Cortez the Killer Lyrics
He came dancing across the water
With his galleons and guns
Looking for the new world
And the palace in the sun
On the shore lay Montezuma
With his coca leaves and pearls
In his halls, he often wandered
With the secrets of the world
And his subjects gathered 'round him
Like the leaves around a tree
In their clothes of many colors
For the angry gods to see
And the women all were beautiful
And the men stood straight and strong
They offered life in sacrifice
So that others could go on
Hate was just a legend
And war was never known
The people worked together
And they lifted many stones
And they carried them to the flat lands
But they died along the way
And they build up with their bare hands
What we still can't do today
And I know she's living there
And she loves me to this day
I still can't remember when
Or how I lost my way
He came dancing across the water
Cortez, Cortez
What a killer

This song begs for your own interpretation it's a beautiful song God Bless Neil Young
Yes, it's definitely our own take on the song. Some would prefer if we were more true to the original and I get that, but we always put our own 'stink' on cover tunes :)
fantastic🤘

I'm 60 years old and I know when somebody can play rock and roll thank you guys can play I've seen everybody all the rock bands so when I first watched your video I was kind of a little ticked off because it was a Neil Young video but then I watched you and I really like your version excellent long live rock and roll
I'm not a subscriber but I'm going to let me know if you guys are in New York state anytime I would love to come see you play
Thanks, Vinny. We are all in our late 50's or early 60's. We are pretty stoked to be playing rock and roll at our age😁

Thank you! Cheers!
Come to the East Coast...great weekend in NYC..
Sweet
Edit - The music is tight, but honestly I left it play through and saved because the vocals are the best I’ve heard do this song… Tops Dave M for me .. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great guitar playing!! Hats off to you all.
Cool cover version from you guys
Thank you!
Pura sangre la voz parecida a la de Neil. Bravoooooo

Thank you thank you thank you! We'd love to visit Toronto someday!
love this! very true to the original, which is such a classic
Oustanding.!!!
I've seen the porter Satriani version the Dave Matthews version and although the porter version is very unique I think the double wide Kings overall is the best version
thx for the harp
Bravissimi!!!! 👍🇮🇹
Check your history out. There was always hate and war, that's how the Aztec became so powerful. The song sounds good though, I've listened to it for years
True that!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥✌🏼
Verrrrryyyy niiiiiccee !!
Damned good redition.
Dave Mathews’s and Warren Hanes cover of this is very similar. Both good.
I would love to see them play Turn to Stone by the Eagles
Good suggestion. We have been talking about doing Turn To Stone and also Rocky Mountain Way. We live in Santa Barbara, California and Joe Walsh has a place here.
Diggin"n it
Sincèrement, je ne connais pas l'histoire de Cortez, mais votre version est vraiment top, j'aime bien celle de Grace Potter et Joe Satriani, mais la vôtre et super y compris votre second mouvement.
Merci .
Woooooohhh
I'm sure Neil enjoyed this cover
good version
I liked the part from 00:01 to 9:18 the best.
Subscribe it's worth it these are the bands we gotta support and it's not like they're a charity case they got skills
and they build up with their bare hands what we still cant do today
Jesus man!
Just amazing, up with the original and dare i say even better in some ways.
I agree, Davy knowles also did a killer cover of this one...these guys are good
If you love this song like i do check out Grace Potter and Joe Satriani its amazing
I've seen Grace's video over 100 times
I can't choose between this and Grace and Joe's version...superb.
@@stevenamos8668 Dave Matthews and Warren Haynes do an awesome version
The Grace Potter version of this is really amazing I don't know how many time I've watched it but I'm always blown away by it
This adds another great version to the Cortez pantheon. The ultimate E minor. jam.Love it now and forever.
Are y’all in cahoots with cottonmouth kings?
Holly shit
❤❤❤
Wow😄
If you like this one check out Warren Haynes and Dave Matthews. Out of this worl

We just did a CCR show and we've got some new videos about to come out from that.
And I'm not going to lie to you I've watched this video at least 500 times
@@vinnyone1585 Thank you. We probably have too 😎
If Neil Young had studied history the song could be named after Custer the killer or any Anglo-Saxon exterminator
Cortez is appropriate enough.
They were all killers.
What shocked me about this song is the low watch count. Not discovered by many I think.
Thank you for liking it! Yes, we haven't really promoted it in any way -- it just kind of got discovered organically. It was a magical moment in our Neil Young show.
🎼Bassist is killer, good vocals & excellent Musicianship, but you can't really replace that , "Young
Grunge."🎵🎸
Thank you. Agreed. So why try? Why not make it our own?
check out the version with Joe Satriani.. Steve Kimock..Grace Potter..etc
Yep, that is a good one too!
My only criticism is the lead guitar being a telecaster . Gotta be a les Paul , but it’s a good job .👍
Interesting. I guess to be more like Neil, that would be true! But the tone is pretty epic on that Telecaster!
Who is the drummer?
Jan from Denmark
Hi Jan. Our drummer is Charlie C. He's been with us since the beginning. Thanks for watching!
You can hear Dave Matthews Band together with Warren Haynes.
Great song, but Young did romanticize a brutal killer in Montezuma who may have been worse than Cortez.
Cela reste une pâle copie 😢
Sorry you feel that way. Most folks seem to like it :)
The drummer keeps trying the "dramatic pause" and comes back in behind. Just sayin.
Is that a bad thing?
Cokiyi lan
Who did this first and who wrote it?
Neil Young
Neil. The who;e album "Zuma" is gamechanging.
Yes, it was Neil. But one pleasure of life is that you can cover every song you like.
Love Neil and love this killer version.
Beloved Neil Young
I think the crowd should have been into the music and not interpersonal conversations with each other
Too clean
Hmmm. Maybe. It's one interpretation. Next time I'm going to use Double Drop D tuning and that would muddy it up a bit more.
I prefer an another version...
Let us know which one you like.
AMAZING
I’m curious…which version?
This nails it pretty close to the original…BWDIK?
