I have had my Ritma with the same finish. The popping sound when uncapping the pen is a joy. The nibs works very well, having an EF and Omniflex. Glad you are enjoying the pen. Like you, I was surprised at the build quality and performance. The balance of the pen is great so the weight of the pen is not a problem and feels great in the hand It is probably going to be a keeper for me.

G'day, Doodlemate. Your shows are like tutorials in manufacturing engineering--I love 'em. Can't say I'd ever want such a heavy pen; a wheel weight in my quill would do the job just as well. Thanks and cheers from 'Terror Australia'.
Here are two tips for preventing clogging with shimmering inks: let out a couple more drops of ink than you usually would when you're filling the pen, then push the excess air out as you hold it nib-up(keep the piston head positioned a couple turns forward after expelling the air). Then you can just use the piston to suck the ink out of the feed whenever it gets clogged, flood the feed with fresh ink, suck it out, flood it, etcetera. That loosens the glitter 99% of the time and things will flow again until you need to repeat the process. It also helps a lot to put a ball bearing(Platinum cartridges are sealed with good ones, you can reuse those) in your converter and just invert the pen every couple sentences. Otherwise all the glitter settles at the feed intake, while the ink itself stays behind and never makes it to the feed.
Glad you liked it after giving the brand another shot. I’m delighted to hear they are listening to customer feedback and making changes to improve. I like the finish with the carbon fiber pattern.
Yes they are a very nice pen with that pop off magnetic cap. The stub and Omniflex nibs are firm favourites. The only problem I have is with the converters on a couple working their way loose when filled with ink. I like a pen with heft.
I stopped buying Monteverde pens when I realized their pens were identical with Chinese pens that cost a fifth of the M asking. Four years ago? Is this pen really made in the USA, or just the cap? Monteverde inks, however are great.
I have the Monteverde Regatta Stub 1.1 nib in the beautiful white mother of Pearl and gunmetal gray. It’s simply a gorgeous pen and I love the magnetic cap. Lovely ink for Christmas cards and grocery lists ❤
I have been “burned” by Yafa pens several times, both Conklin and Monteverde. The pen bodies were made from beautiful resins or acrylics, but the feeds and nibs were horrible. It’s going to take a hell of a lot of improvement before I buy another. You,however did an excellent and informative job reviewing the improvements in this model. Thanks. 👍👍👍
I have a Pocket/Neck Ritma and I love it. It came with 2 threaded finials: one has an attached lanyard so the pen can be worn as a necklace, and the other is plain so that it can be used as a pocket pen. As far as I can tell, it only came in the olive special edition color, which is disappointing because I'd like to have more colors and nib sizes. Mine came with a cute little omniflex nib that is slightly stubby and fun to write with.
I have the EF nib turqoise version....the section will wear a little at the nib end, small scratches from popping out the cap....the pen is overall nice and writes well, no problems with the ink drying out like 2 weeks....nice magnetic fidget and pop sound especially in a quiet meeting....
Thanks for a great review. I'm sold. I'll get one of these pens, but with an Omniflex nib. I used to enjoy some Spencerian handwriting years ago. Your videos are awesome. Take care.
The magnet on my Ritma became very weak. A quick call to Yafa (they had not heard of this issue before) resulted in a new pen on the way. Good job Yafa. I also really like my Monteverde Prima. Also, an informative review. Thanks for the video.
I just picked this up in their new Walnut finish but I ordered an Omniflex and am personally regretting that decision. It writes okay but I think I would have preferred just a regular fine nib. I will be swapping it out with a spare JoWo fine nib I have and see how it does.
My turquoise version had a bad problem with mold. Not sure if it was because of the ink(not Monteverde). Using bleach and alcohol did not make the goo go away. Other people who have other Ritmas that I know have not had this issue. I just got a bad one. I'm not a fan of the huge, slick steel section, but the nib still writes like a dream in another pen.
If it's like the other monteverde pens you can take the nib and feed out of the section - I soak mine in like 1:9 ammonia to water (unscented! UNSCENTED!) and run it in a sonic cleaner for three minutes (I have a very small cheap one I got on Amazon for maybe twenty bucks) and that has kept my pens mold free. I did recently throw away a moldy monteverde ink, but another thing I do is only fill with a syringe - so for the converter pens I have that works really well, but for pens I have to fill through the section I clean them before submerging them in the inkwell and I use a smaller jar so I don't contaminate the bigger ink bottle. It's all a little extra work but it's kept me mostly mold free. I hope it helps.
