my first R1 in 2000 was this model and every incarnation since but now just got myself a 7000 mile red and white model again , a keeper this time once I've fully retsored it
Ive owned 2 R1's regret selling my 2000 model, wrote off a 2003 model, took two chicks for a ride both of them were shaking when they got off it, the pillion seat is way too high up but like he said in the video, no need for it and the extra weight on the back when your accelerating keeps the front wheel air more so than normal. Can't believe how powerful the older R-1s were even after owning a 2005 ZX10-R. Even though it had only 150 hp it was the way the power was delivered, the amount of wheelies I pulled passing cars and just general riding and the tank slaps were out of control. Made me smile more than any bike I've ever owned.
First things i did to mine was Fit a factory seat cowl in place of rear seat, passengers ruin the handling. Fit an Ohlins steering damper and ditch to OEM Dunlops D207s, no more tank slappers on bumpy roads. Later came a full Arrow exhaust, Factory Pro velocity stacks (well worth it even on stock bikes) Ohlins rear shock with spring for my weight, and ohlins springs for my weight in the forks. After a few years i put the factory exhaust and EXUP back on, as i slowed down alot and wanted that lovely midrange grunt and flawless carburation the EXUP gives, but kept the Arrow carbon can. Still have it.
