    Rarely does a song. Any song. Send chills up my spine like this song does. I'm 70 years old. It sent chills up my spine when I first heard it on the radio and still does this to this day. Little Anthony isn't so little. I can't imagine anyone else singing this song so that it almost permeates out of his pores. If I witnessed him singing this to his girl then I'd fall to my knees and cry like a baby. Who says there's no power in music? Have you ever asked (begged) a girl to stay and she didn't? Case closed. With a life time of regret.

    Had the very great privilege of meeting Little Anthony backstage in mid 70's. He had beautiful lime green tux trimmed in yellow. I addressed him as " little Anthony" ...he said " oh, you don't have to call me little honey, you can just call me Anthony". We visited and it was such a big treat. He was so humble and personable. He signed my autograph book ( and he didn't usually give autographs because he didn't leave stage to do so. ) great time in my life.

    • @johnlawler2455
      @johnlawler2455 6 місяців тому +1

      @@Stand663 This is live singing, but it could be the backing track (note the backup singers have no mic). Amazingly, the backing track or orchestra starts to slow in the first bar, then speeds up and Little Anthony doesn't miss a bit. The second line also increases it's pace and is in a different key (on purpose) in the record and the stage recording. Little Anthony again is unfazed. Absolutely amazing. Very close to the record in style, but there are small nuances that are different. I think this performance is even better than the record.

    He sings this song with such powerful emotion you can feel it, touch it, and you recognize the pain of losing a lover, you have felt it in your own heart. Here is Little Anthony expressing that pain more eloquently than any poet or any other artist can. It is a beautiful and exquisitely poignant song that pierces my heart each time I hear it and it does so because of the honesty and artistry in Little Anthony's soulful, powerful, immortal voice.

    The song was given to Little Anthony and the Imperials by songwriter Teddy Randazzo, according to a memorable documentary about Little Anthony available on UA-cam. The reason the lyrics ring home is because Teddy was going through a divorce when he wrote the song. Little Anthony said it was his job to interpret the emotions of Randazzo. It explains the bitterness and hurt of some of the lyrics in my opinion.

      The ultimate beauty and emotionally ever captured in Any music ever. The haunting depth of love the song is engulfed by Little Anthony is once in a lifetime. With that command, genius, and helium voice brought forth which is unmistakable, irreplaceable and impeccable on every artistic level. Evoking "that feeling" of young unbearable love if 💔 broken can change you forever. To have it ALL - and Charisma is what makes you fall in love w/ them. My Father was a World Class classical concert pianist. I trained as well. I learned to read. Write, play piano 3 years old on-- The only other thing my Father who was quiet, refined, non jugemental... did say: And there will NEVER EVER BE ANYONE WITH a voice like KAREN CARPENTER AGAIN. SOCRATES: QUOTE: " ALL I KNOW IS ONE THING AND THAT IS I KNOW NOTHING". MY FATHER felt as humble. He had humor, he said but Karen is All I know about.! Right ON DAD!!

    Met Anthony at a golf course I was working at in 2015. Didn't know he was playing in the celeb tournament and went to grab his cart at the end of the round and saw the name tag....Instantly starting shaking and got super star struck. Manged to somehow blurt out "Mr Anthony im a huge fan!" He said, " Thanks baby I got to get going I've got a concert later at an Indian casino in San Diego. Got his autograph. Then snuck in to listen to him give a speech for pat Boone in the banquet room. What an experience

    One of the greatest groups, with some of the best songs ever! I had the privilege of seeing & hearing them in a small club in 1968. They have left us a beautiful, lasting and priceless legacy.