@@ohzir the feed didn't come out of the section. Only the nib. I cleaned it real well hit it with more bleach and alcohol(stronger strength than with the feed and section) and it works great in another pen. I tossed the other Ritma pieces.
Thanks, DB! I have one and like it a lot. At the sale price I picked mine up at, it's one of the best value per dollar pens I have. I often see Monteverde and Conklin on sale and wonder if they're struggling to overcome their qc issues. I haven't bothered with Conklin at all for that reason.
I have had a Ritma for about a year. Mine is a excellent writer. The problem I have had is that multiple capping and uncapping, will cause mine to start to pull ink out of the nib and it ends up all over my hands. I work in a office and capping and uncapping a pen fairly quickly happens often. This pen always makes a mess for me. If it’s just riding in my pocket and used infrequently, it’s fine though. Thanks for the video and keep up the good work.
I was wondering about that. Do you cap with nib pointing up or down? Mayne nib up cap with reduce the occurrence. So far haven't seen it happen but I could see it from frequent usage.
@@Doodlebud I thought it would make a difference also but it doesn’t. Seems to pull a vacuum as the cap is being removed. Slowly opening reduces the amount of ink being pulled, but it will still do it. I really like the way it feels and writes, so if I know I will be using it continuously, or infrequently, I grab it.
I bought a Ritma from Goulet earlier this year, February I believe. I like its heft, although the magnetic cap make me nervous to take it in the field. Also from Goulet I bought several Innova Anniversary Editions because I kept breaking them. The Finials were made of a glass-like substance which shattered on one, sheared off on another. The third one has been kept at home and has lasted for a good while now. These are also Carbon Fiber Barrels which look nice despite the fragile nature of the end Finials of the pens. I thought that Monteverde could send me just the end Finial of the pen which unscrews from the Carbon Fiber Barrel, but apparently that was not an option, so I have two Innovas which have relegated to the parts drawer.
I didn’t even realize that Conklin and Monteverde were both made by Yafa. Not sure what the dealio is, but I have two Monteverde pens that I really like and two Conklin pens that suck eggs. I’m seeing some really low prices on Ritmas from Monteverde USA and I’m not sure if they’re any different, but I think I’ll pick up one and see.
Glad yours worked out! I bought my Ritma for a self-present on my birthday in 2020 and it's a steaming pile. I had to buy a black silicone o-ring to keep the section from constantly unscrewing form the section, the converter won't stay on the feed, the feed is dry and the nib is scratchy. The free Rose Noir ink I got with it was horrible as well.
Wow that sounds pretty terrible. A Conklin pen I got years ago was like that. I do agree with you on the Rose Noir ink. I got some a while back & it was disappointing. Just too washed out for my liking. But my daughter uses it for art work now so that's ok.
Great video looks like a lovely pen. Perhaps JoWo make the nibs? If so I have a Leonardo with the JoWo Omniflex nib. Bouncy rather than true flex even semi. But a lovely writer the 1.1 stub also looks good. I had 2 Conklin pens a while ago and they were 2 of the worst pens I have ever had couldn’t get on with them. Didn’t work properly or at all. That said if I had funds to fritter away I’d go for one of these with the Omniflex nib. Thank you Doodle Bud catch you next time. D 😊
Good day. I bought the black Ritma with M nib from Blesket a few weeks ago. I love it BUT... Have you had any issues with the section not staying screwed into the barrel tightly?
@@Doodlebud , yes, it seems to happy pretty often with mine. But other than that, I love this pen. Salome was the one who actually recommended it to me and told me she sent you one to try
@@Doodlebud , I'm a trucker so my pens are in the rig most of the week. Maybe the vibration and movement of the truck causes the problem? But I haven't noticed this with any of my other FPs.
I enjoy my Monteverde Ritma that I have been using for a little over a year now, but my problem with it was that in the inside of the section it was totally rusted out in a few months. I use the pen just I would for my other cartidge/converter style pens. Yafa did replace it for me and some of the rust was on the nib and feed holder too, so they ended up sending me a whole new nib and feed with the holder (I didn't even ask them for that, just for the section, so it was very much appreciated that they did that for me). I have had the replacement section for months now, no rust yet on the inside of the new section. I have other Monteverde metal pens that are not the Ritma that have not rusted at all yet, but I do worry this will happen again with my Ritma. The pen is in my daily rotation, so I will be keeping an eye to see if it rusts again.
