I got my first Samoyed 37 years ago and at that time everyone said they were hard to train, stubborn, etc, etc. but with all the UA-cams out there I hope this perception has changed. Sammy's just want to know what's in it for them. Treats, of course, so thanks for your happy Sammies. I have one concern about your fence. All of my girls like to chase and bark at squrriles too and jump against the corner of the fence. In the corner of my fence, the corner started coming apart and I was afraid that they would get their paw or leg caught in the corner and really hurt themselves. Please attatch another board so there is no gap in the corner just to prevent any injuries. Thanks. Happy training and stay safe!

My samoyed goes crazy for squirrels too XD ... And yeah... my house is full of white fur as well. I don't remember what it is to have dark clothes I don't have to check for fur before putting it on. But I wouldn't change my Vince for anything :)
Sammies are wonderful dogs. Very easy to train. The reason for the howl is because it is their natural reaction. It reacts like an echo for this breed. They hear their own voice. Other breeds can be similar.
I taught my dog how to bark/speak on command and he loves it he gets so excited because he doesn't know how to bark so it's kinda a ruff/Grawl/bark so when u said bark he did it and it scared me so bad for a second btw he's Bernese mountain dog
At what age did your samoyeds start howling? I have a 7 month old male samoyed that can speak (bark on command), but he doesn't howl. A month back I heard him howl a few times but he has't done it much since. So it's hard to teach him to do it when he never does it. I guess I'm just wondering if the howl/aroo is something he'll learn later?
Might be to late now but when you hear him howl encourage him! He will start to associate making that sound with being rewarded. Then you can begin getting him to do it on command. That's how I taught my sammy to do it.. problem is, now she wont stop lol.

My dog barks a fair bit when we prepare food and I don't want to be encouraging it, since once he learns a trick for treats he'll do it randomly expecting a treat, so he'll sit in front of you or try give you his paw, I think he might just start barking at me
tibchy144 you don't Need to move to sibiria to own a samoyed and for him to be happy, also samoyeds are no herding dogs, they were. Today they are normal Family dogs, they just Need more movement, what the heck?

JAPANESE SPITZES!! They look more foxy than these wolfy Samoyed and they're absolutely beautiful, white coated fluffy wolf/fox looking dogs. They're not too big too :) maybe about the size of a corgi or a bit bigger, but smaller than a labrador. Somewhere in between. They shed less imo, but you have to groom them of course. Good for people living in apartments. Also, they're very loving, patient and smart.

Tinkerbells "good morning" is amazing. My biggets problem is stopping mY Xiomara barking! it is easy to get her to howl. I jsut go out without her. Good morningi is jbeing all over me when I get up in the morning,
Takami Late reply, but my dogs (and a lot of dogs) can be weaned from treats as part of their training, but you may still have to use some straightforward praise/reinforcement at first when you lose the treats Funny enough, that's when the training starts to get a little easier, not just because they've built a foundation for their training, but because research shows they actually prefer praise and reinforcement to treats once they begin maturing

Do your girls howl when they greet you in the morning? My 14 week old Sammy started "wooing" a couple of weeks ago when he gets up and sees me for the first time. He kind of yawns and then does a long "woo" with his ears right back. It's so cute, but all my other friends with Sammy's said theirs don't... I'm sure there's others out there :D
xen hills my Samoyed wakes me up every morning with a lot of woo's 😊 it's his way of saying "Mum I need to pee and want attention wake up" and he won't stop until I get up. It can be frustrating but I wouldn't change it for the world.
