Having owned 80s and a 100, the 100 is a more refined driving experience for the average person. Roomier cabin, drives better with IFS, plus the V8 which is not a powerhouse by any means but much better than the 1FZ straight six. The 2UZ also doesn’t eat head gaskets which is a plus. Hit the nail on the head about the maintenance costs. They are reliable vehicles but at the end of the day they are 20-25 years old and will nickel and dime you. DIY when possible and shop around to get the best price on OEM parts.

Wife just got a 2015 200 series. After driving it a bunch i really want to get myself a 100 series. Will admit gas milage is poor but the v8 power is pretty great compared to our 4runner we traded in
I have a 07 v8 4runner and it’s not fast but it zips around a lot faster than my friends 100 series. I have bigger tires 34 inch he has 33. I have always wondered if it is the weight difference of vehicles or the revamped 4.7 engine or the fact that I take good care of my engine and his is tired.
I would give up my GT3 to be able to have a brand new 100 series. They are old now and good examples are very hard to come by. I wish I had a time machine and would’ve bought a new one.
Cool. I have an 04. The only real problem with that year (and maybe the 03) was a bad circuit in the MFD, and you can’t swap head units as the AC and stuff is tied in. I bought mine in 07. It was either that or an L322. Almost 292K on it now. I bought a 200 series to replace it, but sold that a few months later. Just preferred the 100 series. Now..looking at L322s and L405s again. But if I could find a cherry 06 or 06 LC, I might do that. There was a power bump in later models. Sat in a L322 yesterday. Super nice. Rear seats a bit cramped and upright. Think I commented this the other day. Oops. I digress. 100 series has never left me stranded. Well, a coolant hose clamp failed at 285K at work in the parking lot. So, not exactly stranded. Otherwise, routine stuff.

Take off. Power button - it reduces MPG. It’s for sports type driving conditions. You should get around 18 MPG at 70 mph

I’m sure for the first 100k of both rigs lives the LC would have the upper hand. The next 100k? Probably not as close.
Those dash hoard lights….suspect it’s catalytic sensors on exhaust - (post catalytic)

Americans really missed out on the legendary 4.2L diesel engine - much more economic and even more reliable than the V8.

I have the 4,2, it's got 250k miles on it and drives like new. Im in scotland, so rust is the only issue!