Sounds like it had a bad coating job on the internal bore. The extra threads can sometimes cause an issue with the coating sticking to it if the surface wasn't fully prepared (cleaned) prior to coating. All the more reason for them to have a smooth bore inside the section instead of extra threads. Your new section should be good as long as it was coated properly. Good to hear they replaced it. Really enjoying the pen 😁
@@Doodlebud thank you very much for explaining that, I appreciate it 😊. This makes me a lot more hopefully that I won't see rust this time around. I hope the coating on this one holds up!

Like you, I've been leery of anything Yafa for some time. Wasn't until the upgrade to Jowo nibs they seem to have really focused on quality control. Still waiting to hear an unbiased review of a current production Crescent Filler. They fix the slop, I will get more interested. 😉 Clip still hearkens back to the Monteverde questionable connection to Jinhao. Looks suspiciously like one from the 599... I agree about Red Lustre. Was my Christmas ink last year (I alternate with Golden Ivy.) Again, nice to see Yafa stepping up their game.
@@paulherman5822 Yes, I read that too. It made me lose respect for the company. The nib on that Ritma looks awfully similar to the nibs on my Moonman pens too. I am not trying to disparage Yafa brands but I am tired of the hypocrisy in this hobby.
@@jmm95076 Well, the Toledo originally was place of manufacture on a Conklin nib. They moved to Chicago, and nibs reflected this. If Yafa was honest, today they should have "Taiwan." But there's another pricier pen that claims Italian resin and assembly in Miami Florida. Identical "resin" and everything to a Chinese pen that came out several months earlier...
What -- no mango chutney on the grocery list? 😉 Thanks for the detailed review and writing samples. The weight of the pen puts me off (why did they make the pen so heavy??) and the clip does remind me of the one on my Jinhao 599-- sheesh Monteverde. I’ve been burned by Monteverde pens twice. No more. I will never again trust them, no matter if they get a good review. They’ve made terrible pens for years. Their ink is great though.
Monteverde Monza 3 and Regatta Sport. The Monza came with 3 interchangeable nibs - all 3 trash. So bad that I could not tune them. Same issue with the Regatta and a Fine nib. I didn’t expect much out of the Monza, but did expect it to be functional. I gave them another chance with the more expensive Regatta. Another mistake. Both pens were the worst I’ve encountered, and I’ve used a lot of fountain pens over the years, modern & vintage.

@@Doodlebud thank you very much for explaining that, I appreciate it 😊. This makes me a lot more hopefully that I won't see rust this time around. I hope the coating on this one holds up!
You sound like your fellow Canadian and UA-camr named AvE. He too also fights with the camera focusing but with a bit more colorful language.
Gee, at the beginning I thought they both were same person.🤔
@@alfonsomanjarres9727 you know I think it is the same person. There’s too many similarities
LOL, if AvE did even one video on fountain pens it would get more views than I've had on my entire channel. He lives about 4-5 hour drive from me, but guess we have similar backgrounds.
They don't sound anything alike to me 🤣(and his videos are better than AvE's too, imo). Doodlebud is in our pen club and I've talked to him many times.
@@majajamie I rest my case 😄
nice to hear yafa has stepped up their game a bit. only one im really interested in is one of the new crescent fillers so ill get that at some point
Yeah I've seen that one too and have been curious!
Like you, I've been leery of anything Yafa for some time. Wasn't until the upgrade to Jowo nibs they seem to have really focused on quality control. Still waiting to hear an unbiased review of a current production Crescent Filler. They fix the slop, I will get more interested. 😉
Clip still hearkens back to the Monteverde questionable connection to Jinhao. Looks suspiciously like one from the 599...
I agree about Red Lustre. Was my Christmas ink last year (I alternate with Golden Ivy.)
Again, nice to see Yafa stepping up their game.
That it looks like a 599 was also my first thought. Makes me wonder where exactly it is being made.
@@jmm95076 Pretty sure that the Monteverde Monza originally was just a rebadged Jinhao 992.
If Yafa was honest, today they should have "Taiwan."
But there's another pricier pen that claims Italian resin and assembly in Miami Florida. Identical "resin" and everything to a Chinese pen that came out several months earlier...
I had the EXACT same model, and I HATED it with a passion. The pen felt terrible to my hand, the nib was terrible, and it wouldn’t seal the nib
Oh damn
What -- no mango chutney on the grocery list? 😉 Thanks for the detailed review and writing samples. The weight of the pen puts me off (why did they make the pen so heavy??) and the clip does remind me of the one on my Jinhao 599-- sheesh Monteverde. But, of course, the heart of a fountain pen is its nib, so I'm glad those were not disappointing at all!
