience for everyone, especially not for many of us who need to rest for a day or a week after a visit that includes substantial travel and/or substantial face-to-face communication.
If they really wanted to be inclusive and felt it was important to meet you in person, they could have sent a journalist and a tech van to you. It's not like you live in the Outer Hebrides (besides, the BBC manages to make content there, too).
Based on this I am not impressed by the "allyship" of the BBC. Yet all the more impressed by you & your hubs! Thank you both for your service to our community ❤

Gem I think you have really caught Primark out, but well done for getting it on Jeremy Vine show, I have just bought a new cup holder for when we visit Florida later this year! It’s really good I will be able to roll around the USA and have a soda close by 👨🏻🦽🇺🇸