Still have some in the fridge. Have a few other things we need to pick up LOL 😆
@@Doodlebud Forgot to say that your review prompted me to ink up my Monteverde Impressa. It has a nice nib on it, too!
Fancy! Looks decent for $75 CAD.
Plus the 10% discount ;) The stub really makes the pen fun
It reminds me of the Parker vector but a lot better made.
This pen is significantly larger as well
Least favorite section, my is very slick.
Oh, no! My pen life is simpler when I have brands (like Conklin) I can "write off" (perhaps pun intended) due to past personal bad experiences with them. When I see a + review, I find I have to reconsider! The happiness literature is pretty clear that us folks are actually happier with FEWER choices!
Yeah I've avoided Yafa for sometime. Can't speak for all their new pens but this one I'm pretty happy with.
The exposed carbon edge and the slick looking section is a deal breaker for me.
H E L P! When you went to a pen show (this fall) someone gave you a cheap pen in the shape of your all time fave... and now I can't remember what brand-- might even be your "grail pen." what is it? Recently you showed the cheap version again, but I can't find these ref points now. Just say the brand, model of your fave expensive triangular-type FP, plz! BTW, glad to see MV redeem themselves. My first FP was a tiger-eye Olympia "triangle" type shape. I still love it, but it no longer caps reliably. I have several pens, but interested in YOUR triangular type pen.
The pen is an Omas 360. Lost of versions with materials, but the one that blows my mind is in wild celluloid 🤤
@@Doodlebud Thank YOU! It was driving me crazy trying to search your vids. Wow, so pricey. I remember you liking the Wild one. I like the blue Lucens but O M G. Keep your eye out for a knock of these. and CONGRATS on your fab find / restoration of your MB M. Looks and writes so NICE!
BTW, I still love my Asvine (first saw on one of your vids.) A dab of silicone grease on the nib section solved any issues about coming off or leaking. Gray/blue with Nitro Sheen ink... ahhhh! Thanks for all you do!! 🖋🙏
Hope that list is for no cake!!!
this is good news
Very good news! Surprised how pleased I am with this pen and how much I'm using it
Tampons? Preparation H???? Wondering where you were going with that……
Just standard stuff on our grocery list. I think we all know where tampons and preparation H are going 😆. I like to leave Easter eggs to see how much viewers are watching
@@Doodlebud Same place that Yaffa pens come from.
No cóż bardzo ciekawe pióro chętnie je bym wyprobował. Ps dziekuje za recenzje .😀
You’re a good husband DB…always remember to get the tampons!
I put a little something for myself at the end of the list if you noticed as well 😉😆
Carbon Fiber, designed for those that like a heavy pen…
LOL yeah think its mainly for looks
I’ve been burned by Monteverde pens twice. No more. I will never again trust them, no matter if they get a good review. They’ve made terrible pens for years. Their ink is great though.
How did those pens give you problems? Which models?
Monteverde Monza 3 and Regatta Sport. The Monza came with 3 interchangeable nibs - all 3 trash. So bad that I could not tune them. Same issue with the Regatta and a Fine nib. I didn’t expect much out of the Monza, but did expect it to be functional. I gave them another chance with the more expensive Regatta. Another mistake. Both pens were the worst I’ve encountered, and I’ve used a lot of fountain pens over the years, modern & vintage.
Would be cool to see you over at Odysee, if you'd consider auto-syncing, like other tech-channels, like EEVblog, Scott Manley, etc.
Have no idea what auto-syncing is or Odysee LOL
@@Doodlebud it's a "new tech" youtube competitor, built on block chain, aiming to be youtube anno 2016, (i.e. put independent creators first), that still has dislike button, doesn't unsubscribe people, doesn't remove people's comments, nor creator's videos for wrong-speech. Autosync means they automagically copy all your videos over. Layout and progress is way better than rumble, and users and content better than bitchute (which is an absolute cesspool). Some channels that are doing auto-syching are: Veritasium, 3blue1brown, EEVblog, Brian Keating (physics podcast), Scott Manley (amazing nerd-rants on space and rockets) are there (plus lots of crypto channels, gaming channels, and some political dissidents, e.g. like Canada's JBP and beanie-man Tim Pool). I'd rather subscribe to my favorite channels over there, than here, where I feel like I'm being mistreated. We are many youtuber's who get our subscribers "unsubscribed" without their knowledge. I don't know if this happens to fountain-pen channels, but sure is a thing if touching topics that some consider controversial. I can't post link to documentation, since it will flag this comment but "help" pages have great documentation.
